Background

Some of you may know that it's been 3 years since I began working on this project. Yeah, I was pretty sure I'd never work on it again until I caved in and allowed C-Division to help me out with it. Ever since then we've put in a lot a work into the game.

Story
A long time ago, when the word was still young, the lad was seperated into seven kingdoms. The Elders of Star Haven foresaw conflict between the kingdoms as the greediness of the people became aparent. These elders requested a meeting with the original rulers of each of the kingdoms. They became Sages, guardians of their respective lands, and were sent back to the world as representatives from Star Haven.

Now, the Sages are long gone but their spirits live on in Seven Monuments. Legend has it that the key to peace with the kingdoms lies in the power of the Sages.

Many have learned of the power that could be obtained by taking control of these objects, and therefore taking control of the Sages. Two unknown villains have been reported sneaking around recently...

Features
-Badge System
-Random battle power-ups a la SMRPG
-Power Suit System (Class changing) with 9 different suits, each with each own special abilities
-Sage Power moves
-Hammer, Jumping, and many other field skills from the Mario series
-Funny dialogue in the ballpark of the M&L and Paper Mario series
-A mash up of all the Mario RPG's, in a sense
-Bowser as a playable character

It's on megaupload now. Give it a download.
napco
163 MB?!?!?! Wow... I think i'll give up downloading, cause 15 hours are too much time to wait and i have internet only 10 hours a day... It's a pity, because from the screenshot it seems a wonderful game...
vans--
Playing now! So far, it's pretty fun! Having a hard time trying to find where to go after picking from the 3 goombas though!
dawnbomb
omg i tried the demo loved it and now its full? love it! biggrin.gif

Just 1 question can i have the tilesets? I like making games with classic tile sets (like nes or snes style) and it would help. [ Also what was this made with. My computer can work like anything but for some reason this provides lag. I wana throw a anti-lag script in ..FYI it lags for the battle start thing (the star) gameplay and battle are fine.

also ur "offical website" still says 10% done and itl only be 10+ hours. im guessing that you either forgot or the link is very old. update or delete the page. Im also guessing its more then 10+ hours lol.

and for vans you go to the castle and go in the castle (duh) if you have played any of the mario rpgs you should have got this lol.

It's on 4shared, actually.

I can't install it.
SantaBla
Can you upload it on megaupload instead? It's better that you have tons of mirrors rather than one single link.

Hey, awesome work, i've only played up to the Hammer Bros. but this actually made me want to play Paper mario XD
Anyways, i just have one question. Is it necessary to perform grinding to beat the Koopa Bros.? They take 2 hits to beat Mario and then another 2 hits to defeat Luigi (All of the skits wich include Luigi make me lol so much). XD

For the Hammer bros, it depends basically comes down to how often they use Hammer Throw and if you have some healing items. Just keep using super jump to win.

I downloaded the game yesterday and I think that it's totally awesome! I thought that the extremely predictable patterns that the Goombas went in were funny (especially the one that was going really fast around a tree). I'm stuck at the second boss right now because he keeps on killing my guys quickly. What level should I be at in order to beat him? (they're both at level 8 right now).
Batistaberg
But I still can't install it. -,-

level 8 is enough. Just use fire ball on him.

try redownloading both parts and following the instructions closely on the download page I guess.

pls help me..ive downloaded the 1.3 version..but the game crashes at the beginning after the part of the "mario-luigi" chant..it said "sin titulo" not implemented..what should i do??
ghaz990
I know someone said this before... but could u upload it at megaupload or rapidshare? 4share isn't so good for me.

This game looks astonishingly similar to Super Mario Bros: Superstar Saga for the the Gameboy Advance...
LockeZ
I was EXTREMELY impressed with how brilliantly this game pulled off the Mario feel, even despite the lack of platforming segments. I do wish boss battles were slower paced. 4 strikes to kill a boss just doesn't feel much like a boss, even if it is extremely threatening due to the amount of damage it does.

However, the game crashed for me during Bowser's cut scene that occurs after beating the piranha plant boss in Coniferious Confusion. The error happened to me again after reloading and trying again, and numerous other people have reported the same bug on the developer's website. This makes only the prologue of the game playable, which is a shame.
udivision
Does it crash when the star gets right next to Bowser?

