well...i only instaaled one...ill do the rest right now and see.

I just went to your font folder in the game demo and installed all ten or eleven of them.
btw the fonts look awesome!
Would u mind if I use them in other games (non-Zelda ones)?
SilentResident
@ShinGamix

I agree, the fonts look awesome! That's why I included them in Project Zelda Engine! And no, I don't mind using them in other non-zelda games. Feel free to do so! Enjoy!
Donutdude
Appreciate the help.
Is there anyway you could tell me what
"Script is Hanging" Means?
I didn't screw with anything, I swear. biggrin.gif
It's maddening knowing there's a Zelda engine that good and my computer won't let me play it yet mad.gif
Resource Dragon
For your first post, silent, i would recommend the use of some spoilers.

for the topic in general, i would say good job! thumbsup.gif Many have tried to make an Rpg Maker VX Zelda Starter Kit and failed.
Since its a starter kit, does that mean all the sprites, sounds, music, scripts, and what not are available for use outside of the maker?

@ donutdude: If you get the error "the script is hanging" it means its taking to long to load. ussually if rmvx doesnt load within 10 seconds, it cancels itself and shuts down. try to run it without any other windows open.
Donutdude
@Prelude Dikter

Now I know what that means biggrin.gif Thanks...but still, it insists on saying the script is hanging...in more detail, as soon as the RGSS Player opens, I begin to hear the Title Music, but I don't see any visuals. This is immediately followed by the RGSS Player becoming unresponsive, and THEN the "script is hanging" Message appears...is there any possible way to fix that? Or am I just screwed until the next update comes?
It's still good to know that it's not my computer that's just being slow, though.
SilentResident
@ Prelude Dikter: Thanks man! biggrin.gif

I didn't knew that people tried to create a Project Zelda Engine for VX. Too bad to hear that it failed. How comes?

I guess VX is not so good setup for the creation of Zelda Games, due to its bad Mapping tools, and other downgrades compared to XP? ohmy.gif

About spoilers: what spoilers you are talking about? biggrin.gif

About the resources: All the resources you find in Project Zelda Engine, are allowed to be used outside of it, but don't claim them as yours. Give credits to their authors, if they request it. You can find them on net, by googling for Zelda sprites, music, tilesets, etc.

@ donutdude: "Script is Hanging" is an error that happened to several players at the past, in various demos, including to players who tried to play Project Zelda Engine. Sadly, I don't know of any way how to solve it. But some ideas come in my mind: if you try move your Project Zelda Engine to a different Hard Disk driver, or if you set the Project Zelda Engine's compatibility settings to "Run in Compatibility Mode with Windows XP Service Pack 2" may help as well.

EDIT: Another idea!!!!! laugh.gif Run Project Zelda, go to Script Editor, delete the Auto Font Install script, save and close the Project Zelda Engine.
Then go to its folder directory and find the Fonts Folder. Install all the fonts you see inside, by just double-clicking them, and try play the game.
I hope this fixes the "Script is Hanging" Error.

Let me know if it has been fixed.
Donutdude

Unfortunately, it still won't work. I deleted the script and everything. In case you were wondering (you probably weren't but I'll tell you anyway), I use Windows 7. I'll upload a video for you (It won't be in HQ, the max upload size is 2 MB) of what happened, although it probably won't tell you anything you don't already know. Could there be a problem with the "$msg = Hermes_Global_Settings.new" and/or the "$game_party.add_actor(1)" script that could be causing the problem (just because I get stuck at startup, maybe one of those is the one that is "Hanging")...
On another note, thanks for including those Font styles. I've actually been looking for those. biggrin.gif
I could get a friend to download it and see if they have the same problems, if you want. I'm sure I could find a few that would be willing to try it out.
SilentResident
@Donutdude
I'm using Windows 7 as well. But no problems here, at all. I am surprised you appointed the "$msg = Hermes_Global_Settings.new" as possible cause of the problem, because I was thinking the same now. The "$msg = Hermes_Global_Settings.new" has a bad history, full of troubles.

As you see, the Updated Project Zelda Engine comes with a much better Message system than the old PZ did. I replaced the old message system with an evoluted version of it, the Hermes.

