So since I do Photoshop for a living I'm more than a little embarrassed, but also pretty frustrated. I've searched high and low online and haven't found anyone else with this problem. I hope it's not something wrong with my system, because then you plain couldn't help me. But since I do...do Photoshop for a living, I just can't see how something could be wrong with it.
I've never seen PNG files behave like they do in RPG Maker, or at least VX. A full half the time I can't even open them, as Photoshop "can't parse the file." This is some sort of nonsense that goes away if I restart Photoshop, sometimes several times, before it works. But I work with PNGs for some clients and have never had any problems before. Then, when I save a PSD format master and later save as a PNG again to import into the game, the file doesn't show up in my folder. Like, never ever. I'm not talking about RPG Maker now, I mean just my computer folder. It's like I can't find it anywhere or choose it to import it, but it if I save as again it asks me if I want to overwrite it. Even now I have an invisible "Window.png" that won't let me delete my project folder. Again, I don't have this problem with other PNGs, just the ones that came in the latest VX RTP (from the Enterbrain site, not some guy's personal page or anything. They should be "pure.")
I'm worried that using RPG Maker is going to somehow corrupt my system, but I haven't read anyone else online asking about this problem.
Is there a good site for Photoshop RPG Maker tutorials, or at least an area talking about the graphics color and bit depth requirements? Like do you save your PNGs as interlaced or not, do you do 8 or 24, ect? I can find the occassional forum thread here or there but I haven't found one good site dedicated to the graphic end yet. I'm specifically using CS4 but any Photoshop tutorials would be a huge help.
