I'm a student studying game art, in my second and final year. At this point I'm basically just working on portfolio pieces. Most of the stuff in this thread will be 3D art, but I also do occasional 2D concept art etc. I'm well versed in 3D modelling, sculpting and texturing. I'm interested in and learning about technical stuff such as material networks in UDK. I know some basic rigging, but I dislike it and animation.

If you're new to this thread then you can click the links below to go straight to the art posts, ignoring everything else.

It actually looks nicely done. Coloring's good and your lineart is really smooth.
X-M-O
It looks really good! You should do a few more monsters. =D

Oh, and maybe for the fun of it, you could add a wild tongue. =P
rivette
This is really cool, man. The only thing is that with the skin and body so textured and detailed, the inside of the mouth stands out because it's pretty much just one solid block of color. I know it's heavily shadowed and everything, but it still might look better with some definition.

YOU'RE RIGHT.
Noted.

Wow, its so awesome! Great work, Ember.

I actually see different shades of black/brown inside the mouth, but maybe that's just me...anyway, this is really good! Your lineart is really smooth, like Hirei said. That was actually the first thing I noticed lol

*thumbs up*

I was honestly expecting something really screwed up to appear but I'm amazed biggrin.gif
What did you use to make this.... thing? You have to give it a name by the way... but yeah...... awesome flippin' work..
Sparrowsmith
I'm with Trickster on this one, I never knew you could do such awesome work biggrin.gif
Seriously, that thing is beautiful. It's like the bonus art you get at the end of some games, and people get paid money to do that... a lot of money.

I sketched a basic outline then went over it with a thicker brush, then coloured and textured it. It was all done in photoshop with a wacom intuos 4 tablet.
stifangibbsun
Wow I like your creation. I looks good but I suggest you to make it at perfacet angle. like show its eye and try to cover its all part but you make vary nice teeth. I like it.so make more creation and send it.
Ember

I just drew this, it was for my class. I don't like the lines because they aren't smooth like the worm's are (but that was the idea of the assignment).
Still, he looks pretty badass.

Thanks for your nice comments guys <3

Oh also I have done this very basic sketch of what I want to do next. It's not quite finished yet but I'm uploading it for the hell of it.
I like him so far, and I haven't done a proper landscape yet. Hopefully it turns out okay.
X-M-O
Those are both really good.

The sword on the "badass" guy looks as if it is going into his back rather than being held by a sheath. Perhaps that's a perspective issue. Otherwise, it does look "badass". Great job. =D

I know you've said you haven't yet done a proper landscape, but from what I can tell...that sketch has a very good one in-the-works. The spine area of the monster sketch is really quite amazing and well done. The only issue I can see with the monster, is that the head looks a bit too blunt - but that may be your intent, so take that as you like. =]

All-in-all, you've done a marvellous job and are a fantastic artist! Keep up the great work! =D
punk_blood
first off, i wanted to say

good job on the Arts Ember i like the little bit of slobber commin out of the monsters mouth it makes it realistic...
and i also really like the other guy you drew he looks awesome

and secondly WTF?!?! whats up with that retarded ass picture above me?
thats three times today somebody was picture spamming and second time it was porn

EDIT: nvrmnd he got banned
punk_blood
EEWWWW WTF? who thinks that is funny? thats just disgusting

and yeah if its deleted when you read this youll prolly think im crazy but no its almost worse than blue waffle

Okay I've painted some of the colour into this. I've finished the sky, I'm happy with the clouds. I think it's at the point where I am happy with the grass too, but I'm not sure if I'm doing it the right way. Or if there is a right way. So keep in mind this is my first time painting like this, and I'm pretty new to painting in general.

So, if anyone knows much about painting grass or cliffs, tips would be good. Because I've just been looking at other arts to try and work out how they do it.

Your grass looks pretty good so far, but I would definitely place some shrubs or something in there too. It just seems a little bland in those areas. As for cliffs, the first step would be to establish what your cliff is. Is it a cliff of rock, or dirt? With that, it should be easy to go from there.
Ember
I decided both. Sort of. Then I painted a bit and decided the brown didn't go with it so well, so I changed it to grey. It hasn't really become easier xD
Still don't particularly know what I'm doing.
kaz
The clouds and sky are pretty darn good. The grass is some of the best I have seen.

The cliffs need more depth and shading to make them stand out - they would not be flat but have craggy rocks and jutting out areas.

Is this on a tablet or hand painted?

When I took that screenshot I actually hadn't put any detail in the cliffs at all, they're just flat colour waiting to be filled in. Same goes for most of the grass.
It's done with a tablet.

I could see with the grass that only part was done! The piece that you have completed looks very good , no suggestions for tips at all.

I asked if you were using a tablet because so do I, and you asked for advice. You are doing this the same way as I do then Ariiel gave me some advice on my latest piece that helped- so I wanted to share that with you. ( in my Art thread at the bottom btw- ) . to do with the magic wand.

