Law’s Quicksave System

Version 1.3
The Law G14
Release Date

Introduction

Ever wanted to save your progress in a game you’re playing but you can only save in specific parts? Ever wanted to make a game that you could save whenever you want but the data wouldn’t be permanent? Will this script can do just that! This a Quicksave script just like from the Final Fantasy games where you can make it so that you can Quicksave game data so that the person playing the game doesn’t have to go all the way to the next save point in the game, and can just Quicksave their game though it won’t be permanent. Enjoy the script!

Features

-The player can quicksave game data causing a temporary save file to be made.

-The temporary save file is easily recovered through the quickload option which is shown in the Title Screen if there is Quicksave data.

-A warning screen appears if you click the Quicksave button in the menu just in case you didn’t want to do that.

-The save option in the menu is replaced with the Quicksave option.

-If you have a save file and a quicksave file, when you open up the save file, the quicksave file is deleted.

-The script is plug and play!

Special Thanks

Special thanks to Fantasist’s Temp Save script for helping me with some key points in this script.

Special Thanks to Exiled One for supporting me all the way with this script. Without him, I probably would of never finished it.

Bump.

Any thoughts, suggestions, comments? If anyone doesn't understand what it does, I would be more then happy to explain differently.

Ah, this looks pretty cool. You should consider making it work with normal saving though, in my opinion. Basically, when saving is allowed, the save option is in the menu. When saving isn't allowed, Quick Save is in the menu instead

That way, one could, say, make a reusable save when in the field, but when in a dungeon, they can only quick save

Sorry if I'm not very clear. Only thing I can think of right now is Final Fantasy Tactic Advance's save system. Essentially, you can save at any time. When in the field (Ivalice), one is able to make a proper game save without a save point (although you really can't do much on the main map anyways). However, in battle, you can quick save, so you can put the game down but not cheat by just reloading each time you are losing

Actually that would be very cool, but what I had in mind when I made the script was to help people out who only had save points in their game. If they only had save points, it would be helpful to have a quicksave funcion so that whenver the player needed to stop playing the game immdediately, they can just quicksave the game and get back to it later, since the quicksave file is temporary. Also, I think I might update to version 1.1 later today or tommorow since I added more features and since I made a compatibility patch with Paradog's Three Image Title Screen.

This looks good my friend, aswell as i say that i cant use it in any of my games since both uses save points and id rather keep it that way , or else this looks pretty awesome keep it up my friend
The Law G14
@Sicon: Oh, the script deosn't delete the save points, it just allows the player to stop playing the game for a little bit if they have to go out or something. But, thanks for the comments, man, I really appreciate it smile.gif

MAJOR UPDATE

Version 1.1 is out for download! New features include:

- Edited Paradog's Three Image Title so that you can now have four images! You can find the script edit for Paradog's script in the compatibility section of the first post.

- A warning screen appears if you try to open up a save file and you have a quicksave file.

- A warning screen appears if you try to make a new game and you have a quicksave file.

- A major bug fix: Before, if you quicksaved your game and then then shutdoen the game, the game would crash if you tryed to open up the quicksave file. Now, you can shutdown the game after you quicksave game data, and you can stil open it up without getting your game crashed.

Comments, suggestion, remarks, ect. are all welcome smile.gif

Looks good to me.

@ Icalasari & Sicon:

The script is very much like the quicksave systems in many FF games. You can only save in certain places (like save circles, save crystals, or spending save coins) while you can quicksave temporarily at any time.

However, Icalasari brings up a good idea. Yeah Law, if it's possible, it would be cool if you could allow saving in world maps and stuff and then just have quicksaving in dungeons. That's possible if you keep both options in the menu, and on the map settings anyone can choose to not allow the map to have saving. Then the quicksave function is the only choice available.

EDIT: offtopic: Aww! You put me in the special thanks!

Update to version 1.2. You are now aloud to have the save option and the quicksave option in the menu. All you have to do is make a parallel process event that disbales the save option if you only want the player to only be aloud to quicksave.
The Law G14
Hey, just updated to version 1.3. The command window in the menu is less squished now. Here's a screenie:

Hope alot of people find this useful biggrin.gif

Bump

This seems very handy. I guess you'd HAVE to add a crystal or book or something that you can use to save the game. Nice job.
The Law G14
Thanks PathoftheNinja smile.gif You could also make it so that in certain rooms, you could make an event that enables you to save by using that event command in the list of event commands on page 1 that says Change Save Access. Then set the event to paralell process. After that, on the transfer event to get out of the room, you could include in the event to disable saving. But yeah, like you said, you could use a crystal or book or something to bring up the save screen.
