Why are you doing voice acting to begin with? You characters dont have moving faces and honesty it sounds bad. You should create a version WITHOUT voice acting

There is. It clearly says in the first post. How did you download the voiced version without seeing the version that didn't have voice acting?
Adrien.
i didnt download either and i am dead tired so i may have glossed over it
Twidge
There is a version written in big letters saying Without Voice Acting.
And If you didn't download it, how do you know it sounds bad? My voice actors have put a lot of work into this, and that's sort of an insult to them. I'm trying to do something different, so that's why I'm implementing voice acting.
X-M-O
I believe that Adrien. meant to say, "all attempts I've heard at voice acting in a game have sounded bad and are not complemented by character mouth movement".
So basically, it is his view that the idea of voice acting is bad - not that your game in particular sounds bad.
(Of course, it is a generalisation, but he is entitled to his opinion.)

I personally think that it is great to try new ideas and implement them in your game. If it works then great, if it doesn't work then you've learned something. =]
Twidge
Ah well then, sorry for misunderstanding...
But, I do think the voice acting generally does work well here, I think It adds a new degree to the characters, that is something you can't normally do with games that don't have moving faces or anything
OranGemeo
First of all, I'm actually glad you chose to go with VAs. Not only that,I was quite surprised with the ones you have. I wasn't expecting the VA to be pretty good, was rather pleased with them. Seems to fit the characters well, so I say keep up the good work with it (You already know this, but it skips on some things. I don't think VA is actually necessary for a lot. You could perhaps shorten it to cutscenes / intro type stuff and them saying some stuff in battle - not almost every message string).

I can tell you put a lot of work into the game, characters, etc. I definatley think you have some good potential here.

I LOVE your art style. It's unique and great. (What I would love, would be if the game's graphics matched the art style more. You know, more cartoonish. Maybe even something more along the lines of Mario and Luigi games) - not saying you'd want to change it over, but it's just a thought. I don't the the VX-type characters (the really cute things) are that great in any game I've seen, I tend not to like em much.

Some Problems I found:

1 - This screen was a little odd for me. You can see that he can walk on the sign (that you can't read). It's odd to me as well that she mentions "Oh, it's dark in here." To me, it's odd that they can light the torches with none of them having fire or fire magic.
2- I honestly have no idea what to do here. The switch made the rock appear to do something near the water, This screen kinda glitched when I walked out then back in. The rock I pushed to the water is back, but you can walk on it, and I can hop on the water to hit the switch.
3- Can walk through the circled stuff. Probably shouldn't be able to. (See 4)
4- This happened in the first cave and the second. You see map pathing that just is a little strange. I feel like the character should be able to walk to the right, since there's a path there. Would be a good spot to hide something, you know? It happens in the forest a lot, too. Like the road being one tile big and on the next map, it's two tiles big. Just gotta be careful with spots that look like you should be able to go to the next map but can't.

Last Thoughts:
*I won't comment on the story, as it seems a little undeveloped and probably still in the works. I think it would be cool if in the intro, before you hear Scatto talking or something, have a nice little tidbit about the Relic and it's importance. I'm not sure why it is important really, and seems hard to base a story off trying to find something that nobody knows what it does. (People of the Sea and Earth seems slightly strange, too. Perhaps making a type of race / clan type sort of Final Fantasy style - such as Sahagin or Mermaid type people that you'll see or something, idk.)
-> Something that would be kind of cool, too, if you choose this route. Say, when Scatto and Arianne find the book from the woods. Have a cutscene where they kind of explore it's contents showing you sort of what the races look like. I'm thinking something kind of like FFTA's intro, like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6gRKrqNTDw
Just skip ahead to 6:30 or so in this video. I think it was a really neat way to flip through the book and make it interesting. Seems like something definatley possible for you with your art style, and would look cool and unique.

*Your dialogue is kind of interesting, and I can tell you put thought behind what they say based on their personality.