I will ask for a scripter to look at it and see how can we deal with it.
Donutdude
@SilentResident

Just a completely random thought here, but since most of the scripts in the program are within the 100-1000 line range, whereas the Hermes script has, like, 2500 lines. Earlier I learned that the whole "script is hanging" could mean that it is taking too long to load the script. Maybe the script is too long? Or not? I'm no scripting professional, just trying to be observant wink.gif
ShinGamix
What was the last thing you did before the script started hanging Silent? Maybe make a duplicate copy and reverse remove stuff until it works again. but make sure you do this in a copy!
SilentResident
@ShinGamix

I can't answer this. As I, unfortunately, or fortunately, am one of the "lucky" players who never had that error "Script is Hanging".
Project Zelda Engine runs perfectly for me and for my 3 friends, and thus, making it hard for us to see when the problem begins.

But I can tell with sure that the script is hanging error happened after the addition of Hermes to Project Zelda Engine.

So far, we know only that the Script is Hanging error is purely random: does happens on random players. It has nothing to do with computers (how good your PC or old is). I estimate that about 30% of the people who try Project Zelda Engine get this error.

The first reports by people about "Script is Hanging" error, came 1 year ago, when I uploaded Project Zelda Engine (with Hermes in it of course) here:
http://www.rpgrevolution.com/forums/index....showtopic=47735

EVERYONE WHO GOT THE SCRIPT IS HANGING ERROR, PLEASE READ:

I have come in contact with the author of Hermes. Derula will investigate this matter probably at this weekend
He in meantime asked if can someone who has the bug to add the following line to the beginning and end of the Hermes script and see if it fixes the error:
CODE
Graphics.update

Please let us know if this fixes the issue.
lambo freak
this looks nice. a lot of work has gone into this!
SilentResident
@lambo freak
3 whole years of work are gone into the Project Zelda Engine.

It was funny to update the Project Zelda Engine and add more features to it!. I tell you! biggrin.gif

I love having the opportunity to create my own Zelda games with a tool like Project Zelda Engine. But good games require good tools. Thats the reason I "decided" to update Project Zelda Engine: to make it a better tool!

I highly appreciate your support, guys!

Good news:

Soon, the new Update Patch #2 will be released.

It adds more features to Project Zelda Engine:

All the houses of Kakariko Village get house interiors!

The Weather System and the Day/Night System have been revamped so they no longer apply weather effects inside the houses (such as rain and snow inside the houses with roofs. Snowing inside the house? no way! laugh.gif
Fearoftheunknown
Wow. Im impressed. You've put a lot of work into this. Hope you don't give it up, and good luck in the future.!
ShinGamix
Yea! Interior House! woo who!
and I found out my windows 7 is picky when it comes to RPG Maker. I assume the script errors PROB have something to do with that or the driver updates one.

Nice Work Silent!!!
Please let me know when the next version hits!!! CNT WAIT!

NEWS!
====================================================
excl.gif THE UPDATE PATCH #2 FOR PROJECT ZELDA ENGINE HAS BEEN RELEASED! excl.gif
The Update Patch 2, for Updated Project Zelda Engine, fixed almost all of the bugs and problems that are found in old Project Zelda Engine in the past 3 years, making the Project Zelda Engine almost perfect! The Update Patch 2 features:
  • Fix for Invisible text Bug in the Input Character Name Screen, at the beginning of the game, where you are asked to give Link a name. (Technical bug). (A big thanks to Night Runner for his help to fix it biggrin.gif )
  • Fix for Animation Priority Bug for the Ocarina's songs, on the maps. (Graphic bug). (Again, thanks to Night Runner for his help to fix it)
  • Fix for Ice Rod Bug (Weapon), which does not freezes the foes. (Eventing bug).
  • Fix for Auto-Font install script's failure. Script is removed, players now have to manually install any fonts for their game.)
  • New Item/Weapon added to Project Zelda Engine: The Magic Powder, which, actually, is the upgrade for the Mysterious Mushroom, and has several uses in the game. It can even be used as a weapon, however, it does not kills the enemies by any normal means; it just transforms them into something different which can be fatal for the monster's health. The Magic Powder, also, can lift curses from various innocent people, or can make them to regain their original status/form they somehow lost it - by force or accidentally-. This item, also is vital for Link to be able to upgrade his Magic Meter (much like as does in Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past), which makes this item far from being useless in-game!
  • Improvements for HUD: HUD will receive further improvements.
  • Added Door Zoom, a feature from Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past has been added to Project Zelda Engine.
  • Added house interiors for all the houses of Kakariko Village.
  • The Weather System and the Day/Night System have been revamped, so they no longer apply any rain/snow/day/night effects inside the interiors of the houses (that's the meant of a house having roofs! To protect it from rain and snow!)
  • Others: An ancient monolith (a stone tablet with the ancient Hylian Language's hieroglyphics carved on it) has been added to the Kakariko Graveyard's area, and can only be read with the Book of Mudora. This is the opportunity for the players to playtest the Book of Mudora and see how this book works.
ShinGamix
Thank heavens! You put in what I wanted!!! (Jump for joy)

