The Story
You take the role of Marianne, a Liberte Knight whose strong sense of justice and liberty sets her apart from her peers. In a corrupt and abusive class system, those with the power can bring about the destruction of the entire nation. Ever since the discovery of a mutagen known as Ether, those who have mutated and taken on a new power are taken at a young age and recruited to be used as knights. The children's memories are wiped and they are trained in a specialized battle art. Their full names are changed to a single first name, and only upon reaching a high rank in the chevalier will they learn their last names. These knights can then be used as super soldiers for any purpose the government wishes, causing tyranny to the lower peasant classes.
In the town of Strasbourg live the old Franco-Germans, which has been known as one of the many epicenters of tension due to the aftermath of World War II. Marianne's initial mission is to escort the Prince of Ferrand back to Lyon from the powder-keg town of Strasbourg. Immediately, something goes wrong...

Meanwhile Sierra, a knight of Lyon, learns of another knight's plan to assassinate the prince and the rest of the crew during the convoy mission. Desperate to find and kill the knight responsible, she barges into the Clermont parliament in search for the knight. However, she arrives too late as they have already left early on at midnight. If the Prince of Lyon were to die, the buildup of tension throughout the years of Ferrand's existence might finally explode into a revolt against the noble population. It is up to Marianne and her crew to stop this from happening at all cost... But will they alone be enough?

The Setting
The game takes place in a fictional country in Europe, divided into three major provinces based off a class system. We have the Nobles, who live a modern lifestyle most Europeans today live. The Bourgeoisie who are the 2nd highest rank in the system, they make a living off trade and exploration. Finally there are the peasants, who live poorly and do not live with any modern luxuries. However, some peasants aren't that poor, but just aren't that rich either. The three classes are divided into the three provinces, and most blame the nobles for the problems that arise in this split up.

The Class System
Highest rank to lowest

Highest Class
- Prime Minister (PMs are elected by the people, however since nobles and bourgs make up most of the class system, the PM is usually biased)
- Royal Family (The royal family have no real power, they are mere symbols of the country's past)
- Liberte Knights (With the power of a noble, they serve under the Royal Family and PM)
Nobles
Bourgeoisie
Peasants

The World Around
Due to the events in the game, some countries have been altered from the timeline of history and has been offset by historic changes. Of such countries, one of them is France, which is now known as Ferrand. Most countries around the world have developed into modern first world countries, but Ferrand is the only country to be a first world, second world, and third world country all at the same time. Despite this, the European currency is still the Euro, and the United Kingdom is one of the few countries to keep their old currency, although Euros may be used to purchase items from the UK. This game, and games to come will mostly take place in Ferrand, and will never reach farther the the Mediterranean Sea.

The Characters
Marianne
Age: 16
Sex: Female
Origin: Clermont, Ferrand
Class: Knight of Fire
Occupation: Liberte Knight
The main character of this chapter, she is a Liberte Knight for the capital city of Clermont. Marianne was a name given to her by the Knights Legion, and only she knows her real name. Marianne is usually a calm and cheerful person, she is the type to make things work when it comes to disputes. She also has a strong moral standing against drugs, alcohol, guns, and many other things she finds morally offensive. Despite being such a positive person, she isn't very confident in herself as a woman and her appearance. Marianne can also become quite serious when she needs to be, and this causes her friends who are used to her positive side to become concerned. She is a very observant person, usually saying out loud what she thinks, as if to inform somebody else of what she is observing. In terms of combat, she is a very powerful front line fighter, and a decent Ether user. She can use varying types of blades, from rapiers to two-handed swords.

Sierra
Age: 15
Sex: Female
Origin: Lyon, Ferrand
Class: Knight of the Moon
Occupation: Liberte Knight
Sierra is a knight for the Auxen capital city of Lyon. Her job is to protect members of the royal family, as well as preform other tasks typical of Knights. Being from the province of peasants, her group of knights are also treated as such by the other knights. She easily gets over excited, and over passionate in her endeavors, which usually causes her to fail. Her failures and Marianne's constant successes causes her to become co-dependent on Marianne, as Sierra thinks of her as a superior knight in every way. Despite this, Sierra is the main Ether user of the party, with a wide variety of skills to take advantage of. She is easily one of the most powerful Ether users in the country, as her Ether variation is rare. She also makes a decent melee fighter, since she can duel wield any combination of close range weapons such as sabers and daggers.

