If you use Paint.net you can download a .PSD plugin here.

Video tutorial on how to use the generator with Adobe Photoshop: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SY7l9w9HmDk
Here's a video about frankenspriting RTP faces mind you it's not a tutorial on how to frankensprite, nor is it a tutorial on how to use the generator, but it should be worth checking out for some techniques.

Original thread on rmvx.net: http://www.rpgmakervx.net/index.php?showtopic=33443

Version 6.0 includes:
- Everything is nicely organized in layer sets (or when you're using Paint.net or GIMP it's divided by empty layers)
- 3 different skin types (beginners should not attempt using medium or dark skin)
- 30 complete hairstyles for people who do not know how to make their own
- 32 pieces of hair for people who like to make their own
- 16 unique eyestyles, and 31 in total
- 8 different noses
- 15 mouths/lips
- 11 different eyebrows
- 19 pieces of clothing
- Cloaks, helmets, and even glasses
- Scars, freckles, wrinkles, mole etc

Here are some examples I have generated using the .PSD file:

The faceset generator is not a Flash program ... it is a .PSD (Photoshop) file that compiles a bunch of images together. You open the .PSD file in either Photoshop (don't worry, I used version 7.0 to create it, so it should be compatible with everything really), GIMP or Paint.Net, and then tick layers to be set to visible if you want that particular feature. Drag the layers to move one layer above or underneath another layer. You can also do more stuff with it, such as changing colours with your preferred program, or even move around some of the features. You can even make your own hair with it if you're good enough. More photoshop savy people will probably find this very useful as well; because everything has its own layer that means the .PSD file is very flexible and you can really create your own stuff with it.

Warning: While I tried my best to make this generator get the best result in the end and minimize the amount of work the user has to do, some features will still not match with each other properly. Most likely the hair is covering the clothes when it should be the other way around, you solve this by simply erasing that part of the hair. Or maybe your hat doesn't fit on the whole head and it looks weird with hair coming out of it, you fix it by scaling the hat a bit wider to make it fit.

I also strongly advice against using the medium and dark skins because they do NOT match up with all the eyes, noses and mouths, because they were made with the light skin in mind. Thus only a person who really knows how to edit should use these different skins, but definitely not a beginner.

So uhm, I thought I'd post this here, for the people who don't wander over to rmvx.net. Please check back the original thread as I update often to include more content and fix older stuff. I don't think I'll update this topic because I'm more active on the other board, so yeah, check the original topic for updates!

Oh right, if you do use the generator, I would appreciate credit or a namedrop (don't forget to credit PentagonBuddy if you do) or a link back to this topic. You can use it however you want though; commercial or not. Just don't take complete credit for it smile.gif

This looks absolutely fantastic. The good thing is, for those picky about using photoshop or gimp, is that you pretty much have all the resources needed to make a flash version of the generator.

Not to mention, there is a lot of variety of pieces you can put together, and with the use of photoshop, you don't have to worry so much about things not fitting right.

Thank you for your contribution.

I would have loved to make a flash generator out of these parts, it eliminates the use of any other third program considering almost everyone has Flash installed - but I unfortunately have no knowledge of Flash to create such a thing. It's a shame really. Though last I heard, someone was inspired to create a flash generator after I posted my .PSD version, so who knows?

This is really a nice idea which will hopefully spread a little originality into the VX games, generally packed with Kaduki face graphics. I tried it, and yes, a few parts don't fit completely with others, but it's not that difficult to spend time adjusting the image (and making a good game without effort is impossible anyway).
A really neat realization, indeed. Good work.
