Full Version: Save the World? How about end it. :)

This idea is based loosely off world-ending prophecies. It's fairly popular now-a-days for obvious reasons, so I was thinking what if you started out with a regular hero in a regular, steam-punk/gaslight fashioned world, as there would have to be some form of Mass Communication to pull this off.

In this world you start out as an ordinary person, with friends, acquaintances and a family. Nothing special. Eventually, as events transpire in a short period of time, you realize by some religious figure close to you or by some other means, that you have all the markings to be the Prophet who ends the world. It's nothing evil, rather it's like a cleansing process that will shake the foundation of this world. Floods, disaster, earthquakes, events similar to the rapture. But many people dislike the idea, very many. A lot of people have a stake in how the world is and want it to stay the same, or are fearful and opposed, wanting technology to save them.

And what of your friends, do they support you and stay by your side knowing that you will bring the world crashing down. Will they stand by your side as people throw garbage at you, hunt you, and ultimately try to end your life? You have very few supporters. It's about coming to grips with what you must do, the judgment society has placed on you, and maintaining friendships and your sense of self. It's about responsibility and ideals and choosing what is right and wrong and carrying through with it.

You stand against the world, never having asked for this, isolated, as your power grows. What will be the ultimate fate that you take upon yourself, and will you truly fulfill the ancient texts?

I haven't thought of a protagonist or any side characters. No big ideas, just a general concept. Rather I felt it was interesting to explore with its many psychological and sociological themes worth investigating and playing with. I feel the story could have multiple endings, and would really generate rapport for the character.

I am taking on a lot of stories between my massive plotline for a world, and some other game projects not done within this community, on top of my drawing and work. If anyone wants to use this go ahead, I'll gladly hep further this idea, but I thought I'd throw it out there since it seems like it has a ton of potential.

You're right- it does have a ton of potential.

That idea certainly is awesome. If a talented developer took it on, the product would be amazing. However, I can see a lousy developer trying to use that idea and messing it up, ruining it. Integrating something as epic in scale as that into a game would be rather complex (depending on how the game is made).

Were to use this project, I would recommend checking out Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together (just look up the alignment system of that game), because the flow of that game is altered based on critical decisions you make. For example, early in the game you are ordered to massacre a town. If you do it, people will hate you for the rest of the game and if you don't, then you lose a big battle. It's incredible, and I think emulating such an alignment system would be a great feature for a game with the concept you've introduced.

I could certainly see the potential behind a system like that in a game like this. There is definitely a place for it in a game with this theme.

I also believe one could incorporate alignment with different factions, religious groups, or organizations.

Ogre Battle has always been a series I found interesting and enjoyable. However I don't think I've heard of Let Us Cling Together.

I think the game has both a ton of potential in both the story-telling aspect and the game-play aspect. It can be done a number of ways. I don't think you can do both at a very high capacity for this though. But fortunately it can be adapted and redone in many different ways.

Hopefully a good developer goes with this idea. I think the most I could do with it right now is offer writing, plot and design for it, but that's it. Certainly I don't need to be that person. A number of people could do that.