Jacque
Age: 22
Sex: Male
Origin: Lyon, Ferrand
Class: Sharpshooter
Occupation: Teacher/Explorer
Jacque is the name of a man whose thirst for adventure ends him up in a lot of trouble. He ends up in a trap during one of his excavations, and would have died there if Marianne and Sierra didn't show up. However, his real profession is not exploring, but it is as a teacher in an orphanage. His exploration of ruins are in the hope that he will one day find something to pay for the children he takes care of. He is a very knowledgeable person and very resourceful when it comes to exploration. Despite this, he still winds up in all the traps and gets the party in a lot of trouble. In combat he stays in the back and shoots with his Ether gun, a gun which uses TP (rechargeable with a skill called reload). He's powerful when he has ammo, and when he doesn't his pistol whip still packs a punch. Using Ether Drives on him can raise his ammo capacity, as he does not gain more TP as he ranks up.

Then you don't know the rules of this site.
You also never read passed the first line.

People who pretend to be mods are the reason many don't like posting on this site. The thread has all the required information, and if you thought I was advertising another site don't be so quick to jump to conclusions. Face it, people like you are the reason decent rpg makers don't post their main development threads here.

This topic has met the requirements and is not a downgraded two liner with 3 screenshots, get your facts straight.
Let me read you exactly what the rules say:
"You may not link your thread to another thread on another site and call it your thread, you must construct a presentable thread with the above qualities, or I will remove your game from the forum."
Let me emphasize "You may not link your thread to another thread on another site and call it your thread"
That's exactly it. This isn't a link to another site where you must read from that site. This is simply, a REPLICA of THAT THREAD.

I think the issue here was the fact that you stated you would not answer questions here and only in the linked thread. This may actually put people off trying the game.

You have presented the thread well, and within the guidelines. Maybe it would be more say, "within the community spirit", if you answered any feedback questions or responded to praise in here.

Dark Gaia is one of the moderating team for this area of the forum (currently on study leave) and that is why he pointed the problem out.

Your game looks very good btw, some rather nice maps there.

Had a quick browse of this and I must say I'm impressed! Those maps look pretty good, I'll download this and try it out. Expect more feedback soon!

When I first saw that I had some doubts. RRR has long been a great RPG community, many members sharing
projects in here. I don't actually agree to direct linking with another site for info on a project. Just my thoughts wink.gif.
Besides that, it looks a good project.

It's up to him whether he wants to reply to us here or not.

Look,

He's the one losing here if he doesn't want us to reply to his game.

So just move along guys.
Cooliodafabio
Hmmm...

Actually, regardless of what others say, I think your maps have some issues. I'll go through step by step here.

^ You see the area where the stone steps are? The waterfall should be there, not one step below, that doesn't make any sense. Remember, the sense of depth in the game has to be evident, and that's good you added a waterfall, but because it is in the wrong area, it fails of giving off the effect.

^ Switch to the smaller door for outside. The doors on the houses look ridiculously big compared to the characters.

^Same door issue on this one, but also this map looks too bland and empty, even for a desert map. Refer to some tutorials or visit other threads to see how to fill in areas well, without it looking crowded.

^Near the bottom, you use the map tiles. These are usable in regular maps, just unnecessary and ugly if you do them wrong. Try using different tiles for the sand. Oh yeah, and the doors, don't forget. Also, the map just looks jumbled and unusual.

For the last two maps, they look fine, just change the water tiles so that they match the waterfall tiles. Alright, I'm done typing for now tongue.gif

Heyzo!

I have left the link there for the moment until he replies, and if he will answer any feedback left in this thread.

If he choses not to then the link will be removed.

To my mind it is in his interests to keep this thread going, if he wants to encourage us to try the game out. As Dark Halo pointed out this is a large forum where many people are proud to present their games.

He has done the most important part which is present the game in the correct format.

The reason the link is there, is because some people find I take longer to reply to branch threads than to main ones. If you want an immediate reply, then that link is there, or you can simply use the PM function on this forum. Despite this being the most populated, some people are turned off by the fact a person would attempt to close a topic over which forum the creator uses. That's just arrogant. That being said, this is the last of this issue I'm going to talk of.

As for the map issues pointed out. That's my map style, I don't use the small doors as they make the game look overly retro. Also the fact I like to keep the same tileset ratio throughout the game, as for consistency. Having 2 tile high walls inside, then having a 1 tile high building outside makes you lose more depth ratio than keeping the same door/wall size. If I wanted to make a retro style game, i would make the entire game have 1 tile high walls/doors, as the style matches better that way.

