So, I've used XP for a long time, but now I'm starting to use VX. I'm liking it, but it can be hard to make good looking maps. I was wondering if anyone knew how to make a good looking Mine. Thanks.

I would try different things and see if I get the "Aha!" feeling when it is good or something.
Otherwise, try to find some tutorials. There are quite a lot out there.

Youtube has some good mapping videos.

You could also create some custom tilesets, that's what I do.
