Ok, I know many of you may be confused by the title, so to edge you into my battle plans I'll give you some of my research: Firefly (or for those of you with no prior knowledge of the cult classic, Serenity) and another cult classic, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (more based on the show and the books) There may also be elements of steam punk/cyber punk so stick around.
Hopefully we have a handful of fans from either (or both) classics. If not, but for some bizarre reason you're still interested, then check out the above. No really, I implore you to check it out. Do EEET

Speaking of steam punk, Adam Wired and I worked on a RP for months, and it's fairly close to completion, so I'm probably gonna pull that one out soon. PM me if you're really interested in this and I might reveal a few little details. Anyway, this RP discussion thing here is for the above, and it's just a little fun in the meantime
Anyway, here's hoping that collectively we can get another RP going, hopefully something that lasts.

I think we should do a Black Butler RP. I wouldn't know how to set it up though. Black Butler is a story about a boy who sold his soul to the devil and basically he gets a servant until his wish is fulfilled after that his soul belongs to the devil.

Some thoughts on time travel, written by me, inspires by THGttG:

"The terrible downside of time travel was that, much like any form of travel, gradually the two places traveled between became identical. Eventually Time travel became so redundant that magazines and TV shows would release their product at random points throughout history and just let people find the product for themselves. Eventually though this too became boring, because you could just skip ahead far enough and someone would have already gone to the trouble of finding it all and putting it in one place. Ironically enough, the very person doing it often wouldn't know they'd done it, because they'd always check and find they'd finished already before they even began. In fact, the only positive factor in time travel was films, which finally managed to stop having plot holes. Many people were mad at losing their favorite hobby and resolved to release spoilers before the movie was even written, which led to the movie being written in the first place. Eventually time travel was banned. This was an extraordinarily arduous task because you had to ban it in every time simultaneously, and people kept traveling anyway. To resolve this the governments decided to do nothing. The fourth dimension might have been fucked, but at least they still had the fifth one to look forward to. A popular sport among time travelers involved taking a personal treasure and running off with it. Eventually a self from a different time would track them down and take the object back. This would continue for billions of years, and was really just a glorified hide and seek. The most extreme version of the sport was stealing one's self as an infant, then regularly stealing one's self every year on their birthday. This version of the game was fundamentally flawed because as soon as your birthday came around you would also be kidnapped. A final point of note on time travel was and will be about a lawyer who, after many lawsuits, resolved to travel back in time and copyright in all languages the words 'lawsuit' 'sue' and 'copyright'. He then traveled to the end of time and sued every single being in the galaxy for everything. What he hadn't counted on was that he effectively bankrupted his past self, who took a gun and a time machine and shot himself just before he could copyright the words 'lawsuit' 'sue' and 'copyright'. This paradox has effectively left everyone in the universe in debt but they're blissfully unaware of it. Only 6 beings in the universe know that everyone is in debt and they're blissfully unaware that everyone actually isn't in debt, because none of that was meant to happen anyway. Anyone who knows anything about paradoxes know that they hurt the head but don't actually do anything. And anyone who knows anything about time knows that it's much more fun with a few paradoxes to spice things up. Some people have described paradoxes as the loops in the roller coaster of time. Other have described them as a ruddy big nuisance and we'd be better off without them. Likewise, many people believe this of time travel in general, and it's widely become regarded as immature and a bad show in general."

Plenty, and the first part is why it's taking so long XD I've been taking some advice from DBlade and looking over the ones going and the most popular ones that's ever been on here.

Idk, makes me sad. I haven't talked to her on MSN either. Last I heard, she was thinking about another RP too that focused less on combat and more on just dialogue and story. Kind of like what her Institutionalized one would have been like if it ever got off the ground. I was really looking forward to that one.

yeah, plenty of RPs can make it out of weeks of inactivity.
As for the whole 'mass effect already did it', I beg to disagree mass effect has a lore, strict rules, a storyline etc etc Serenity/firefly has a completely different structure. THGttG also has a completely different structure. In fact, it doesn't have a structure at all A 'just for the lulz' RP
Well actually that's a lie, I am thinking of an story (heavily based on Firefly, but based in the world of THGttG) which I'm liking so far...

serenity is good enough to know firefly. They're basically the same (cast, writer, director, etc) the movie is pants compared to the show and book. (THGttG) You can watch the show on youtube, they only managed to make seven episodes like and they're not as good as the book. Bloody good stuff though.

If I had to mention any kinds of catagories I'd say.... Mismatched Crew (Great for character development) Mystery (Something not too common on this forum) And for a catagory of my own; Supernatural (Awesome, plain and simple)

The city is largely divided into three sections: The lowest section is devoted to the complex machinery that runs everything and mines for methane and other necessary resources. The middle section (and lowest habitable section) contains the forests and farms. Largely called the 'acid woods' because of their sour fruit, the woods cover most of this area. All other parts are housing for maintenance and the methane factory workers etc The upper section is the major capitalist area. Enterprise, business, the economy, the government. It's all up in the top. The whole city is then surrounded by a wall, out of the rest of the world is sealed off. The only building that can see over the wall is the central clock tower. In this metropolis there is an academy, the Allen Turismo University of Science and Engineering, and a professor [Prof. Quentin Cods] of Scientific Engineering has just mysteriously disappeared. His inspired students set out to find out what happened to him. Every day they learn more and more about the city's mysterious past (yes, it does actually have a past ) and come closer and closer to the truth, they also come closer and closer to getting caught. Why was the professor taken? You'll have to find out yourself