Just thought of something else.

1. Do you have the "push block" in the game engine? I love push Block puzzles!
2. I didn't see the hook-shot? I seen a post about one that was working somewhere. Might be VX though. I am not sure if it's RGSS 1 or 2.
3. Couldn't the ice-rod "enemy freeze" be fixed by using a switch or variable when the "freeze beam" hits the enemy/target?
4. Do you have the floor step switches working? Was wondering if push block would work if set on the switch?

Thanks as always!
Do you Understand?
Yes / No

@ShinGamix

1) Its already in. Haven't you checked the events in Event Database? smile.gif
If a feature is not present in the Kakariko Village (example map), does not means that the feature is not in game. Check Event Database and you will find the Pushable block.

2) Hookshot is already in. What you mean you didn't have seen it? unsure.gif
One of the new house interiors has Piece of Heart Container which requires Hookshot to be reached.

3) Ice Rod's bug already is fixed. Now the weapon works 100% fine. Yes, if you ask for the cause of the bug, is that I forgot to add a switch/variable to the enemy's event about the Ice Rod's freezing ball. biggrin.gif

4) What floor steps? You mean stair steps? I can't do that myself without help (at least the outdoor stairs). If can someone find a scripter for me, I will be able to make it! biggrin.gif
EDIT: by the way, I added, with the last patch, the house stairs to the interiors of the Kakariko Village's houses, and their floors are connected via them. Go try them, you will love how Link steps on the stairs to get to the other floors of a house or dungeon! Much like the same as in Link to the Past.

Future Plans / Future Additions to Project Zelda Engine:
====================================================
    With the future Update Patches, the Project Zelda Engine will get further improvements and expansions:
  • Inventory Menu: will be revamped and have its window skin finished.
  • Itens in the Inventory Menu will be re-organized.
  • New (possible) weapon added to Project Zelda Engine (This may change in future): The Magic Cape which makes Link invisible in the eyes of the enemies. (Requires Magic Meter)
  • New (possible) weapon added to Project Zelda Engine (This may change in future): The Bombos Medallion which gives Link the power to send out a ring of fire, followed by a series of small explosions in all directions. (Consumes Magic Meter, it affects all the regular monsters in a zone)
  • New (possible) weapon added to Project Zelda Engine (This may change in future): The Ether Medallion which gives Link the power to call for Ether attacks through the atmosphere, causing most enemies who aren't destroyed by the initial pulse of lightning and pressure, to be frozen, as if they were struck by the Ice Rod. Flying enemies can even be killed instantly, as they are very vulnerable to ether attacks. (Consumes Magic Meter, it affects all the regular monsters in a zone)
  • New (possible) weapon added to Project Zelda Engine (This may change in future): The Quake Medallion which gives Link the power to cause an Earthquake, resulting from Link thrusting the Master Sword into the ground below him. It only affects ground-bound enemies, generally either destroying them or turning them into weak Slimes. (Consumes Magic Meter, it affects all the regular ground monsters in a zone)
  • New (possible) item added to Project Zelda Engine (This may change in future): Masks which can be worn by Link and allow him to receive different interactions by various people he talks with.
  • New (possible) item added to Project Zelda Engine (This may change in future): Bottles which lets Link to store potions, items and fairies in them, allowing him to save them for later uses.
  • Fix a rare bug, where, sometimes, when entering or exiting a house in Kakariko Village, game may close unexpectedly as you enter or exit a house interior. This bug comes with Update Patch 2 and has to do with eventing issues. I'm working to fix it. (Eventing bug)