No, it crashes after panning north across the level.
udivision
I think it tried to show a picture that was in the RTP and wasn't included with the game. That's what happens right after than pan at least.

Version v1.5.0 should fix that now that the remnants of our RTP are included with the game.
Locke
Nice map tileset where did you get this?
But as i was saying its a very awqesome play
i ever played

Four is enough XD
C-Division
We had to make most of the tilesets we used from Superstar Saga rips. No one had done them so we had to. Some of the tilesets you see in other fan Mario rpg games were done by us first.
udivision
Version 1.5.4! Follow the link at the bottom of the first post to find a list of changes.
Follow the link in the first to post to go to the download page.

This game is probably one of my 5 alltime favorits of rpg-maker game (and I played like 300 or so). Epic, awesome, love it. <3
And yeah, i gonna load the latest version now. ^^ I played another one a year ago.

15 Hours?! God damn.. How can it take you 15 hours to download a 163 mb game.. It takes me 30 mins on a bad day, and about 5-10 on a good day..
Sgt Phantomizer
Looks epic, downloading to check it out.

-Bowser's equipment is no longer locked (But Dark Bowser's is)
-New "Modded Suits" put a new spin on old suits

Coming: whenever I finish it up!
Klokinator
Can you do me just one favor? That intro is really obnoxious and hella loud, plus unskippable (Though if it's skippable, I want to know how), plus seemingly unexitable.

MARIO
MARIO
LUIGI
LUIGI
MARIOOOOO

I mean, I accidentally had my sounds really loud and my fking computer starts breaking the sound of a jet engine, plus I live with my grandma so it was really embarassing. I recommend something a bit quieter, AND that's skippable. Plus, because it resizes my screen, it fucks up my desktop everytime I play it. (My icons randomly shift and end up shoved to the right side of the screen) I want to like this game so bad, but these things are huge turnoffs.

So remove or quiet down the intro or replace with something different.
And add the capability for windowed mode, not just full screen.

One other thing, people have wanted a good SMRPG maker for a long time, so were you planning on making the editor publically available, ever? Before you get a C&D
udivision
You only watch the intro when you start a new game, so chances are you'll never see it again. Ever. Therefore, I'm gonna leave it alone.
Press F4 for Windowed 640x480 resolution, and F5 for 320x240 Windowed.
The editor is available to the public. It's called RPG Maker 2003. -_-

Pirated software != available to the public.
udivision
Either way, I've released all the resources we used for our game, so it's up to you Klokinator and anyone else to go about making your own Mario RPG from them. We'll do the same for Starlite Worlds once that's fully finished so you can make your own Mairo XP game.

I don't think C&D's are anything to worry about at this level...
Philip
Ok maybe it's just me but when I click on the download link on your blog or whatever it just takes me back to the blog page and doesn't download anything. Hm....
udivision
That's not a download link, it's a link to the blogpost with all of the downloads. Scroll down a little and you'll see.
syr
I never got around to beating this (I think it was a year or two ago, and it glitched away on me); but this game was amazing --and I never seen something like this made using rpg maker.. I think I may give it another try... wait... I remember now.. Before it glitched, I was stuck on a boss. (I downloaded this from Mfgg,) I think it was a boo boss probably... I truly can't remember. I regret not having the knowledge to levelgrind... since I typically didn't back then

No, it crashes after panning north across the level.

Double post sorry, but I couldn't resist replying to this. I believe this was the error I got on the version from Mfgg.
udivision
What version do you have?
The main download page has links and instructions on how to update you game to the latest 1.6.1. To the best of my knowledge, SS is free from game breaking bugs after 1.5.4

I suggest redownloading and repatching. If worst comes to worst, you may want to start a new game. At least that way you won't miss anything that we've added in the past year.

I am so impressed by this game smile.gif Just started it today, and I simply cannot put it down. In my opinion, you've certainly made a game more fun than the Mario&Luigi series.

Great job, I can't wait to get further

(There's only one annoying thing I've seen. The save blocks, always asking me to name my file tongue.gif I wish it was either a one-time thing or defaulted on "no" when asked to name.)

