Shadyone
Hallo Stern, XMO and thanks for the critique guys =)

QUOTE
I may be wrong in saying this, but it sounds like you haven't "panned" any of the instruments at all.

That is true, I haven't "panned" (not sure what you mean by that though), I literally slapped the drums over it. Although I learned something with FL Studio and using the song mode for this.

QUOTE
Also the "choir-like" synth/instrument is that general midi? It sounds a little bit out of place together with that high quality synth.

The synth choir is from the same VST as the other synth, hadn't really noticed that hmm

QUOTE
I've come to quite like the song ever since you sent me that original to put a string quartet to, even though I have no clue where it's from. It's a catchy tune biggrin.gif

Keep on composin' !

Awesome, it's from CLANNAD btw wink.gif and of course I will =D

QUOTE (XMO)
I definitely like the idea of the addition of the drums, great beat too, but I would have to agree with Stern in relation to the drums "competing with the other instruments for the spotlight". Sometimes they overlap just a little, but otherwise I love it. =D

Overlap? not sure what you mean there either sorry xD
X-M-O
Basically, when two instruments (drums and synth, for example) sound like they are both fighting for the spotlight, they sound as if they are overlapping each other.
One is stronger at one moment, and then quieter at another moment, and then back and forth like that. (Overlapping sound; though I'm sure that is just my own word for it and there is likely a technical term for what I'm describing.)
Panning the audio properly will solve the issue.
And there is no better way for me to describe "panning" than to link you to Wikipedia (it's much easier, and there is more information there than what I can remember on the subject). Check it out.

Ah thanks so much! biggrin.gif I think I understand now
*update of sorts*
http://soundcloud.com/shadyone-2/dango-dai...-trance-remix-2

Tried to pan it, also removed lots of the randomness in the drums and made it one loop that fits the song the most out of what I used.

Version 2 is awesome! The incorporation of the drums really gave it some "umph" and brought a sense of nostalgia~ You did a great job with the covers, but I'm really waiting for more of your original compositions! smile.gif
Shadyone
Thank you very much Nanashi ^^, I am still working on an original composition. Taking longer than I want it to though
Nanashi
That's fine, don't rush it! I'm sure it's tedious and requires a lot more than putting a pencil to paper like I do.
X-M-O
I agree it's much better than the previous one. =D

New stufflez for teh Arr pee gee revolutionisers?

http://soundcloud.com/shadyone-2/boss-battle-theme-2

Updated version of my boss theme =)
X-M-O
New Battle Theme 2 has a unique tune, and a very cool one at that. I definitely enjoyed listening to this one. =D

Boss Baddle Tweme has an interesting intro, but gets into a really nice beat shortly after. Sounds really cool actually. ^^
I think a little more hardcore sounding would make it match better to the idea of a Boss Theme, but it could work as it is depending on the type of boss. =]

Boss Battle Theme 2 is a lot more quiet than the other version; had to turn my volume up pretty high to even hear it.
However, it is much better than the first one, in my opinion. The violin/cello combination versus the bell sounds better because the percussion matches better and is more balanced than the much louder bell sound. =]
You could totally add a short transition in there somewhere, with loud guitars and such, lol. Sounds great. ^^

Hello =) Glad you enjoyed them X-M-O. My idea for the boss theme was not for it to be so much hardcore but a casual boss more like. Also for the second version I had to lower the volume extremely low because the other instruments covered the cello and violin so much that you could literally not hear them even though I had them set to max.

Very interesting take on your music Shadyone. I've definitely enjoyed hearing some of your tunes, especially the chip-tunes! A lot of the music for some reason reminds me of Final Fantasy X-2 considering the eclecticism in the music, preferably the battle themes, which made the game really stand out most.
Anyways, thought I'd throw in some critique: I won't take away the fact that there is a lot of good potential and originality in your music and also noticed you've panned some instruments so that they're not clashing. I know X-M-O and Stern have brought that to attention, but nevertheless, keep it up! smile.gif However, some of it is rather repetitive and does end a little prematurely. Now, I've noticed in New Battle Theme 2 and Boss Baddle Tweme, the composition is vastly improving and I like the idea you're getting at. May I make a suggestion? Maybe put a little more instruments to "polish" the music AND also implementing some trance/techno music. Not all on one general score, but playing it on seperate verses such as, starting off with classical/video game music as an introduction and slowly reach to the apogee of your music eventually changing into a trance beat. If you've played Final Fantasy XIII, take reference to this song: Defiers of Fate

