Simple Vocal Inputting in VX

Please Note that i am not saying that this is the ONLY way of doing this, this is simple but I use this technique and it works really well for me!

Audio Prepping

You must ensure that there are NO gaps at the beginning of the audio... your VA may have already done this but IF they haven't ..

Download the free software Audacity:
Audacity Website open up the audio that you have been sent:

Screenshot:
Screenie

Notice the flat line at the begining of the project,
if you leave this then it means that your audio will have a gap at the beginning
okay, so time to say goodbye to that section select it and delete it now then it should look like this:

Screenie

Now we need to EXPORT the audio to an audio type of your choice! (i prefer to use mp3)
so...

FILE>EXPORT TO MP3/OGG/WAV

Screenie

then you need to save it so that it OVERWRITES your previous audio!

Input Into Project Folder!

Excellent you have prepared you file NOW it is time to input it into your project folder!

Here is where it is your choice but I prefer to input it into the SE folder as there is the the ability to stop the audio which will become important later!

I normally just CUT and paste directly into Audio>SE!

Screenie

The Eventing Part!

Okay, now that the prep has been done time to input this into your project!
Now to go to the lines that are already placed into an event:

Screenie

Once we have done that we now need to input the audio to do that we open up the event command window and go to page two:

Screenie

Then select the audio that you want to use once you have done that the screen should look like this:

Screenie

Overlapping Issues

You don't always want to listen to what they are saying!

Unfortunately, if you try to skip through, and there are other lines you will have both the first line and the other audio lines overlapping the first and so on and so on! On the second page of event commands there is a STOP SE command:

Screenie

This does exactly what is says in the tin..or button... it stops the audio from overlapping!

So use it but remember to always place it after the text box like this:
Screenie

This destroys the horrifying overlapping

Hope you enjoyed this tutorial biggrin.gif Thanks for reading

Great tutorial for beginners. Too bad you cant fade out the SE else I would prefer that over just plain stopping it.
Lots of detail and pictures (gotta love pictures) with the tutorial.
Again, good job.

It would be nice to have the option to fade out, but unless you where to use BGS it just could be possible and if you used BGS it would be more difficult to handle biggrin.gif

Could it be scripted?? Hmmm questions questions lol biggrin.gif

If I'm not mistaken you can just add a fade out effect on Audacity...or whatever Music software you use.
kayden997
No, I ment when you stop the sound after the text
Keep in mind a play may not want to hear all the speech and just press enter to skip.

Nothing bad, just a little addition that would make it 1% better

Do you mean in similarity to the effect used in the beginning scenes of Final Fantasy 10, where the commentary fades out on the map transfer? Hold up I will find a video link.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vuk3pVcaXH0...tailpage#t=501s

EDIT: Just like that, when the map transfers the Lines fade out, instead of just stops...but of course in this context this effect is for use when you try to move on...however in this case the overlapping issue could still continue...

I tend to record and it becomes .wav or .wma files.
Jonnie19
The issue for me with .wav files is the fact that it is very large, meaning it will effect the download size....Since creating this tutorial I am now using ogg, purely because of the file size, when your game hold ALOT of custom graphics it makes a game size huge smile.gif

I also personally found the quality clearer too tongue.gif

I'm loving how you used my voice acting lines for this XD
Darn it, Darn it, Darn it!
didn't I audition with that line?
It's good to know I'm not doing it wrong XD Thanks for the tutorial smile.gif I think this'll help a lot of people.
Yay for being Ren and seeing my lines used in a tutorial biggrin.gif
Good job smile.gif