As for the stonesteps/waterfall, that was how it was done in the sample maps given by the rmvx extras. I mostly learned how to map VX using that, and some advice from other good VX mappers such as Leventhan. As for the desert beach floor thing, I didn't like how the desert tile transitioned with the grass and dirt. It was too square and I kept those tiles mainly for indoor/dungeons.
I do agree my first three towns are the most bland. I haven't changed them much due to being too far into the game, but I add what I can to fill in the blanks. I'll upload a screen of some of my best towns later if you guys actually want to see them, as people have said they liked the way the main cities were structured.

The last two maps of the dark dungeon, is what im assuming you're talking about. That particular wall has no waterfall tileset of its own, so I had to use that brick one as a substitute. I'll likely update the early maps in another release, but with this current release, you should have no problem getting from start to finish regardless.

Well, glad everythings settled then. I thought this game looked decent, despite a few minor things (which most have been pointed out). The one other thing that bugs me, is the knight type character dressed in a dress and tiara (how does a physical type character fight in that?). Anyways, despite the stuff said, I do think the game has potential. The story seems decent enough. I probably won't play it for awhile though (swamped with bug testing other games at the moment).

Anyways, good luck with the game!

I forgot to mention the dress is just a costume. You get a school uniform and a coat as well, but you'll be in knight armor the majority of the game. I had to take quick screen shots and didn't go back to change the costume. The dress is also supposed to be symbolic in the fact that she cannot wear it until you beat the game, as Marianne's lack of confidence as a woman prevents her from acting like one.

Excuse me, I have never EVER closed a thread because of the forum somebody uses. I close threads that don't abide by the rules. The fact that I pulled you up was relating to the fact you created this solely to link to another site, not which forum you use. I myself use many forums, I don't care which one you use. And I don't know what you mean about nobody posting their main developmental threads here either. I find I get the best and most feedback from RRR over any other site. I am the one who set up that rules thread, I know the rules. You may not make a thread purely for the purpose of linking to another thread. Threads are for replies, and if you don't want them in here, then don't make the thread, it's that simple. If you meant it to simply be a means to faster feedback from replies, then you should have stated it.

Also, I don't know if you know, but I am a moderator. I am just on study leave at the moment.

Sorry for the double post but I have now added this game to the Full Games Directory.

Thats a glitch in the script, and I somehow seemed to have missed it during my playthrough as nobody got confused ever. That is the only monster able of doing that, and I'll update the game with the skill removed. Thank you for testing it for me.

Edit: Posted updated links. Patch file and full game separated. The confusion skill was removed as well as every character immunized to confusion.

I've try t odownload the patch but the link u gave is not valid....dunno wh y ican't even download it...maybe it has been deleted or wrong link....perhaps u may check it back...thanks

Link fixed with completely new patch. Added content and fixed bugs.
Currently at version 1.2.
Mrmoo
Newest and possibly final version added. Currently at 1.4.
Includes extra dungeon, fixed and complete cameo battle, and added weapons and accessories. Every quest in the log can now be finished, and many bugs have been fixed. Check first post for download of either the full game or the patch.
Adrien.
When you made the patch file did you use a script for patches? like how did you know what files you could take out of the existing folder to call a "patch"? its a very intresting concept

It's everything but the music. It's simply the encrypted version of the database along with the appropriate game execution files, so basically the player can replace database files without having to download useless things such as audio they already have. No script necessary, just take the existing database and RAR it.

Excuse me?
So now you go call Gaia a "Pretend Mod", you should think before you say. If he was a Mod right now, you would be in trouble for calling him a pretend mod. I don't like people you decide everyone is a "pretend mod." And you mapping skills aren't very good, most of them are blank. Probably should add more detail to it.
PinedaX
I don't see why was this comment even necesary... That part of the discussion passed off a while ago, that's easily spotted if you bothered reading the thread.

Anyway, I just want to say this IS a great game and it's nominated in the PoTM biggrin.gif

It looks like UltiHaker didn't read to much of the conversation but he seemed like he wasn't happy when he saw him post that. It has been awhile, but I think everyone got over it.

*incoherent rant*
*maps suddenly suck, therefore game sucks*

It's ironic you're telling me to think before posting. Let me tell you this:
I do no appreciate backseat modding. Nor do I appreciate members who take the high ground using their position, whether it be an admin or a member. I definitely hate it, when members take the high ground by advocating moderators despite ignorance of whatever situation they attempt to argue. In one word: Elitism.
Seriously, enough of this crap. Also for the record, if he was a mod at the time, I certainly wouldn't call him a pretend mod, nor would he have posted "reported", as he could have edited the topic himself.