NOTE: I will not have internet access for the next couple of days, as I will not be at home, due to some duties. I wish you have fun and I will read all your messages when I will be back.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

A NOTE TO EVERYONE WHO HAS DOWNLOADED THE UPDATE PATCH 2:

EDIT: I have noticed an issue with the Update Patch 2 I uploaded yesterday for you, guys: the weather and day/night take 1-2 seconds LONGER to apply to the outdoor map (such as Kakariko Village and Kakariko Graveyard) when you exit a house/interior. 1-2 seconds may be not that much, but it can be rather disturbing and ruin the game experience. For this I could upload a new version of Project Zelda Engine with this issue fixed. But because its size is over 128 MB and takes over 40 minutes to upload it to a hosting site such as Mediafire, etc, I am afraid, can't upload it today, as I don't have so much time such as 40 minutes. I must go Bus station in 10 minutes.

But when I will be back at home in 3-4 days, I will upload a fixed version of Update Patch 2 with the weather and day/night systems being applied faster on outdoor maps.

If some of you, guys, want to fix it by yourself, you can try to do so!

Just all what you have to edit in Project Zelda Engine, is the "Startup" Event which is present in both Kakariko Village and Kakariko Graveyard maps, located at the Down Left-most corner of the maps.

Edit the Startup Event and re-arrange the order the variables/switches are listed in it so to fix this issue.

Move the "Which is the Current Season for this map?" (including its variables/switches) and the "Which is the Default Season for this map?" (again, including its variables/switches) to be BENEATH the "Are Storms allowed to be activated in this map?".

If you do that successfully, then the new order could look like:

Is this a Dungeon?
Is this an Indoor map?
Is Time Flow allowed in this map?
Are Storms allowed to be activated in this map?
Which is the Current Season for this map?
Which is the Default Season for this map?

Is Link performing an action from a previous map?
Update the HUD and set the Windowskin.

By applying this order as I have showed you above, the Time system and the weather system will be applied much faster when you exit an interior to go to an outdoor map.

Also, good idea is to add a Wait: 1 frame(s) between the "Is Time Flow allowed in this map?" and the "Are Storms allowed to be activated in this map?", and one more between the "Are Storms allowed to be activated in this map?" and the "Which is the Current Season for this map?"
so to ensure it will work better and more smoothly. After you are done, It could look like:

Is this a Dungeon?
Is this an Indoor map?
Is Time Flow allowed in this map?
Wait: 1 frame(s)
Are Storms allowed to be activated in this map?
Wait: 1 frame(s)
Which is the Current Season for this map?
Which is the Default Season for this map?

Is Link performing an action from a previous map?
Update the HUD and set the Windowskin.

If this small (issue I call it in my opinion) delay on weather/time effects on map doesn't bothers you at all, then, you can ignore it, and wait for me to do the fix and upload a fixed new version of Update Patch 2 when I return to home.

Have good day!
ShinGamix
Dear Silent,

Sorry bout my dumb dumb questions. I don;t have much time on my hands either. You are doing a great job! Can you add to the Magic Cape where it does a spin and strikes enemies? That would be cool and are the staffs in here? and you should make it where the bottles can be broken...lol and are u possibly going to add any of the Items from Windwaker? Just an idea. I will see what I can do about the stairway animation oh and don't forget those dam peskie Living Floor Tiles that Launch thierself at Link. um...I want to make a Item Combine menu for ur update. Imagine combine Horse and pegesus boots. Zoooom. Horse and bombs?...omg! ROFLMA. Again great work.
SilentResident
I am back! I am gonna upload the fixed version of Project Zelda Engine where the Day/Night is applied faster to the game's outdoor map, when player exits a house/interior.
I will make tomorrow those uploads, and I apologize again for waiting time, I was kinda busy last days with my duties.

@ShinGamix

The Magic Cape does no spins nor strikes the enemies at all. Are you sure you don't mean Cane of Byrna?

What Wind Waker items? Can you be more specific?
CrayDragon
This...this is awesome. owo

Too bad a majority of the newbs from the other forums I'm in haven't seen this.
Their Zelda fangames could actually mean something!

No I mean could u ADD it to the cape? So it spins and attack likes mario's cape in Super Mario World?