Again, marvelous job! I'm sure once you master both classical with elements of trance, you'd make some excellent modern RPG music! wink.gif

About your suggestion, I think I will defnitely try that, it's a brilliant idea =D I'm not sure how well it'd turn out though since classical and trance are slightly opposites of each other.. if that makes sense

Also thanks for the mp3, I've been looking for that particular song for the past couple days XD

http://soundcloud.com/shadyone-2/final-fan...xiii-defiers-of
Here's a new nightcore from me, my friend was waiting me to do this one hehe
X-M-O
Defiers of Fate is really strong, yet beautiful. Very nicely done, sounds like battle music to a game (I don't know what Final Fantasy music sounds like, so I'm not sure if that's battle music from there, but it sounds nice). =]
Nice work on the percussion, superb. =D

Umm... I'll come back when I think of words XD

Alright, Nightcore is a type of remix genre, basically it's just a sped up version of the original song, I nightcored Defier's of Fate from the Final Fantasy XIII game.
X-M-O
Ah, that makes sense, lol.
I don't spend as much time paying attention to those types of things as I probably should, apparently. XD

Either way, sounds cool. tongue.gif

Hello everyone, I am not dead as you can clearly see so here's some unfinished work that I'm currently working on =)
http://soundcloud.com/shadyone-2/sets/melodies_in_c-minor

And (Ugh I hate using capitals for the word 'and', it just feels wrong) also a new cover (obviously for a CLANNAD song) in 2 forms
http://soundcloud.com/shadyone-2/snowfield-harp-and-strings <--- This is one I just finished, and a YouTube one I uploaded a little while ago:

Please, please tell me what you think and give me as much critique as possible, the good, the bad and the ugly >=D
X-M-O
Melodies (all three of them) sound as if they could be great pieces to a composition, so they are nice for what they are but I'd love to hear them in a full composition. =D

Snowfield is very nicely done, sounds as if it could work as a part of Clannad's OST (instrumental version). wink.gif

Out of all the melodies which one did you like the most? I want to finish the best ones first so I can see where I am at with my learning
X-M-O
It's hard to say which is best, though I preferred the first one most. =]
I'm happy to know that you're working on more completed versions of them, and will be sure to give them a listen once you post up revisions/additions. ^^

Alright first one it is! =D I will hopefully work on it as soon as I wake up XD
X-M-O
As soon as you wake up? O_O
Are you posting in your sleep again? XD

Yeah, I'd do the first and third ball on the 20-yard line before the second. wink.gif

Don't understand nor have heard of that metaphor... o.0

Anyways I got a bit of work done on the first one: http://soundcloud.com/shadyone-2/melody-1-extended
Added a violin and improved the melody a bit as well as adding to it.
X-M-O
Hey, sounds like it's coming along nicely. ^^
Add more, give it another bit of depth; it sounds like it could work for a dark theme, by the way. I love dark themes. >:3

The metaphor is just a play on words actually. "First and third, ball on the 20-yard line" is something said in American Football, you'd only get it if you knew a bit about that sport (and that sport is basically a spin-off form of Rugby).

When I get back from school (and as long as I don't fall asleep as soon as I do) I have a few ideas to add a bit more depth I was thinking of just now, requires more changing of the melody.

That hurted my brain a little wink.gif XD
Stern
Hey that's coming along nicely! I think you could try to figure out a nice transition when you start adding more to the piece. Other than that X-M-O wrote what I wanted to say. Add more to it.

Also, let me know If you need any advice on how to make EWQL's strings sound more authentic. You know where to find me! wink.gif
Shadyone
Oh my god. Totally forgot about that project! I should do something with them XDD

Well for now here's another piece:
http://soundcloud.com/shadyone-2/river-of-lost-time
I will be using this in my upcoming game plan; Reverie of The Souls. As you can tell from the title, it'll be quite influenced by music =)
