With kaz's blessing, I was informed that I should mention 001 here on this forum section. So here I go :).

http://www.engine001.com/

001 is a community supported game creator that remains free though donations that's been in development for quite some time. It is constantly updated, has a friendly community, an easy learning curve, and a complete set of features for creating action / rpgs and platformer games. Features are underway in our beta for point-and-click adventure and 3D games.

The best part is how easy scripting is. Most things are intrinsic, but if you're wanting a big of game logic, this is how you'd go about it:

HUD editing is a breeze, and is quite interactive:

Lighting and fog is simple and pretty:

There's actual depth in games, so making multiple floors is possible:

Character customization is done right within the editing of the map:

Something that seems to be difficult in most makers, is simple - visual character routes:

Particle effects are pretty cool too:

There are plenty of other powerful features...

Sound: playing multiple music tracks at the same time, or placing speaker objects to have sounds positional/3D, with support for plenty of audio formats

Graphics: full support for alpha-blending and soft edges

Collections/Tables: these allow you to store data in very simple ways

Custom Events: allow you to create your own events that you can call from everywhere else, while also customizing what options they'll have

Input Sets: you can easily switch between input sets, which are powerful ways to customize key combinations if you're doing a fighting game for example

The web-site offers many features too...

Games: upload and download games without worry of viruses (as EXEs aren't actually being transferred)

Resources: resources can be shared among users easily, with auto-generated previews and rating system

Tutorials: user-created tutorials about almost any topic, with ratings and search

001 has certainly come along way, especially what they call text scripting. I'm more inclined to say it's a version of objective c or some form of C.
Like RMXP, 001 kind limited the gfx department because they wouldn't let you decide a tiles width/height, that should always be up to the user.

The text scripting has always been there - it's more a form of Visual Basic than anything. We're considering the possibility of other scripting languages, since in the end, it all gets compiled into binary anyway, and supporting more familiar languages wouldn't be too difficult. But definitely not a real priority.

The 32x32 tile size requirement isn't quite set in stone - in fact, a lot of internal code is going away from that, especially now that the engine is all 3D just projected 2D. Also, lower objects can be smaller, so the restriction is currently only in floor tiles. Everything else is already variably sized. In other words, supporting different scaled floor tile-sets is definitely on my to do list smile.gif.

Glad you think it's come a long way, appreciated!

Released a newer version with some actor spawning/creating, custom sprite poses, new map tools, many new scripting features, powerful new triggers and of course bug fixes.

Here are some new screenshots as well:

I'd say the coolest part about this maker that would interest me is the particle system, hands down.

Hands down. For that reason and that reason alone, I am going to download it.
Shadyone
Yeah particles are awesome. How awesome would it be if Enterbrain and YoyoGames worked on a single maker together to form a really awesome kickass RM with all the good features from Game Maker (stupidly simple scripting system, extremely easy graphics enhancement (like particles and fireworks tongue.gif) ) Oh and I've used this engine before, it's ok.. but, I prefer RM and GM

The first screen is so win!

Anyways, Engine 001 seems to have come a long long way since I last used it, however.. the shadows are all facing.. down! I think shadows either should be dynamic or just tiled like everything else.
