hola forums
Im a freelance composer, and I like to write for fun and for small projects. My stuff isnt that good, but I thought I would share it with you. I've been writing for a long time and currently am in my last year of music, about to head into my pre-PHD stuff for marimba performance.
anyways, I hope you guys enjoy.

To those of you who would not listen to the above music because the member is new to RRR, think again.
I always give music a chance, and I'm almost always glad that I do.
Fat Panda's music is quite good, and he shows a lot of talent.
Fat Panda, I fell in love with
Battery Powered at about half-way through the song. Nice job!
Tide of Life was also good, it needs to be a bit longer though - even if it could be used as a looping soundtrack. XD
I was expecting something different from
Sarsaparilla, but I wasn't disappointed with what I heard. =]
Couldn't get
Washed Ashore or
Reilick's Dance to load properly (WMA doesn't like me very much apparently), if you could re-upload them as MP3 files that would be amazing. =]
Post more! =D

Wow, fast response! Thanks alot dude, I appreciate your feedback! Sorry about the WMA; its pretty lame sometimes, so yeah I will re-upload. I have a bunch of music but ill progressively put it up. I am glad you like what you hear so far.
Once again, thanks for taking the time to listen! It means alot.
Edit:
The first post has been edited with the wma's as mp3

My pleasure.

I'm able to listen to them now! =D
Comments:
Washed Ashore is peaceful and progressively increases at points through the song, which gives it a good feeling and matches the name. It also makes use of bells in the music and waves in the background, both apply well to the theme and aren't annoyingly overdone at all - so in other words it's brilliant! =]
Reilick's Dance is actually dance-battle-like, which is great (start a battle with the text "let's dance" and you get the idea). It's also reminiscent of an Ice Bowser Castle, or something. Overall, very nice and catchy. Loved this one a lot! =D

Yay! More music! =D
Comments:
Dark Theme is pretty average, but meets what I expected. Sounds as if it could be used in an old castle in a game or something.
Finale fits as a battle theme for a boss, pretty good - reminded me of MegaMan for some reason. =]
Serious works as background music to a serious conversational plot in a story; not bad.
Stage 12 is my favourite of these last few songs. Good tune, love it. =]

Really nice collection you've got going here, Tide of Life is really cool. Yeah I love Battery Powered aswel, not 100% keen on the starting bit but once the beat kicks in it's great.
Reilick's Dance is good but personally at times sounds like there's a bit too much treble (Think that's the best term to describe what I mean)
Your chip tunes are nice, I've not long been a listener to that genre but from those tracks there I may give them another go
Fat Panda
Feb 19 2011, 02:38 PM
I agree about the treble, it might be overpowering the bass. I appreciate all of your comments though! It means alot.

It seems that the more attention you get, the more music you give. That's the point though, eh? =D
Comments:
Gargantuan March is very fast-paced. Sounds good as soon as the piano solo starts and then stays good after that. =]
Originality is curiously named, and I'm not sure if it is 100% accurate but... I love this one! >=D
(Yeah, it does kind of remind me of something else that I've heard in the distant past, but it's original enough I suppose, lol.)
Past the Depths of Insanity sounds like the climax or battle theme for a climactic/epic battle of some sort. D=
I like. ^^

I like most of your music, I'm gonna say...
It seems like everyone who posts here does video game tracks, and that's it though :\. Not that video game music is bad, just alot of people do. Still, I really like some of your pieces, like finale2. The one thing that frustrates about some of your music is the lack of bass end though

I mean, I understand sometimes, but some of your songs sound like they don't even have bass at all.
Fat Panda
Feb 21 2011, 06:22 AM
I write tons of music outside of VG themes, ill see if I can post some this week! I just didnt know if that was what people wanted to hear

As far as the bass goes, you are completely right! I tend to be treble heavy on my pieces. I guess I should fix that, eh? But thank you for pointing that out; I always tend to forget that. Thanks for liking my music, though!
Adriantepes
Feb 21 2011, 07:24 AM
Not really fix, your music still sounds great, even if a tad treble y haha

Also, I definitely want to hear some of your other stuff

Ask and ye shall recieve!
http://bb.ohsk.net/uploads/Ghost%20Anthem.mp3 <--- originally an original song for my demo CD, but I never found a singer to sing for it :<
it lags a bit in some parts, but its cause my mixer was sucking ass lol.
http://bb.ohsk.net/uploads/Almond%20Eyes.mp3 <---- another original song without lyrics for my demo :< I think it would sound lovely with a voice, but oh well.
Hope you enjoy!

