Status: Complete

Playtime: About 7 Hours

-----------------

Plot:
A normal day in the serene village of Everdale. School's just been let out. The village is preparing for a birthday party. Mr. Ronedale has lost his chickens. Mrs. Apricot is baking a pie. And little Danais is consigned by his sister Farrah to buy a b'day present. Enter Skarsgaard, a local thief consigned by his boss to raid this serene village.

And then everything gets thrown into disarray. Danais is missing. Farrah has to go out in search of him and they end up in a town very far away from home! How are they going to get back? To make things more complicated, in comes a band of pirates, headed by Captain Grizzlybeard who is in a mid-life crisis, arrives in the port town. And the Mayor is suffering a migraine from demands from the townspeople: a clown needs cheering up, a young boy needs help wooing a girl, a shaman needs his monkeys returned, a thief needs to be caught, a merchant needs to be protected, and so much more!

How are Danais and Farrah going to find their way home in the midst of all this insanity?!

----------------

What you can expect:
- A mildly tweaked battle system that includes a "Charge" and "Double Charge" system.
- Avoidable wandering encounters instead of random encounters.
- Some custom-made music.
- Loads of minigame-oriented gameplay, including fishing, knife-throwing, balloon-popping.
- "Quest log"-styled gameplay in the second half. Just think about Bomber's Notebook from Majora's Mask.
- One vibrant town in the second half instead of many towns, with many colourful characters you will need to interact with.
- A day/night system to accompany this town.
- Map and teleport system.
- A story with a sense of humour and heart.

I had wanted to desperately play this. I downloaded it and began playing, but unfortunately the screen kept flickering so I cannot go through with it. It's a fault on my end, not yours.

From what I saw, I'm very impressed. Your game doesn't seem to 'big itself up' and create a momentous story such as saving the world. It seems very modest and the game length is particularly attractive. (since it won't make it a bore, heh!) As I said, it's unfortunate I cannot give it a go because I was genuinely wanting to play it. The mapping, minigames and battles look stunning and I hope you gain attention for this seemingly jewel of a game. smile.gif

Is this just showing up at R3 now? I'm sure I played my way through this a while back. Maybe from a different site? At any rate, as I remember, it was a treat to play. The minigames were fun, and worked well, the mapping was well done, probably some of the highest RM2k3 quality I've seen. Gets my seal of approval, in short. Give it a go, guys and dolls. smile.gif

I never did get past the swimming minigame when I played this game a long time ago . . . but I think I'll give it another shot. Until I got stuck, I loved it. happy.gif
Strangeluv
Oooh, thanks for the comments =) The game never really took off, though, but what can ya do. I'm glad somebody liked it!

@Ereth: I made a lot of things easier in this version. You can re-try the swimming area and see if you find it better now.

That's a shame. When I'm done with the game I'm playing through, perhaps I'll knock together a review for this and try to help drum up interest. It really does deserve some attention.
Strangeluv
Thanks a lot. That would be greatly appreciated.

I just watched the trailer. It looks very impressive. No promises but when and if I get the time, I would love to play this. Feels almost like Alundra.
BamBamBib
Wow, nice!

I really like the style of game you got there. RM2k3 can really look like a good SNES game with the right editing.

It looks like a great game! Good luck on future projects! thumbsup.gif

Here is some fan art of the three main characters, done by Hima (who made the RMXP games USG: A New Beginning, and Hello Panda):

Rukiri
crudely shaded and poorly outlined?.. but they're not half bad..

Well look at you popping out of nowhere with such an awesome-sounding game!
I'm downloading it now and I must say that I am impressed just by that first post.

It sounds like an original fantasy adventure. The mapping is great and the graphics are not RTP, and the story sounds fun and unique.
The trailer was well done.

I'm going to play this right away.

*edit*
I have played it a little bit now. It isn't perfect. But what RM game is? This is really fantastic and a great game. Congrats on being awesome. My only problem was using the Statup thing in battle 2 times in a row made the game crash. But besides that, the game is loads of fun and is very interesting. Very good job!
Strangeluv
Thanks a lot for playing! The Stat-Up thing is a bit buggy, yeah. I will get around to fixing that. I'm glad you're having a good time with it.

I'm actually playing this right now myself for the first time. Just started up yesterday. Up to the point that Farrah has just discovered the Danais disappeared into the woods and is now looking for him. Overall, I'm impressed so far.

The story doesn't follow the traditional cliched plot, the graphics get the job done, the mapping is well handled, doesn't leave a bunch of empty space, and the characters are all interesting. Gameplay is a bit challenging, since it seemed forever to even get my characters to about level 5, but I welcome the challenge.

I'll try to remember to provide an official review when I'm through.
Strangeluv
Thanks a lot for playing. I just want to say that you don't have to grind in this game. I've never been a big fan of grinding and you can just fight a few enemies in the woods before you advance. I'd say even Level 2 or 3 could be sufficient! Glad you're having a good time! A review would be welcome if you're up to it.

I'll keep that in mind, right now I'm at the water scene with Danais. There's a reason I play RPGs, because I suck at platform style games. But I'll get it eventually.

Edit: Past the water, in Montrose Town now, and loving it. That's how a town design should look.
Strangeluv
Phew! Glad you passed the gorge because there's a handful of people who got stuck there and I had to send them a tweaked copy.
pablo_jones
Looks badass man. I love the IOG chips.
Strangeluv
Thanks man. If you play it, lemme know what you think!

At one point I had an idea of using the iphone as a controller, but never had time to fiddle with it. And not sure it would be as effective as the will mote would be.

I can't figure out how to post a new topic, so please forgive me.

I LOVE this game and am about 90% done, but I am stuck on the stupidest thing. I cannot for the life of me figure out where the third vagrant is - the hungry one who needs a gingerbread man. I have been looking for hours! I suspect that kicks something into action, because I also can't find "Scott and Anaya peering over a cliff".

I should explain that I have some eyesight issues and cannot see the night screens clearly . . .

Thanks for your help!
