I've been wanting to do this for some time now, and think I may just get around to doing finally doing it. Making several video tutorials on mapping as well as going over some of the more common mapping mistakes made by new people. I know a few others have done this very same thing, but a fresh look never hurts yes?

Here, I made my first!

Though one thing I'd like to know from YOU out there. What kind of tutorials would you like to see?
Plus, what common mistakes have you seen people do, new or not, that you'd like addressed?
Gnarizard
I would like to see a tutorial on making expansive wilderness/forest areas with plenty of eye candy and props
without making them too big and empty to reasonably navigate, but still large and freeform enough to still
look like a forest.
An example of a good forest is the "TagWoods" from Breath of Fire II.
An example of a bad forest is "Viridian Forest" from Pokémon (though it would work as a simple hedge maze).

As for common mistakes, I see a lot of maps where the walls are all the same height even though there are staircases used.

Examples:
Failed Map 1
In this example, the elevated floor doesn't come flush with the wall.

Failed Map 2
In this example, the elevated floor comes flush with the wall, but the result is a low ceiling (like 4 feet low).

Fixed Ceiling Height
This example shows that same map with the walls (and thus ceiling) lifted.

Example Map
...And finally, an example of a map with various elevations and staircases.
