Full Version: Mode 7?

To me, Mode 7 seems revolutionary. As long as you know how to work with it, you can make incredible-looking maps, even ceilings! But I never see it utilized in any projects, except for This Project and it's first version, which I think look absolutely beautiful.

So, why is this? Is it unfavorable? Do people just want to avoid making custom sprites and figuring out how to make maps? I'm a little confused. Personally I think it's pretty fun to find out new ways of making a map and watching it spring to life. It certainly makes it look a lot more different than the countless RTP-Using projects out there.

Opinions? Sorry if anyone has seen this before, I've looked everywhere for a Mode 7 Pros and Cons but I can't find one.

I would personally use it if I was mapping with RPG Maker VX, unfortunately... It's hard to find a completely stable script. Due to the events placed on the maps don't match up with the new angle/perspective. If someone made a stable script, I would definitely use mode7 in my next project.

Making the ceilings is just an illusion of events on top of the map tiles. Although this looks like an interesting game, why is it showing the same room over and over??

Yes I know about the illusion, but I think it's better than a top-down view of sprites on their side. He's just showing off what he's doing with his new game, look at his other video for his first game, that has some gameplay in it. I think he also even did a Let's Play. It's all in German though and I don't know that language.

well if you use MCG's NeoMode7+ Convertion system in which it takes mode7 maps from XP and imports them into VX and events don't seem to have the float up illusion that regular mode7 script. It is a little more trouble to put in your project but I think it is well worth it. The NeoMode7+ lets you use the same MCG NEOMode7+ maps with both XP and VX. It is quite an accomplishment.
