So after playing a few RM games I finally decided to start making my own rpg but... I have a little problem. I started practicing with rpg maker vx, I found a good battle system script but at the same time I felt limited with the VX mapping style so I tried RMXP. The Mapping in RMXP is so much better and versatile but the problem now is that I prefer the battle system I'm using for vx because it looks much better and I also wasted too much time editing/recoloring some sprites to make them look a bit different from the rtp. Another problem is that I found some scripts that I couldn't find for rpg maker xp... So right now I'm debating with myself. Should I use RMXP because I have more options with the mapping or stay with RMVX because I have more resources and a battle system I like?

Any help is welcome lol.

I think this will help you to decide

Ultimately it's up to you. I prefer XP or VX because it's what I used the most. There are some people who can help you with your scripts. If you have a script that is only for XP or VX, someone may be able to make it so it's compatible with whatever version you decide to use.

What ever battle system it is I'm sure they'll be a XP alternative somewhere or one can be configured to a similar style to the VX one you're using.

Do you mean resources as in scripts? Because there's always a growing number of resources for VX as well as XP.

Personally I use XP because well personal preference, the mapping and such can be argued to use backgrounds instead of tiles etc but I find it more useful to do edits within tiles and have the layers option so I can move things around easier.

I suppose it could be useful to expand on what you'd be looking for if you were to transfer over, see what's out there and if it's not 100% necessary what you don't have or is out there then go for it, but if you find there's some crucial or the basis of you project is missing then stick with VX and or put a request for the script to be made compatible with XP.

@InfiniteSpawn - Thanks for the link it helped a lot. It says that RMVX is more easy for beginners and I'm a beginner. But still, the mapping always turns me down lol.

@Holder - I'm currently using Tankentai Side View Battle System with plenty of add-ons. I looked in the RGSS script list but I only found one similar script but it didn't look good to me.

When you say backgrounds you mean I can use pictures instead of tiles, right? Could you give me more details on how to do this, I'm a fast learner (at least I like to think so) And I'm confident that I can find a way to mix tiles with backgrounds if I must.