About the saves, that was early (and bad) programming. Those events aren't common events, so by the time we realized how inconvenient that was it was a little too late to change. Or we were a little too lazy.

I'm really glad that you're enjoying the game though!
OranGemeo
Beat the game today, well, the Dark Star smile.gif I think I found most of the secrets, but seemed to miss the Frog Suit somehow (unless it's in the 100 trials dungeon thing). Had like 10 hours of play, found 16/18 badges, 8 suits, 8/8 secret areas. The game was excellent, by the way! Dialogue is witty and fun which made me want to keep playing. I really just loved everything about it, the maps were great, and the final boss was a great difficulty (in fact, all the bosses were!)

I wonder, is the Luigi expansion available yet? Cause I'd love to play it for sure biggrin.gif I need to train myself for the Culex fight, too!
C-Division
Thanks a lot. I'm glad you enjoyed it and noticed the work we put into the dialogue and mario feel.
I assume you haven't beaten the pit of 100 trials yet. The boss there has been said to be harder than the
Dark Star. And you get Dark Bowser from that.

You seem to already know about Culex and he's harder than the Dark Star as well. Lastly, in Mushroom Kingdom
the Hero's Room is open so you can do the Boss Rush mode and fight a secret boss.

The frog suit is in the 5th Area of Deep Sea Trenches. You have to go down a yellow geyser.

Btw, what was your favorite quote or scene or attack in the game?
Lastly, have you played the demo of our new Mario game, "Starlite Worlds"?

Well, there would be a lot of them I really enjoyed for sure smile.gif I loved the desert region, like when Mario got all fat after drinking the water, that made me lol. The black chests were always funny, too. (Not sure what Mario game the chest was actually from, but I loved how it was implemented.) And the train ride was great too, with him being accused of stealing. I loved the sound effects a lot too, especially Mario falling asleep, or saying "hello." I also forgot to mention, I thought your music was spot on, too.
-> As far as favorite attack, I'm kinda not sure on that one. Although I didn't use it but in the Haunted Mansion, I liked the Poltergiest 3000 suit attacks. My favorite suits were the Tanuki and Cape suits (Cape especially saved me on some bosses!). Had Hammer Suit had any kind of buffs, I would have used it, too.

I started trying the Starlite Worlds demo today. For some reason it isn't hooking me like this one did from the start. It seems less light-hearted, maybe? But I'm still definatley gonna play through it. I'm not digging the controls as much since I have to use the mouse and my gamepad isn't as helpful because the "A, S, Z, X, C" keys needed to be used. I always like playing on gamepads, better. Although I'm probably about to put Joy2Key to work, or atleast try to see if it will work, so I can play it with one. The game seems like it doesn't have the World Map, either. (Which, I don't know why, I just love having it. Would be neat, if maybe you didn't want to use the SM3 world map like style again, to go for Yoshi's Island style map biggrin.gif)
The characters also don't feel as big, some of them almost too small, but I'm not sure exactly how to describe what I'm trying to say there tongue.gif But still, great work on this one too! I have no doubt it will be great, too

Video (Preview): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QoUDTrbxMO0

I'm mulling over an idea to (finally) create an ICU Gigasoft play through of our games. However, it'll have a twist. On the left side of the video will be footage of me (or cdivision) playing through one of our games. On the right, however, commentary from us will pop up from time to time. They will be about what's happening in the game, how we made stuff, why we did what we did, or other fun facts about the games development.

The first game on the list will be "Seven Sages," although I'm open to doing others (including unfinished projects) during the run through.

Here's a preview of how it will look. Comments, feedback, and questions would be nice before I decide to continue or not.

This really should be a separate topic, since this thread is for feedback on the game itself. Discussions and postings of "Let's Play" are located here:

Outstanding game, though, from what I've played through so far (8 chapters worth). Probably one of the best designed fan games I've seen that really caters to the spirit of the original. A bit heavy on the level-grinding, but a very minor complaint in an otherwise outstanding project.
udivision
Alright thanks! Glad you've enjoyed what you played.

Guess I should've just asked first, sorry.
zacheatscrackers
I love me some Mario RPGs, so I'll definitely give this a try at some point, broski. Looks great from what I've seen, too.