Feb 21 2011, 06:44 PM
The first tune was a bit crazy, but strangely catchy xD
The second one has crazy potential though O.O Like, woah. I could see this with some upbeat drum sounds, maybe a nice higher edged guy singer, I could see this as a nice little pop song. Or like, with a little bit of work, it could even be written a part for a full chorus <3 I like it very much.

Wow, Thanks man! I appreciate you kind words! I'll be sure to check out your stuff too (I see youre a musician)
I just finished this, I was playing Mega Man X 4 and I got a tad inspired. Its not that good, but Its a small little boss theme I came up with from a random melody in my head

Your stuff is pretty good man. I really like the Tide of Life. I wasn't expected the epic part to come in around the 00:24 sec mark or so. The instrument arrangement in all of your pieces are very good. I think us musicians who has posted recent topics displaying our work should get together and create a few epic compositions. Just a thought.

Some of the chord progressions are fairly jazzy and smooth, and you have some nice melodies here and there, but your instruments tones frustrate me a bit

Isn't it about time...
TO POWER UP YOUR MUSIC MAKING TECHNOLOGYYYYY?
Fat Panda
Feb 26 2011, 08:32 AM
The tones frustrate you? Im a bit confused, do you mean the samples? I think they sound pretty strong, maybe Im wrong though.
Also I used a various amount of software to create my songs. I compose and edit songs though Finale, then edit them in Cubase or Pro Tools (depends sometimes), and finish mixing them in Gold Wave or AVS.
Thanks for listening, btw

QUOTE (Fat Panda @ Feb 25 2011, 06:40 PM)

Chill n Blues is my second-favourite of this group of songs. It's got blues, it's long enough, and has a pretty cool melody. =D
More songs like this would be awesome! =D
Disfunction was pretty good and had me interested for the first ten seconds, but I think would sound better with more bass and less "noise". (Not sure how to describe that sound, lol.)
DOOPS was curious, but seems to be missing something... not sure what, just... something... =\
Sloth City was far too short, but has an amazing melody. Would love to hear an extended version of it. =]
The Dulcimeris brilliant! Obviously using the motif from Battery Powered has me biased, but I really like this song the best of these five. =]
The dulcimer is a nice instrument; relaxing.
Fat Panda
Feb 28 2011, 11:06 AM
Haha, thanks man! I agree about DOOPS...I might add some bass and percussion, it was just a random melody I had in my head, but I am glad you enjoy these!

Feb 28 2011, 01:58 PM
Tone as in the specific sound you are getting out of each synth, sample and instrument in the song. Pretty basic term, I thought...
I'm just saying I think it's about time you upgraded your technology. Save up some cash and make your music better, by like, switching to cubase, and buying a nice set of VSTi's, and maybe some new recording gear... The stuff is really important
Fat Panda
Feb 28 2011, 05:37 PM
I knew what you meant (I know what a tone of a sound is), but people sling that around all the time, so you actually werent as specific as you thought. As far as your tip, thanks, but Im well aware of the mechanics of audio technology (you come off a little pretentious, btw, although I know you probably dont mean it that way). I use Finale 2009 for my scoring, and once that is done I edit the midi file in Cubase 5, and I use whatever specific sound Id like. As far as a nice set of VST, Its moreso up to what I want my piece to sound like, so if it sounds pretty ballsy I usually want it to say that way hah. So as far as "upgrading" goes, Im pretty recent to be honest. I have VSTs ranging from EWQLSO to stuff like Pro-53; Its just my prerogative to use it actually.
Making music better isnt about the type of sound you use, its about how you use the sound, no matter what it is. I usually hear amazing midi with a non-professional VST sound great rather than one with Komplete sounds, because the writer feels that since he has a professional collection of samples that his piece will sound fantastic.