What Wind Waker items? Can you be more specific?
The Hover Leaf,...etc

PLEASE EVERYONE WHO HAS DOWNLOADED PROJECT ZELDA ENGINE PRIOR TO Thursday 20 January 2011, TO RE-DOWNLOAD IT!

Some minor bugs have been fixed now, including the endless rain, the 1-2 second delay on weather/daytime effects on outdoor maps when Link exits an indoor map (house, etc).
SilentResident
@ShinGamix

This is Project Zelda Engine, not Super Mario Engine, I am not planning to add an item to Project Zelda Engine if that item has not been seen in any official Zelda games.

Deku Leaf? Are you sure we are talking about Project Zelda Engine? Because Deku Leaf is very very hard to add to it due to RPG Maker XP's hardcore limits. At least not without scripts.

The Leaf cannot be added due to the RPG Maker XP's hardcore limits about how tile system works (tiles cannot be moved) - making the Deku Leaf partially useless.

If I was able to add it, I could have already done that long time ago...
Xeyla
this is such a good presenation of resources, it makes me want to buy RMXP just to make a game. biggrin.gif
These things look so nice. Great job getting it all together!
SilentResident
@Xeyla

Hehe, thats my goal, to make it a set of resources for everyone to have for free! biggrin.gif

By the way, I have updated the Tilesets to look a lot better now:

TILESET COMPARISSIONS:

-Autumn Season BEFORE the update

-Autumn Season AFTER the update

-Winter Season BEFORE the update

-Winter Season AFTER the update

-Spring Season BEFORE the update

-Spring Season AFTER the update

-Summer Season BEFORE and AFTER the update
Summer remains the same.

Enjoy!
Chakanevil
Not to be a buz kill but it is still lagging just like the older version, and the time between screen is a few seconds, maybe you should look into that, my advise would to ask for help from blizard, or moghunter.

any ideas on how to fix the lag?
stripe103
If I'm not all wrong, the system have a great amount of events, and events takes a lot of the system to update, therefore lag on slow computers. Could be wrong though.
Kread-EX
You're completely right. There are around 100 common events and they are loaded on every map, along with the regular events. I do know that Zeriab's antilag, unlike ABSEAL, "purges" the unused ones but even so, this project will require a powerful CPU in order to run smoothly. Mine can't go past 10 FPS (a 2,8 Ghz Pentium D - aging).

That said, the project itself is very impressing. It really feels like Zelda. Deepest congratulations on that, SilentResident.
stripe103
As long as I don't click anywhere or do anything before the title screen, it runs quite good. If I do do something, I usually get a "Not responding.."-message. But when running on the map, it is about 40fps. Gets lowered to 30 sometimes when doing something big, such as changing the map, but otherwise it runs fine. I have a Intel Core i3. Haven't got any other specifications on it since it is my school computer.

But I agree with Kread. SilentResident, you have made a great job. Keep it up! I'd like to see the final result of it biggrin.gif
Chakanevil
I agree with it being impressive, just i wish we could see little or no lag, when i tried to add zerilab anti lag it caused the game to crash, if he could find a way to make most of these events be called from scripts then perhaps it would reduce the lag?

SilentResident
Hehe, indeed, its a good idea to ask some scripters around if they can help reducing the lag, especially for the players with weak and slow computers.

Project Zelda Engine uses lots of resources, and thus, requires decent computers so to run smoothly.

Soon, or late, more improvements are about to come. Improvements in the hud, in the game's speed and lag, etc. the gaming community will have a complete engine to use for the creation of their own Zelda games.

By the way, I am wondering, does anyone likes the animations the ocarina songs show when Link plays a song with it? biggrin.gif
I could love to hear your critics about this and any other improvements you may liked. biggrin.gif

And you are posting this.. why? There already is a working feature in the game that allows you to do what you need. You don't need anything more.

@ MistTribe
If you absolutely aren't doing anything else while the game loads, I think that your computer is too slow. You probably get the error because the game loads too slow, which RMXP notices, and gives you that error. There isn't much to do about it really.

It isn't meant to be an advertisement, it's meant as a form of help, moghunter is a great scripter, maybe he could help reduce lag.

isn't that the ultimate goal to make the system playable for a huge amount of players and not just a small group with a great p.c.