Overall, I say keep up the good work smile.gif I look forward to seeing what you can do with it.
Twidge
Thank you for the review! smile.gif
I'm very glad you liked the voices and art! And yeah, I am considering cutting down the VA to important scenes and battle only.
I actually wasn't aware of those passability bugs, so thank you for bringing them to my attention biggrin.gif
And, for the Relic itself, I want it to be revealed little by little what it does, where it is, and what its true purpose is.
But, that little snippet at the beginning doesn't sound like a bad idea smile.gif

and, both the races died out (well... most of them) so you won't see them very often, but they do have defining physical elements to their appearance smile.gif
OranGemeo
What do I do on the room with the switch in Django's cave? Where you pushed the rock to reach it. (On my previous thread, the second screenshot). The rock makes some kind of explosion around it but nothing appears to happen.
Twidge
..really? Hmm... i don't know anything about an explosion... but, you're supposed to push the rock using Z and SHIFT + Z to the water below the switch, and then you jump onto the rock and pull the switch

Very Special Update 7/14/11

So, over the past few months, I've been working on making something special for the ending of Relic. An orginal (sort of) Song for the End Credits, with vocals and such. Today, that work has finally come to a close, and we have the final product.
I'm very proud to show the original Relic Credits Song, titled "The Time Travel" with vocals by Monisstar. (check out her songs and subscribe to her on youtube, she's an amazing singer!)

This is actually a cover of the song, but it is the first one ever done in English.

Here is the song smile.gif http://soundcloud.com/plpgma/relic-credits/s-RnZXD

Credits:
Vocal ~ Monisstar
Background ~ Angelo Cicero
Lyrics ~ Ann Sally
English Translation ~ Meari-chan

So there it is smile.gif I hope you all enjoy it as much as I am.
I'm also going to take the time now, to say something. I think, once Relic is finally finished, I'm going to be leaving. I never really intended Relic to get as big as it did, but It did, and I couldn't be happier smile.gif But, it is very stressful making this game, along with everything going on in my life. So, I am just going to say that Relic will most likely be my last RPG Game. I realize I have Markon's Epic Adventure up, but theres a chance that might be canceled, I'm not too sure yet.
The only way I'd consider doing another game is if I got a high enough demand for a sequel to Relic. Sorry if this dissapoints anybody, but thats how it is. However, I will stick around until the end of Relic, which could be a little while smile.gif

ALSO: Quick little update. Relic is now available on rpgmaker.net

I haven't played the game, but I listened to the Relic Credits song and it's actually rather good. I like it a lot! I think it might actually make me go and download the game!
Twidge
Hey, glad you like the credits song! My friend did a wonderful job on it smile.gif
And yeah, you should download the game! It's jolly good fun tongue.gif
Penguin
I'm gonna give this a try. Looks really fun. smile.gif
The Law G14
I tried the game out a while back, but I forgot to comment lol laugh.gif Well anyway, it was a really fun game to be honest, and I thought the front-view battle system would be boring. However, the way you pulled everything off by not making encounters completely random and making battles cooler with nice sound effects and a great battle music made it much better smile.gif However, you probably already know this, but nearly every text box had the words cut off on the side. I don't know if you fixed that or not yet, but just to let you know. The art was also really good, but it was a bit inconsistent as well. Some graphics would be really hight quality and others not too much. Overall though, nice game you have here. Good luck with further production of it biggrin.gif

Relic has been previewed.

See the topic here!

Hey all!
I've got an epic piece of music for you all smile.gif

Now, for this piece of music, I'm not spoiling anything, but I have the incredibly epic Final Battle music.

Please enjoy smile.gif I can't wait until this is used in the game smile.gif
Hirei
I would suggest cleaning up the battlers a bit more by the way. For instance I notice that the bats have white around the outlines...
Adrien.
I agree with Hirei how ever with that said you are doing an excellent job on this game. keep up the good work biggrin.gif
Twidge
Well, thanks adrien biggrin.gif I appreciate the kind words! I'll work on cleaning up the battlers!