Your work is really good Ember!
Ember
Thank's, Kaz biggrin.gif

I've completed some of the cliff now, what do you think? Should I make it more stone-coloured?

That colour looks better than the previous "stone" colour- and when you put some shading, and a few stray grassy bits on it - it will really come to life.

Nice work. biggrin.gif
Lato
I really like the way you did the teeth, would be interesting to see some more of your monster work. good job. happy.gif
rivette
The newest piece looks fantastic so far. Are you going for a storybook kind of look? The soft, low-contrast shading makes it appear that way. If you are then you can ignore this, but if you wanted something more realistic you could probably stand to darken your shadows and mix in some other colors to increase contrast.

I don't quite know what you mean? I want to keep the colours cool and friendly, like the beast in the sky isn't attacking anything. Just wafting through peacefully.

Here's the latest on the cliffs, I think I've got it how I want it now.
rivette
haha nevermind, you did what I was trying to say in this newest version. It's looking really great.
Ember
I haven't been able to work on it lately because I've been swamped with assignments :\
I guess I'll post that.

It's just some pixel art for one of my classes. I kind of rushed it because I wanted to get to my modelling work so it's not that good but whatever. I don't plan on doing more pixel art.

*looks at the dragon picture*

Now I'm getting jealous of you tablet-users sad.gif
But that cliff do look awesome!

Hey, try to find more time to finish that, man! biggrin.gif
Ember
Right, so I had to draw this for TAFE too. She had to be a princess and we needed to search the internet for her outfit, or look in a couple of books we had provided to us, but the outfit we made had to be different anyway. (What?)
So I basically took the outfit from the book and made it into something you'd see at a strip club.
Having said that, I'm putting it in a spoiler just incase you're in the type of company that is insensitive to seeing a scarcely dressed.

Oh sorry, I was too busy crying because it was so much better than mine. It's beast.

I've been doing a lot of 3D stuff lately, I'll just link you to their respective DA links.

I mean it in the best possible way when I say this; You're the last member on RRR I would expect to be an artist. I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised.

Every one of your pieces wow me. Even the "crappy" pixelart for your class. I definitely look forward to more! smile.gif

I love "Brobot". XD
Is that a moustache I see?! o.o

Was going for a Bender style mouth but hey, moustaches are fucking manly.

Hmm.. what can I show everyone now?

Guess I could post this. It's a full body version of a previous thing (I like the portrait better. It was less rushed).

Yeah, I don't think it's very good so I didn't put it on deviantart or anything.

Oh, and here's a Tavern I had to make for TAFE. Had to create, UV and texture each object and then render them. This is one of my earliest renders with MentalRay and it's not that great of a result but it looks much better than it would've without it tongue.gif Also the bump map (I decided not to use normals for some reason) on the floor is a bit messed up.

And here's another assignment we had. We were given the model of a treasure chest and we had to texture it. One texture for a relatively new chest, and one texture for what it could look like 3 generations later. However, the chest model we were provided with was fucking shit as dicks so I modelled my own.
Chest textures

"You probably can't even read this because it is so degraded."

By the way, I love it. =D
I think the chest texture and Tavern are simply amazing.
However, I'd like to point out that the drawing (that you didn't put on dA) isn't bad at all. I love the hair. =D
Darkblade
Loving the Tavern and Robot stuff, Ember.

The Chest Textures are brilliant, wish I was that awesome.

Haha yeah we had to include 2 stickers on the chest that showed signs of decay/age. I figured that if the teacher could read that one then I'd done a shit job. tongue.gif

Thanks guise :3

Latest drawing of a humanoid plant alien thing guy.
Ember
hey bump.
X-M-O
I must have missed the new post! O_O

The plant-alien-humanoid looks freaky-cool. =D
Curious as to what is on its back though. 0.o
Do plants need to breathe that way? Don't they breathe through their leaves? D=
Godspeed
That is creepy! You should really do a death metal artwork! Didn't know you were so good !:D

The thing on its back keeps it warm as the concept was that these plant things were invading Earth and they landed in the North Pole. Nothing to do with breathing biggrin.gif
X-M-O
Ah, of course. Now it makes much better sense. XD

Could put a bunch of icicles hanging off of them, lol.
Light one of their limbs on fire for warmth. wink.gif
Ember
We had to bring a childhood toy from home and model and texture it. I chose this Todd Macfarlane dragon toy I had. The texture took a long time.

I'm pretty happy with the result, my original plan was to sculpt this in Mudbox but I ran out of time, so I just painted all of it and used the xNormals photoshop plugin to get a normal map out of it.
X-M-O
Wow, that's pretty good. =]

I didn't know you worked with 3-D art and textures. D=
Godspeed
Me neither. It's fantastic!

I have (as of the end of this week) just finished my first year of a Game Art course at TAFE (Which is like University except more practical). It is mostly 3D :3
Godspeed
What software did you use to make it?
X-M-O
I thought he said he made it in Mudbox. Or was going to? D=

Well, now that you've got yourself some formal education as a 3-D artist... you'd better start charging people for work! XD
