Full Version: How about a RPG based on The Matrix

I've seen many rpg's based on Final fantasy/pokemon/starwars (FF7 is the best) but recently thought while watching The matrix why not make a game based on the movie.

I understand it would take a hell of an effort to create (Tiles, sprites) such a thing but what a game it would be.

you have the choice to join the humans (being set free)
join the machines & help agent smith.

in the passed there has been games based on the matrix but there was never an option (as far as I know) to help the machines.

I think the Matrix MMO did.

Um yes thats very true, you could help the machines, I played it and did, and that is your rpg game based off the matrix, its been done, and it was great in its time, but sadly it couldnt stand the test of time with newer MMO games comming out targeting younger kids like WOW, now the MMO world has a bunch of perverts in it sleep.gif , anyways im pretty sure there is already some matrix sprites out there in neoseekers site or whatever, but sometimes you have to be the first to give it a go, like me and my Roman rpg lol so sad RPG makers been around for a long time and these ideas havent been made into a game, but thats also what makes making games here exciting. hope that helped.

well, you can still do it if you want, it's just that you'd have certain pre-existing things that people will compare it to. Having said that, I'm pretty sure most of us will realize that there is a difference in terms of resources and development scale. (not to mention actual game play)

I think you'd probably have more difficulties figuring out how to make the game interesting since we all know the plot. but that is the challenge of every game.

It could be based on the world of the Matrix instead of the movie plot, so it can be made into your own in someone else's world, but yeah it has been done before; but what really hasn't that has a popular following?

If you want something unique that's still based on a movie, pick an obscure one you like that could translate into a game.

That's actually not a bad idea. Maybe instead of talking about what happened in the movie, you can make a game that talks about what happens BEFORE Neo came along. (You could, you know, play one of the previous messiahs) or you can play the world AFTER the movies, which is pretty much the subject of the Matrix MMO.

That's actually not a bad idea, even if it did fail miserably. Fan Games in general are okay, but I've seen too many of the same type of games, that it becomes difficult to swallow any more. Now we have a Tron fan game, and perhaps a Matrix, so hopefully this will inspire more people to venture outside of their shell to explore other possible fan games (Dune, a true Xenogears sequel, a Crystalis remake or sequel).

Wooo there skippy I know your not saying the Matrix MMO didnt fail Miserably right? Cause that game was rocking in its day, it was the best movie made into MMO i ever played, though not much to compare to, I have never seen a game since where ppl could log on and just go to HUGE partys in the clubs and dance the night away, THAT is what MMOs are leaving out thiese days, what is the point of just grinding/fighting, you need to have fun in these games not just worry about loot. But yes in its final days and yes I played it in its final days the matrix did have a horrible and very sad ending, because it changed managment and they lived off the name instead of adding content.

I understand that "franchise" idea really focuses on Income/reveniew rather then viewers plesure, I've noticed that with alot of ps3 games
It could work but you guys a right its been done & if done again maybe a differant angle that the movie never focused on just might bring new light to the idea.

On another note (Talking about franchise) has anyone seen the new harry potter (I was a fan) but GOD DAMN maybe instead of calling the movie "The deathly hallows" they should of named it "Depressing harry" oh well at least the cash flow will be high.

When I was in highschool lol years ago i read all the books that were out at the time, i think there were 3 or 4, then the movies started to come out, I saw the first one and was so horrified I never whatched any of the others. In america we have Hollywood and it just desrtorys movies, we need a new system cause its terrible, I have huge respect for the way movies are made in japan and eroupe, we got alot to learn.

No, what I'm saying is, even if it was made using rpg maker and failed (and again, I'm not saying it will, but there is that possibility), I'd still commend the designer for taking the chance of creating something that is outside of the norm of typical fan-made games, since there are already too many Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, Zelda fan games.
