I know it's a vague question, but I often wonder how much time I should be willing to put off to make a game.

In all seriousness 1000s of hours.

Depends on what depth you intend on making it.

It's possible to make an RPG with literally hours of gameplay in a little over a week with maybe 2 hours of work a day. Of course, it'll be very bland, more travel time than somebody running from Florida to California, and little to no originality.

If you're going for the full games like many of us are working on, or the featured ones on this site, expect it take take about 7-8 months with a full team of people.

Dracorb Legend started in 2005 or 2006 (ask Holder because I might be wrong) and is still in development. And Axerax started to conceive Kaillis something like 10 years ago.
So yeah it depends of how you are imagining your game, and how much time you have.
Feldschlacht IV
I've seen amazing games come out in little under a month of development. It depends on your devotion and how fast you can work and devote.

It depends on a lot of factors, such as ur skill level, how well u know the software, the tools u work with, if u wana make ur own material or do Nintendo and Sony rips, Ho much time u can devote to it, if u have a life crisis, how in depth u want to make it, how long u want to make it, if its a team effort or not, how much help u have, how organized u are, how good ur imagination and ideas are, how well uv thought it out, the online resouces u have access too, and most importntly, if this is ur first game.

Iv been working on my first rpg useing rm2k3 off and on for about 9 years lol. I think its relaxing and helps me de-stress lol smile.gif
