Lunarea
Thank you.

You can find my resources here.

You....are....awesome, Lunarea!

I know they will help me! :33 I really like them all, but the Church/Market Town Addons is just awesome! And the cave floaty rocks are magical looking too! And that clock tree is spooky xD

Thanks for posting them, Lunarea! I can't wait to see others smile.gif
Lunarea
Thank you.
MagitekElite
Your spriting and work is beautiful! And I needed a tileset for a church in my game too, so this was really helpful. And that new cave add-on helps me too. I needed some way for people to climb up a hole and I couldn't find the right ladder, so this rock seems more appropriate, especially since the cave has been sealed for hundreds of years!

Another good job smile.gif
Holder
Brilliant, thanks for the submissions. You certainly work quickly miner.gif

How do you go about doing these by the way? The style appears to match well with the RTP so I'm presuming it's cuts and edits upon those, but there's certain things you do which suggest some are from scratch.
Which programs do you prefer to use and how'd you manage to get the pixel like shade rather than a AA styled lines with such a high colour count?

laugh.gif sorry as you can probably guess I can get quite curious when it comes to things like this.
Ganstaquay5000
Those are so amazing... If I was still using the RTP graphics I would've included some of those.
lyla2284
Ah.. yes. Luna. I've always admired your work ( along with Celianna's stuff over at rpgmakervx.net, that site is so lucky to have two extremely talented artists like yourselves over there. I work with VX as well, and I just go by a different name at that forum. smile.gif ) You are indeed a masterful spriter, and more people should look at your game, Twice Upon a Hero. It looks like really great stuff.

Two thumbs up.

@Holder:
I have gotten a lot faster with practice, but the XP spriting has been done throughout last year. I just never posted it in many places.
I use Photoshop 7.0 (a very old version back from when I was in school. Does that date me, or what?). I do all my work on separate layers (base layer, overlapping items, more overlapping items, etc), then merge them all together. The tools I use are the pencil tool, paint bucket fill and magic wand - all of which have anti-aliasing off. When layering pieces, I put the opacity of the shadow to 50% wherever 2 objects overlap. It's a quick & easy way to do object shadows. I also did some icon resizing, which was very useful in learning how to sprite minuscule objects. Both of those increase the color count, but preserve pixel shading.
As for pixel shading itself, it's mostly about layering palette colors and dithering to soften the lines. It helps to work out in high zoom (my Photoshop goes up to 1600%, and I often work on that level) and zoom out periodically to check progress. My biggest hang-up when I was starting out was getting used to the contrast. Pixel art has much higher contrast than traditional art (which has many transitional values vs no values in pixel). So, I did quite a bit of work with the RTP palette (including heavy editing), even when it wasn't always my aesthetic.
I hope that answered your questions :3

@Ganstaquay5000:
Thank you. Even though I'm working with a different style at the moment, I still keep these around. You never know when a side project will pop into your head and good ol' RTP will be just the thing for graphics. wink.gif

@lyla2284:
Thanks! I really appreciate your kind words. Which name do you use on the other forums? I'm so unoriginal, I just use the same name everywhere XD
And thanks for mentioning my project. I'm working hard on some new content that should be out sometime next week (fingers crossed!).
MagitekElite
Lunarea! Oh the new stuff is beautiful! I really, really, really love the lamp-posts! They are so lovely! They remind me of the 1800s xD

And I love those bookshelves! And the windows and little love boats are amazing T.T

You always make the pretty things. :33

Another good job!

(wow, thought I was the only one who worked on separate layers ohmy.gif)
Lunarea
Layers are really useful, because they make mistakes less likely. :3
MagitekElite
Beautiful! Beautiful! Those trees are amazing! And you made the palm trees look hundreds better! The little branches adds to it! Makes it more Realistic! tongue.gif
se7en
Stunning. These are quiet impressive, and actually go along really well with the RTP. I'm definitely going to end up using some of these one way or another.
Xeyla
Seeing these makes me sad, because i do not own RMXP. They are beautiful tiles, and i'm wondering if i can convert them to VX.
LaDestitute
Really like the blue crystal orb statues, the gothic windows, and the floating islands is an interesting thing.
Lunarea
@se7en:
Thanks! I'm glad you like them and can't wait to see how you'll end up using them.

@Xeyla:
You probably could make them into tilesets for VX, especially if you take other XP RTP tiles and characters to compliment them. If you go with the Parallax mapping route, then you don't even need to worry about setting most of them in the right format XD
I'm working on a VX project at the moment, but I still do some mapping in XP. Multi-layers for tilesets are just so much better to map with.

@LaDestitute:
Thank you! It's funny, each of those pieces was my favorite at one time or another. I'll try to do some mapping with them at some point. It might give me ideas about what else I could sprite.
MagitekElite
Those are great, Lunarea! :33

The cave pieces adds a lot to the RTP, especially if someone wants to make a map that has a straight bridge xD
Xeyla
I have a question:
Are these trees not supposed to have a shadow? or am i looking at them the wrong way?
Drkmttr2007
Excellent work thumbsup.gif this should help our games look alot better, keep it up smile.gif
darkhalo
Absolutely gorgeous happy.gif . Do scout those other sprites youv'e made and share. Am looking forward to seeing more
and yes, these will do any Rmxp user proud.
Last time I really drooled over any RTP style tilesets/add ons were by Venetia, (did half kaiser type too) who seemed
to get the palette colours just right. Well, lovely work here too, and keep them coming !
Lunarea
I love tree houses :3
MagitekElite
That's awesome! Better than my treehouse T.T

I love tree houses as well smile.gif

May I ask something though? How did you go about making that? ohmy.gif
Lunarea
I have Photoshop, so it's all done in layers - though you can use any art program that supports layers.

I took the forest tree and cut off the shadow and the trunk. That became a base (layer 1) on which I layered the house.

I made the little house, which was a lot of erasing, copy-pasting and a few small retouches (layer 2). The door was made from one of the windows in the forest town set. The skylights are just tilted regular windows from the same set (just keep moving up sections of the pixels to match the angle).

I put the house on the topiary. It looked kind of flimsy, so I went back to layer 1 and added some volume (more copy pasting).

Then I went back to the house layer and added an elongated trunk from the big tree (layer 3). Besides copy-pasting, I smoothed out some pixels so it didn't look choppy. I added a ladder on top of that.

Lastly, I used the lasso tool which allows you to select various shapes and cut out some pieces of the topiary (layer 4). They went on a layer above the house, so they're obscuring the house and ladder a bit.

Hit save, uploaded and posted here. biggrin.gif

Wow these are simply fantastic and will get a lot of use in my game. They are easily up to a par with the standard of spriting in the RTP and really help to make RTP maps look a little bit different.

I look forward to seeing anything else you share smile.gif
MagitekElite
Oh wow! Thank you for the explanation, Lunarea! :33
Neva
Do i have use a tileset merger to put these in my game or events?
MagitekElite
You could add it to the tileset. I don't think they will work properly with the bigger pieces. All you have to do is make sure the width is 256. smile.gif
Amy Pond
Hey, I did exactly the same thing with the church roof a while back tongue.gif good to see someone else do the same, because I thought mine looked weird. It looks a lot nicer on yours.

These are pretty nice, always nice to see good addons like these.