Here's a map I consider good. A lot of people who played it (mostly at VX.net) liked the way I map and set things up. It was easy to navigate towns and there were no pointless filler houses. They aren't super detailed with tons of graphical effects, but I did my best with what I had (RTP). This isn't a major team project, so don't expect me to make super detailed maps, crazy scripts and graphic resources. The people who loved the game didn't love it cause of the maps, and the people who hated it certainly didn't hate it over the maps. No, they had real reasons. This is the only forum that hasn't given constructive criticism for things that are actually in the game. Which is odd considering the extremely stressful atmosphere the members place on new game makers.

Here's a tip for constructive criticism in general.
For starters, actually say what's wrong with the maps (or better, the game) instead of vaguely stating "it sucks".
"Needs more detail" doesn't say anything. What you're telling me is that you want me to spam rock tiles all over the road.
Point out the flaw, and communicate effectively how to improve that flaw.
I'm appalled that I even have to teach people how to criticize my own game.
DerKomet
Santabla is right Ultihacker, forget about shit that happened a long time ago, that no one cares anymore... specially since Dark Gaia isn't here anymore. sleep.gif

About your mapping Mrmoo, they are allright. You don't have to worry about infesting them with objects, map functionality is the top priority, and then graphics come second. It's up to you if you want to add more stuff to fill them a little more and or add more variety in the environment... working more will result in more positive feedback, so this is a thing you are ought to consider if you want this game to be well liked in overall.
PinedaX
I actually thought the mapping was excellent throughout the game and fit it pretty well.
xmuffin
Downloading at the moment ^^

The story line is well set out and makes a lot of sense. The maps aint great but
they still detailed enough for someone like me to play through. I may give this a
go seeing as it was (POTM). I made a VX game, wish it could have been as good
as yours...

Oh yeah, one thing that does bug me is the fact that the monsters don't match with
your battlers. I mean look at the size of the bat! and your tiny characters. Anyways
I may give this a try later on so good job. cool.gif
xmuffin
What the patch for? at least you could give details on what it does as of now I got no idea why should I do it.
Sozerius
Im having a hard time with the slug boss thing in the sewer, when you have to beat 100 slugs and then at the end theres the one thats super strong....

Well yes.

I haven t been able to beat it and I was wondering if I could get pointers happy.gif'''

Other than that I really like the game.

It seems well laid out, the mapping is fine, its not too sparse, and not too detailed, I feel that it contains the game pretty good.

And you did have some interesting building/landscape combinations which I found to be pretty cool.

The game is challenging but not so much that you want to quit.

Though I must admit I'd like to find a way to beat this slug XD

Kinda odd how so many people are arguing over this thread.
The game is worth playing, thats what I have to say about it.

Theres no reason to have a heart attack, XD

EDIT:

I beat the slug, nvm LOL!

I had to go through my entire inventory practically, and I didnt realize that sierra's heal ability was so strong till now XD
It was a life saver =]

EDIT:

Played the game quite a bit now, I'm at the part where you go to the island...

Anyhow. The game is quite diverse and interesting.
It has a lot of different stuff going on, and though while being rather simplistic, it can be quite complex.
I think that it was appropriately scaled, not too hard, not too easy, again.
I really have to congratulate on the quality of game play, I feel as though Im playing a professional, commercial game, only with rpg maker resources. happy.gif''

The only thing I have to comment on is that the "feel" or the scope of the game seems a bit different than how the back story in this topic presents it to be.
Things seem more organized in-game, whereas in this topic it seems like someones attempt at throwing a bad one at roles in society.
The game is a bit more balanced than the topic presents it to be, in my opinion.
And its weird that Marianne cant equip any of the shields if she's wearing a sword except for a couple reaaaally weak ones.
It might just be the point in the game that I'm at, but there aren't any one handed swords that she can actually wear which aren't significantly weaker than the others.

One more thing.
I typically prefer male protagonists.
However, the personality and way you handled the characters in this game makes me enjoy Marianne all the same.
I like playing her and it makes no difference.

So, to finish up, thanks for the great game, I really appreciate it. wink.gif

EDIT:

I beat the game.
Not bad =]

Though I went to try that dark dungeon, and yeah..
Not continuing that bit.. XD

And then in the demon world.. got to "Xenos" and well...
That was a bit insane.. XD
Not sure that Im going to try to beat that LOL

wink.gif
