This is the basic concept of my story Call of Thunder. I would love to hear what you think about it.

~--------------------------------------------------~

Call of Thunder

With the creation comes the rains
with the rains comes the thunder
and in the sound of thunder
there is the call to the spirits.
A call for new life to be born.
~-The story of creation from the Fjin’n people

Ironic how it is that when a person looks straight ahead they can’t see what’s right in front of them.
~-Droaj Jurnen, Fjin’n Shaman

The people of Fjin tell stories of a thing called “The Fall”, when a person becomes so detached from the world that their soul falls away from their body. So often a fall ends in the persons death, the soul abandoning the body for good in search of a new beginning.

But there are times when a spirit is pulled back by the sound of creation, the call of thunder. Not yet will the gods let the soul be free, for still there is something they are called to do, something only they can manage.

And so the soul must experience their selves in a new way. Who they are becomes a world, turning again and again into something now quite real and now quite a dream, but something in between.

Such a call was heard by the spirit of the shamans daughter as she began the fall. Down she fell into the darkness to arrive in a strange land. She had no body. She was simply a soul.

~--------------------------------------------------~

The story follows the girls journey as she ventures into the world that represents her own life and mind. She must go through ten trials to rebalance her life and bring her out of the Fall. Through these trials she will gain the ability to become different animals, such as the wolf, fox, falcon, and the mythical leviathan. She will also be able to shift between being a male warrior and a female mage.

The first trial is like a dungeon you would see in Zelda. There are puzzles and some demons to destroy, and when she reaches the end she must face a "Demon" of her past.

Some of the other dungeons are like that, but some are very different. One dungeon is actually a city where the puzzle pieces are the people, and the goal is not to kill something at the end, but rather to save someone and to bring forth a new leader for the city. Another dungeon is entirely a puzzle, in fact it is a single room, and the only objective is to cause the room to disappear.

Sounds pretty damn original to me. Maybe I just don't play enough games/watch enough TV/read enough books, but I haven't heard of souls falling out of bodies in a long time. ohmy.gif

Be interesting to see in action.

The hard part, of course, is making it happen... but I wouldn't put it past a skilled development team. Or even a skilled developer.

I like this idea.
The concept of the trials interests me, I would definitely play this when you made it~
I do have some questions, though: the Fjin'n people sound important, as they are the tribe of the main character.
Will these trials tell the history of their tribe in any way, and will the other people of the tribe have anything to do with the girl once her soul enters her body again?
I guess another question would be, what happens when you complete all 10 trials - will your soul enter your body, and would that be the end of the game?

Well it will either be the 10 trials and then a final encounter, or 9 trials and one final uber trial, but either way that would be the end of it.

The story of the Fjin'n people is told through the souls encounter with NPC's throughout the game. Some of the enemies are representations of people she knew, and some NPC's are as well. You learn about the "real world" through this fallen world. So everything takes place in the fall, so you never actually play in the real world, but you learn all about it.

And yes, through the dungeons you find out a lot about the Fjin'n, about her, and about everything in general ^^

I'm actually kind of surprised so far at the responces, but pleased ^^. I have no faith in my writing/creative design skills so its good to hear people (other than my family) saying it sounds good.

Oh, I like that idea even better.
:D
And don't worry, your writing is wonderful!
You don't have to be extremely literate or fluent, as long as you're creative and flexible.
You've very much surpassed the creativity I see in most amateur writers; you're plenty good!

I read the title.. and the bit underneath it.. I smiled. I read the story and thought.. "This is really good" I wanna see this game biggrin.gif

Wow thanks everyone ^^ I feel inspired to actually keep doing this. If people (other than myself) are actually interested in this, I shall continue with all haste ^^

I just had an idea! She must face the demons of her past, and each of these "demons" is unique with its own special strategy involved in it.

Now personally, I hate combat in games. There are times when I'm like THIS IS FREEKING AWESOME (rouge galaxy, resonance of fate) but eventually I just get tired of it.

The only exception is Shadow of the Colossus, Mostly because combat was limited to just the bosses. There were 13 (I think) and thats all you did, fight them. Thats the whole point of the game.

Now I don't want to take out almost all combat, but I don't want it to be normal and repetitive. And while thinking about this, I came upon an idea.

What if the combat was unique for every encounter? Not just in its strengths and weakenesses, but in strange and unusual ways. Such as you come across a creature in the shadows and the only way to kill it is to force it into the light, so you have to find a way to lure it into the light. Or perhaps you find a creature that gets stronger the more you try to harm it. Just weird things like that. Basically, make combat its own puzzle, and make each one unique in its own way.

While it could be frustrating, personally I would love something like that. Something that I had to figure out and come up with a unique solution to it.

What do you guys think? Would this be to much? Would it make you want to stop playing, or would it make you want to play it more?

All of your ideas reek originality. At least, to me. I wouldn't really know, though. I don't venture too far out of my comfort zone, and I'm in love with battles in games. Anyway, your idea for beating things without actually fighting them, making the fighting itself a puzzle, seems fitting for a game centered around a soul's journey into rediscovery. I like it, and I would most certainly play it. You're quite creative, and I hope you do well.

Thank you very much ^^.

I'm working on fleshing out much more of the story right now. In the next few days expect a very large update including a list of characters and more details about them.

EDIT:

Actually going to be longer than that. I've decided I wont post anything more of the story until I also have some pics to go with it of, at the very least, the two main characters. Maybe the Fjin'n village as well.