CHAPTER 2 HAS ARRIVED

Snap me down! Could it be??
Yes that's right! Chapter 2 has finally arrived, ready to be downloaded, played, and enjoyed!
Like before, I have a Non-VA and a VA version!
But, new to the downloads, is a feature to directly play from the start of Chapter 2.
This is for those of you who have played through Chapter 1 already, and don't want to have to start all over. Just copy your old save file over, and enjoy!!
Sorry to say though, there is no Non-VA version just yet. So, if you really don't want to hear the VA, you'll have to wait a bit longer

Chapter's 1+2 Demo

Chapter 2 Only Demo

Chapter 2 includes:[/b]
~ No more Text cut off problems! (In Chapter 2, that is.... They sill exist in Chapter 1)
~ Much, MUCH more humor!
~ New Characters, such as Cogg, Fuega, and General Gilles!
~ Radical Cameos, like Alvaro Frasier from Origin, and the infamous Ralph!
~ Farm and Picture Book Mini-games coming in a later patch!
~ A Bank ran by Mooses! What more can you ask for?

So, enjoy everyone!! It was very fun to make! Well, now on to Chapter 3, the 2nd longest chapter in the game -_-
Twidge
Hey! I updated the links, so they actually work now... But any feedback on Chapter 2?
Twidge

Hey all!
Got a screen of the main hub world, that will be released in Chapter 3!
The main city is called Venchi City, and is heavily based off of Venice, with european architecture and canals.

Hopefully Chapter 3 will be released soon! I'm hoping that maybe in 2012, Relic will be completed, but no promises. 7 Chapters is quite a lot tongue.gif

CHAPTER 3 RELEASED
Yes, Chapter 3 has finally arrived!
There are two different demos, as before. One starting from Chapter 3, and one in which you can play all three right from the begining,
However, it has come to my attention that copying your save file over will not work, so you will have to start fresh with all gold, items, and experience. :(
I'm very sorry for this, but it just cannot be done.
A No-Voice Acting version will be released within the near future as well.

Chapter 1-3 Demo

Chapter 3 Only Demo
https://rapidshare.com/files/1536648887/Relic_Ch_3.rar

Chapter 3 includes:
~Neo-Message System 3, which completely eliminates all text cut-off problems from all chapters.
~New Characters, such as Lorenzo, Antoine Vivinci, and the dark and mysterious Lord Shang.
~Exotic new locations, such as the stunning city of Venchi, and the eastern kingdom of Fargoff.
~More Humor (Of course) But more serious and emotional scenes as well.

Enjoy Chapter 3, everyone! Any problems pop up, let me know :) I look forward to your feedback!
And now to start on Chapter 4, my hands down favorite chapter in the game :D Get ready for a whole chapter focused on our favorite feathered-friend, Peeko!

Twidge
Is it just me, or is this site dead...?
I dunno, nothing seems to happen here anymore..
Strawberry
Yeah, trust me, I've made several updates for my game here, and I don't get much feedback either. It's quite... Dis-heartening... ;_;

I've played your game, and I like the custom artwork and voice acting! I don't remember much, however... I think something happened and I got confused, lols.

Your plot about a songstress, actually inspired my plot about a songstess. *shifty eyes*

Well good luck! Maybe when I'll play your game again and see what happened. smile.gif

Update 4/3/12
~Slow Progress + Art~

Hey all! Not much to update in, but just verifying that I'm still alive, and Relic is making progress. Slwo, but steadily, Chapter 4 is being completed.
Expect some new screens and an actual update within the next two weeks.

In the mean time, enjoy this beautiful piece of artwork by kureo95. She's helping out in creating some of the art for certain cutscenes.
This particular scene depicts the first boss battle in which Scatto, Arianna, and Peeko fight against Django for the necklace.
Enjoy!

Freank
Very good concept art !
Do you use this draw also in the gameplay ?
Or it's only for your storyboard ?
lethitax
Hmm, did you take the downloads off or did the links expire?

The files aren't found for either chapters 1-3 with voices or Chapter 3 only.
