So I've got this idea about releasing youtube videos of a comic style anime made using rpgmaker resources. This idea has probably been done but what would you think of the idea. Instead of a game I would release chapters or episodes for people to watch?

So sort of like a visual novel? It's been done before using RPG Maker but I don't think it's been done often. A member here by the name of Hirei has one called Aquae which I haven't gotten around to reading but it looks super awesome. My game for the first competition was something of an interactive visual novel, which failed horribly. The story received praise but the gameplay was bland. lol
So while it has been done, if the plot is interesting enough and the art style is good, I'm sure it'll take off.

Lol. A few years ago, I used First Seed Material Charactersets and RM2k3 weapons to make comic strips about these few players in an MMORPG. I actually feel like doing it again now that you reminded me of it.

Sweet well I'm glad that this method would be interesting. I'm not too good at creating balanced rpg maker games but a plot is something I can do. I guess I'm gonna get to work on it then now I see it's possible. Albino keep me up to date I'd like to see it too and I'm glad I put you in the mood. I'll look into Aquae too Satou, give me a link for your game too I'd also like to see it. It will give me some ideas on how this is done...

Thanks guys I'm going to get to work now biggrin.gif

Plot is my specialty too. lol This is the download link to my game: http://www.mediafire.com/?a4td3503cxv4icb
There wasn't an official topic about it but feedback can be found here: http://www.rpgrevolution.com/forums/index....st&p=449146
I'm hoping my entry for this competition will be better. lol I got a good story worked out and I think I have better maps this time around, coupled with a polished battle system and rewards for exploration. My only concern is I'm not sure it'll stay in the 20 minute mark. lol I'll figure that out once I'm done with it.
Hope your project really takes off.

I myself tend not to like sprite comics for the simple reason that most sprites are in fact incredibly limited in their expressions, making dialogue even more important to the delivery. Unfortunately, most sprite comic artists are terrible at writing dialogue too, so the whole thing just looks lazy.

Having said that, nothing is going to make me say don't do it, just that there are incredibly real weaknesses with using sprites for comics.

I used to watch this kind of media of RPG Maker made by Rodpop over Ultima Island. It's not a bad thing, really. You just need to have a emotional story that catches people's attention. Funny, sad, angst, whatever you can think to make your visual novel good. After all, you're not going to fit many rpg element into it, not that you can't.

My advice is to use RPG Maker's style sprites with lots of expressions and poses, great mapping, high quality musics and sounds. If you're doing a comic stripe style, it's way better to use a program to make comic stripe rather than a game making engine.