Didn't mean to sound cocky

Sorry. I do believe in the power of composition, of course. A good piece will always sound good, no matter what the quality of your sounds. I'm just a tone junkie, despite my lack of a decent guitar amp myself xD <3

CCTheme1 was pretty decent, but not as good as CCTheme3 (in my opinion) since CCTheme3 was really awesome and reminiscent of the SNES Donkey Kong Country 2 soundtrack. =]
Electric Powered2 was brilliant! I really loved it, has a great tune and plenty of action going on. (Transition with the guitar was pretty good as well.) =D

Tide of Life: This theme fits very well on an ending or an intro, i enjoied it to the end, its pretty cool man, i think that this take a lot of work, mabye can be used on a sad moment too.
Battery Powered: Reminds me to a beat 'em up game, i don't know, its a memorable and good theme, it have like a retro style, good job.
Washed Shore: Nice song, i like the effects that you used on this, this theme has a lot of calm, but in some moments goes to climax, this is a good detail, it can be used in many situations of a RPG game, for an intro its perfect.
Sarsparilla: I dont know why, but reminds me to games like Secret of Mana, fits very well on a road in some RPG, its a cool theme.
Reilick's Dance: Sounds like a battle theme, its a pretty cool tune, i like that percussion that you used.
Well man, i'm sorry for my lack of criticism, but i dont speak english very well, and i dont know much about music or the technique, but i can say that you have a lot of talent to create memorable pieces =), i will listen your other themes later =)

Tread in the Forest follows its name extremely well. A brilliant job, though I'd love to hear more (it was a bit short).
Clash is exciting and fast. Has cool underlying tune, but needs a bit more bass in my opinion. =]

Tread in the forest sounds like a very professional song

Panda, these are amazing.

I'll list my thoughts on some of my favourites.
Reilick's Dance
WHOAAAA.
As soon as this started, I got chills down my spine.
I guarantee you, if this is used in a boss battle, it'll be one where I'm purposely stalling just to hear the music, and I'll restart it right after defeating the boss to hear it all over again.
I love the beat of this song, it's wonderfully catchy, and the upbeat piano is a great addition.
This song gets... 10 out of 10 gaping mouths from me.
Loool.
Washed Ashore
This song perfectly sets the mood for its title.
I love the melody, and the fact that all of the instruments go together so well.
Sarsaparilla
This song is catchy, I like it.
8D
I couldn't help but start tapping my foot about 1/4 way through the song.
I love the guitars, and the woodblock.
Stage 12
This is definitely good music for a stage.
And is that... an accordion?
It sure sounds like it.
I HAVE NEVER HEARD AN ACCORDION GO SO MAD WITH POWER.
I LOVE IT.
BD
Serus 2
I like the 8-bit sound of this song.
It's also catchy, and sounds a bit like... Western-genre Pokemon.
Aha, that sounds a bit odd, but it's really a nice sound.
c:
Dark Theme
I can't say that it sounds extremely 'dark,' it sounds more like a world map to me.
But I still like the tune and the 8-bit-ness of it all.
I also listened to Originality, Gargantuan March, Past the Depths of Insanity, Serious 1, Battery Powered, Tide of Life, and Boss Heh.
They were mediocre; I liked a few of them, but their dynamics mostly stay the same.
You should give some of these songs more leeway for establishing their melodies so it's more powerful; among other things, I guess.
:0

Wow! Thank you so much for your thorough feeback on my songs! Let me first thank you for listening and for the positive comments

As far as your critiques, they are pretty spot on for most. I agree with the mediocre aspects in the songs youve mentioned. Some were just short melodies that popped into my head that I tried to incorperate into longer themes, but I guess they still need some TLC! I also appreciate you pointing out the specific instruments (like the woodblock in Sarsparilla, no one mentions it, but I thought it was a pretty big part of the tune percussive-wise)
Thanks a bunch!

I quite like some of your music. I haven't listened to anything but the stuff in your first post, but I thought I'd let you know that my favorite by far is Washed Ashore. Very good work. If I didn't have a musician/composer already and if I didn't have such little time I would definitely consider giving you a chance at composing music for a small game. <-- That translates to you are pretty good at making music and I like your work and style.

Hope you make more good stuff in the future!