Presonally, I'm a huge fan of the Steam Punk and Cyber Punk genres and would be more than happy to sign up for this RP when you feel the need to release it. The only genre I'm weary of is the supernatural genre. This is only because of the RPs I've been in the past that have focused on this genre have either been full of Godmodders and morons who think of only how to make their character look cool and better than any other character in the RP. I'm sure though, that this forum has mature RPers that abide by rule set by the creator of the RP. Anyways, I've been waiting for an original RP story that would catch my eye and I look forward to what ever you can coome up with.

well for originality I'm pretty sure the RP is top notch. I've got 4/5 of the basic story worked out. It's quite short but that's because I actually want it to end
It's funny because I have the story planned, but I have to set up the world perfectly so that the RPers will walk the paths I tell them to. Or maybe I'll let them die, if they get it wrong, and start it up again
Oh and yeah, the RPers here are generally very well behaved, if not a little eccentric at times.

It doesn't have to be "Jade Empire" completely. We can create our own story and take only the basics out of it. Y'know, like the Martial Arts, a school, a master, rivalry among students, student ranking, student sparring etc. But I agree. The activity is abit streaky and my activity here is no exception.
A fighting game rp sounds interesting, but that too would tie into the fan rp. What did you have in mind exactly?

Jade empire would be pretty sweet, as for pirates and cowboys... Firefly is about space pirates on the run from the law and landing on planets that are deserts and having quick draw gun fights. It's a western in space
Anyway, it's good to see a lot of ideas on the table..

Jade Empire is only confirmed LOL. There's no information on it at all, in fact it's not even officially announced, some staff members at Bioware just mentioned it a few times. Release dates won't be coming for a looooonnng time

the inevitable is that everyone has to die, but no one wants their character to die. So you have to balance the characters perfectly, which then means no one can die. Whatever happened to good ol' fashioned: "I am the DUNGEON MASTER, you are feeble. JOIN TOGETHER TO FIGHT ME!" That's what I want

Well, since everyone has been so kind as to share what they're planning, i suppose i will too.
We have gotten a few concepts from my game, made it a bit darker, removed a few concepts and added Fairy's and mine's creativity.
To start off, there were seven islands, six of them made a huge circle around each other with the seventh island standing in the middle. Each one of these six islands was aligned to a certain element and possesed certain minerals wich allowed them to craft artifacts called Elemental Jewels (Commonly slanged as Elej). The elemental jewels allow it's carrier to control the element to wich that jewel is aligned, carrying multiple jewels would only cancel all of their possible effects. The only ones who usually had acess to those jewels were nobles and soldiers, the rest being usually obtained through illegal smuggling. However, individuals who, for some reason, were constantly close to the jewels while on their mother's womb, were born with the ability to control the elements without a jewel, as a side effect, however, those individuals tend to have weaker bodies, making them catch diseases often and most being physically weak.
The middle kingdom was special, however, they had a special kind of rainbow coloured jewel wich allowed them to control all of the elements at the same time. Abusing of their gift, the middle kingdom tried to take over all of the other islands, and they nearly did it, weren't it for the fact that all of the kingdoms agreed with each other and assembled a great force against the middle kingdom, devastating it completely. The peace was shortlived, however, not too long after the end of the war, the six kingdoms started fighting amongst each other for control over the middle kingdom, all of them wanted control over the jewels, and none were interested in giving up.
A second war broke out, know as the Elemental War (RP's name), where all of the factions are constantly fighting for control of the middle island. I know what you're thinking "Wait...Isn't having only an alredy small number of RPers spread around six different groups a bad move?" Do not worry, all of our character, no matter what kingdom they were previously aligned to, will make an alliance so they can *SPOILER!* and that will be when the RP will really start.

If you're going to do a jade empire RP it will have to have a nice story to go along with it which I wouldn't mind helping with while I work on a more developed version of my RP

Anyways. I suppose i'll comment on what other people brought up then, i do like that idea. Although i have never played Jade Empire i would definetly be most interested in this and will see what i can do. Will we require knowledge about Jade Empire for it though? Or will most of it be all original?
No offense, but the RPs based out of famous shows/games are starting to clutter up, we have an increasing number of RPs based out of different things and not enough RPers for all of them, i think it would be best if we focused on making fewer but with original and more developed storylines and plots.
If it's going to be all mostly original then you can completely disregard the above paragraph.

this is what I had in mind when I started the thread. Steal research the concepts of other stories and use them to weave our own.
As for your idea nicsp, I won't lie, I will be blatantly honest. Jewels and elemental control has all been done before. At the same time I actually had an idea recently relating to elemental control, so that isn't to say it can't be spiced/jazzed up. PM me if you want to hear about it
Also, work is continuing on the steam punk front, to all who care.

Anyway, your help will be greatful Sparrow. I guess I can type up a short story plot and send it to you through pm. Then you can take that and add your own ideas in it. Either way it's going to be Glorious! as in the Glorious Strategist...? get it? =/
Edit: (I've sent Sparrow a plot I made for the Jade Empire RP. The story itself won't be cannon. In fact, since Jade Empire 2 won't be coming out anytime soon, this rp will take place approximately six years after the events of the first game. So for those who haven't played the first game, fear not, for you will be able to begin a new.)
