Features
*I tried to go for comedy here. Nothing fancy, just a bit a humor.
*There is also a carry over save point so you can import your data when episode #2 comes out.
*Some of the monsters walk around on the map and come after you, that's kind of cool I think.
*New Class - Shen Ku
*NA8BF Battle system
*Two Original Music Remixes by yours truly.
*Did I mentioned there are sheep?

UPDATED: version 1.014 (on 12/9/2010) (see notes)

You can grab it off the game's web site:

http://na8bf.legendarypower.com/downloads

There also some more info about the game there.

Credits
I did use a battle back script, but the author didn't put his name on it. Who ever you are, I thank thee!
Vixotic & Blockade - additional battle scripts.

Notes
I was about to start playing FFVI for about the Millionth time, then I was like, screw that. I'm going to make a game instead.

**UPDATE ***

Bugs, were found and fixed! There was a glitch that didn't show the end scene ... FIXED!
And the game crashed when your party was annihilated ... FIXED!

Since I had to re-upload anyway, I added the new battle system, new chibi spites, and a few more jokes.

After many complaints about the maps, I did some minor overhaul the to map graphics and added a Battle trainer in the house. This update is mostly cosmetic.

Unless anyone finds a major bug (game crashing/softlocking), There will be no more changes to episode #1.

If anyone enjoyed this game, I'd could really use some art help for episode #2. If there is one thing I'd change, I'd get rid of those packaged graphics.

Alright! Congrats on finishing your first game (even if it not ENTIRELY seriously). biggrin.gif

I like comedy games sometimes, regardless of what the graphics look like.

How long is this game? Either way, I think I might give it a go if I have sometime tonight.

The fastest I've gone through it is about 15 minutes, but exploring every nook and cranny is about 30 - 45 minutes.

I'm going to have to take a gander at this. I love a good comedy game smile.gif Nice work!

Even It's a comedy game- the mapping was awful hat i had to stop after 2 minutes. When you do the next part- please improve the mapping. Maybe I'm a graphics fetishist, but such low level mapping destroys the funniest game...

LOL! The link wasn't broken. I just seemed to have used the "post" tag instead of "url", for some odd reason.

I just fixed it.

I can't see your other screenshots because the link you gave was bad.

While I'm a little dissapointed that the graphic style of the game isn't 8-bit, I love comedy games. I'll check it out when I get the chance.

thanks. Again, same problem. Fixed it.

A far as the graphics. I was going to go 8-bit, but after some research I found out that most new gamers are put off by the old graphics.

The money system in the game is "bits". As in "shave an hair cut ... two bits!"

8-bits = 1 dollar.

It's a $1 game.
Ratty524
Lol.

By the way, the old graphics ordeal isn't necessarily true, depending on your audience. I've found that most games who attempt to "perfectly" imitate the 8-bit games tend to actually get a lot of accolades, but again, it depends on the audience you are trying to go for.

Well, I got the idea cuz I was playing all these xbox indie games that had nes style graphics going on, The latest being breath of death VII.
I was checking out the web site for that, (you should too). and he was showing how he made his graphics look 8-bit, they we're actually far from 8-bit.

Essentially, the difference between 8-bit and 16-bit rpgs is basically non existent. they are both title set graphics. turn based combat.
It when you get to 32-bits that you start to see the real difference. you begin adding 3d-models, or at least simulated 3d (2.5 d) of growing and shrinking sprites behind a hand painted background.

Hopefully, if we can keep true to the classic game play (part of our mission statement), then we wont have too many complaints about our shiny 32-bit graphics. And quite frankly, I'd rather have people complain the graphics are too good then too $#!++y.

I just reviewed the game for my RPG Maker review blog. There's no evidence that there was any effort put into the game. You even ask the players to donate money at the end of the demo, it was a joke.

Thanks for the review rob! Seeing as your top review is 1/2 star (is that out of 4 or 10?) I guess I did pretty good over all! bunny.gif

Reviews are rated out of five stars. The top game so far received ****1/4. Your game got zero. It was not good in any way at all.

The way the internet works, The more websites it is on, the better the search results return on the crawlers. So, there really is no such thing as bad press.

Thanks again for the review!

On a side note though, It's really hard to tell those Astrix are suppose to be stars, That's why I thought your top review was a 1/2 star. You might want to think about using a star graphic (with maybe some empty stars to show potential and half stars) or maybe just writing "4 1/2 out of 5 stars". Just some constructive criticism. (you know, helping people improve their craft, without being rude or negative.)

Firstly, it doesn't say 1/2, it says 1/4, so there is no reason for you to even think it was 1/2 star.

The page says "The games are listed in score order" and then...

the top one says ****1/4
the next one says ***
the next one says **1/4

What else would the asterisks mean?

Alright, enough off topic stuff...

Final Update(knock on wood) - v1.104 - link is the same, see top

After many complaints about the maps, I did some minor overhaul the to map graphics and added a Battle trainer in the house. This update is mostly cosmetic.

Unless anyone finds a major bug (game crashing/softlocking), There will be no more changes to episode #1.

Again, Reviews (for better or worse), and constructive criticism is welcome. The more detail the better.

If you don't like the graphics/maps/music/ect., I am looking for people to help out on episode #2. Think you can do better? you're welcome to it. just send me a message on RRR or email me at the web site.
