Took me about maybe 5 minutes or so to complete the survey. Wasn't hard or anything. I'll be watching the results of this survey (I'm kind of interested in what everyone else chose as there answers).
theweirdn8
Any suggestions to the survey?

I hope I can use proper statistical analysis while compiling the survey's results.

What statistical analyses do you plan on doing?
Shadyone
Very quick survey, everyone should do it biggrin.gif these are my answers:

6: Big Commercial Companies
7: Yes
8: No
9: Neutral

11: Console-based 2D games
12: Adventure, RPG, MMO, shooters, TBS, RTS,

17:Simple graphic styles, no music/sound, poor or confusing control layout, horrible design, spelling/grammatical errors, poor translation, cheesy storyline, unfair difficulty
(Not part of the question: Soul Calibur 3 has to be the hardest game I've EVER played.)
18: The hype, the presentation and the news of the game.
Vanit
I was a little surprised that there weren't any questions that actually focused around behaviours on facebook or the iPhone/iPad as those are the platforms 2D is doing the best on right now (and probably more so in coming years).
Klokinator
I filled it out. Don't recall my answers, but they all involved Fire Emblem.
Zakerot
Hey, I also took the survey. I agree with Shadyone everyone should do it.

What statistical analyses do you plan on doing?

Making conclusions based upon the input given by you all and others. I do not plan to go to the extent which major businesses do, but should have the basics in it.
Rob_Riv
I just meant, what actual statistical tests do you plan on doing?
theweirdn8
Alot of counting and geographical interring.

Okay, will keep that in mind for when do we another survey. But so far guys there is 79 completed surveys for the new survey. Have a long way til like 500 are done. Please tell your friends about it as well.

Also I made a coupon system for tailware.com for those who complete the surveys. So when done, it will take you to the coupon generator page, copy that nice coupon into notepate, and save it for later use on a tailware game. Also if you took the survey before I announced this or got a coupon, that is fine too, pm me and I can give you a free coupon.
theweirdn8
So far there are 140 completed surveys.
theweirdn8
Guys rejoice, there are 177 completed surveys.
minius

Opening the pdf caused my mouse to stop responding and I had to reboot. Fair warning to anyone else who downloads it.

The zip file shows how poor this survey was.

There are statements like "Male or Female, not really anything special. Now since most of the surveys were posted on
game developer websites, this question may be too biased." - What does this mean? How can it be biased? You're asking the survey to people on game development websites.

What it actually means is that the results cannot necessarily be generalised to women. In order to find out, you'd have to take the very few women's statistics and correlate them with the men's responses. Although the number of responses from women really is too low, it would give you some kind of indication of how similar the results are.

Some of the percentages shown are incorrect, as you can select more than one option. In those situations a percentage of participants (rather than responses) is obviously appropriate. For example...

"The glorious Mac vs Pc question appeared here. Windows Users came in 1st place with 75%
of the vote(190 votes), followed by Linux(17%), and then Mac."

Next, asking between "big commerical", "medium independent" and "small independent" game companies. It's just a horribly written question.

I mean, you point out the problems with what people want and don't want in games, but those points were obvious from the outset.

Overall, I don't understand the purpose in the survey, and I don't understand what knowledge we have gained from its results.
theweirdn8
I understand, many of the questions were flawed, this was my first survey. For the future I hope to make better surveys. Maybe you can proofread the questions for me next time.

I did learn a few things. Also, I think Question 18 may be valuable.

There's going to be a next time? I have no interest in helping out.

You didn't analyse the data though, so it's not useful.