Hello my dear gamers.

Sadly, this error can happen on both fast and slow computers. It is PURELY RANDOM on which computers will it occur. Investigation about this error is still in progress. We are trying to find the cause of it.

Ah my dear friends.

I wish it never happened. This error is a big headdache, because Project Zelda Engine works absolutely fine on my own computer and the computers of my friends...

Too bad. The fact is that this error happens to just a minority of gamers, however, its too important to be ignored. My goal is that 100% of the gaming population will enjoy RPG Maker XP and Project Zelda Engine.

excl.gif THE NEW UPDATE PATCH 3 FOR PROJECT ZELDA ENGINE IS AHEAD!: excl.gif

I am working on a new update for Project Zelda Engine with several new additions to the game!

  • Chickens added to Kakariko Village! - Real chickens that attempt to run away from Link if he is too close to them! Try can catch 'em for profit!
  • New items in the inventory Menu!
  • Updated versions for some of the scripts, with new features!
  • The Inventory Menu is now Complete! You can see quest items, trade items, hearts, equipment, etc, in their own windows!
  • A small graphical bug fix for the Lens of Truth (item)!

Stay tuned! The list of changes that come with UP #3 may be changed in the meantime! Enjoy! tongue.gif

100% is a big number i would say more like 95% since there will still be those running p1, 555 mhz, my idea is to place most of those events in a script and make them trigger when they are needed and not be idling until they are needed, such as the rupee system, instead of calculating how many it should add, and add each rupee +1 untill it reaches 20, 50, 100, which takes a fee seconds the script should run on variables such as a green rupee being variable A, when collected it gives 1 rupee, a red rupee is variable B, it is set to give 5 rupees, with it being preset, the script is connected to the hud, let call it variable C, so when you touch A, C updates to the preset number, and doesn't spend the time to add 1,1,1,1,1, instead it will add 5 all at once, the seasons could be done in scripts too, lets call the over world variable E, let Spring be A, let summer be B, let Fall be C, and let Winter be D, so lets say the default start should be A, so upon changing the season A becomes inactive, it is no longer idle, B becomes Active and updates E. thats the way most of the game should be ran, I was referencing XASABS because a lot of the game is ran with scripts, just how I describe.
SilentResident
@Chakanevil

Yes, I love your idea.

I have already asked around for some help to turn the Rupee System into a script, you can find my "request" here in those forums (titled as the "[The Scripter's Challenge] Replace Common Events with Scripts, Can scripters try make a script that replaces Common Events?")
http://www.rpgrevolution.com/forums/index....mp;#entry472636
but got no response. I have no idea who got time to help make this a reality. :-)

By the way, the Season System to be working as script, is not a good idea. I think that the Eventing is the only way that ensures more and even more people will have easier access to the customization of the Seasons System, due to its flexibility.

If the Seasons System was already a script, I couldn't find an way to modify it, as I don't know how to modify it to fit my own style / game, as some scripting skills / knowledge about how scripts work will be required for the change of the Season System. And there are many players who don't know about scripting, including me, and thus, limiting the customization of Project Zelda Engine's features (if I am not wrong).

Anyways, I doubt that its worth to turn the Season System into script, as, of now, the events are not having any impact to the game's performance. Any performance impacts are limited, as the change occurs when the player is staying on the tree stump, and the game is frozen in time, and the change only takes few seconds.

Do you think am I right? Or can we make the scripts be as good as the events? (I don't know, I hope you say yes, as I could be so happy to hear that a script can do more than an event!!!) biggrin.gif
Chakanevil
I'm still getting script is hanging with hermes, I'm gonna try something

the one that is hanging is default, i can get it to work with out that one

The problem isn't the Hermes script, the problem is the credits script, i changed it to D and arial and it caused it to hang replacing it with None allows me to play the game

Hmmm Thats very interesting. I am very happy now. If someone with the same problem as you, can confirm your comment as a working solution to that issue, then, gladly we can breath now. Because Hermes script is very important for Project Zelda Engine, while the Credits which is "less" important script, can be fixed!

I love you, Chakanevil!

Can someone else with the same issue (Script is Hanging issue I mean) follow Chakanevil's steps and confirm if this works?

Please... If can someone with the same issue confirm this solution, I will be greatly thankful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! laugh.gif
