Full Version: VX Item Icons into XP?

As we all know, XP Icons are singular, where as VX Icons are all bunched together. Now, honestly, the only way I can think of to add VX Icons to XP would be to tear each piece off one by one, and I have a custom icon set that is huge, and BOY, do I mean HUGE. Unfortunately, this would take a horridly painfully LONG amount of time, and really don't want to take such a long amount of time to do such [even though as they say, delay adds to quality, i'm just lazy like that!]. Is there some script or something or other that would let you be able to have VX's Icon properties?

I had the same problem as you.

Soloution to this, i made a tiny snippet. you can find it here.

any problems/questions tell me smile.gif

And these are useable in the database right? Because from what I see, [I might be wrong though] it only pulls up a window with the icon in it.
Legacy
Unfortunatly it doesnt allow you to set weapon icons from the database (like VX) that would need a patch of some sort.

The window was just an example of how to use the snippet nothing more. It allows you to use IconSets in scripts. thats the only way i managed it.

Thanks all the same! Maybe i'll stumble upon something and let you know!

I believe I have the same or similar enormous iconset, and what I do is just make the individual icon images as I make the items for the project. It honestly doesn't take very long to do. After all, my project includes a stunning variety of weaponry, 330 weapons to be specific, and they're all a separate icon file, using mostly standard VX weapon graphics.(They fit rather well with the XP character sprites)

Believe me, I felt lazy at first too, but it really isn't that bad, and well worth it. And it allows you to set each icon in the database. smile.gif

But of course you've already been given the alternative of using a script.
I thought of doing it that way myself, but then realized I needed seperate icon files in order to better utilize the battle system I'm using, which uses the icons of the weapon to show an attack animation with the weapon equipped.

Well, whichever path you choose, they both lead to the same place. VX icons in XP.

Anyway, good luck!

You've just given me an idea to totaly recreate the Database.

Allowing to use VX functions (like iconsets) in RMXP.

Ill be using Ruby and WxRuby. If anyone wants to help drop me a PM.

Wow sounds like a lot of work... would that eventaully be an actual patch for XP?
Sounds badass!

If anyone can do it, you can, LegACy!

Unfortunatly it wont be a patch, becuase the way i'd patch it would end up breaking Enterbrain's ELUA which isn't good sweat.gif. So what i will be doing is using Ruby to create an application to mimic that of RMXP's Database to get around patching tha actual program it self. wink.gif

And during the few hours i've started i already have the basis i just need to work on the GUI, i have the Load and Sava data in the correct format to RMXP. happy.gif

i will also allow this to run on VX, although i cant see any point in doing that unless it's just to break the limitations (which by the way i shall also be tryig to do.)

And just to make this clear, this most probably wont be done in a few days, maybe a few weeks a month or two, depending on college etc.

And im happy you think so highly of me. i will try my best to provide this. wub.gif

haha, thanks i've been looking for some kind of Ruby programming to do for a while. happy.gif

i may also get togther a small group of Ruby programmers to help me do this quicker, if you would like to help me out then feel free to drop me a PM. (mainly GUI design really need help doing that xD)
ApocalypticRage
I'd love to help out...but I know jack didly squat about scripting of any kind...And unless there's a book called "Learn Ruby Scripting for Dummies", I don't think i'd be much help. Horribly sorry ^^"
Sakura Phoenix
Well I'm sure the scripting is fun and interesting and if anyone could do it you certainly could Legacy. However if you want an easy way out you could just use the XP versions and put them in your Icon folder.

scroll alllll the way down and click on the downloads links
Legacy
Haha thanks for ruining my fun wink.gif

Anyway, yeah that would be the best choice at the time being as this is taking a long time due to all the things that is needed to be done. happy.gif so you should use them untill im finished smile.gif

They'll last me through the demos but I don't know how long I will survive!
