Whoops! Sorry. Won't do it again, but you know me! Blatant plugging and shameless advertising got my games to where they are today! lol

It's not like my community is a threat to RRR or anything though. In fact, I'd love to be an affiliate of RRR if possible.

Its not about the threat issue, it is the fact it is against the rules.

PM if necessary as this is spamming your thread.
Dark Gaia
OK, I won't do it again, you have my word. I'm sorry I did it.
Dark Gaia
Gee, it's been a while since I posted in here...

Anyway, just leaving everyone an update on the game's progress.

Update:
Due to me working on the very eagerly awaited and impatiently demanded One Night 2 The Beyond, progress on this game was halted. However, since that game is now released, I'm going full speed ahead on Legionwood, and you can expect the next two chapters in a month or two!

In the mean time, check out this review Legionwood was given on RMN: http://www.rpgmaker.net/games/792/reviews/410/

Here are some random bits and bobs about the next version:

> There are minor graphical changes such as a new windowskin and icon set, and a new title screen.
> The difficulty and balance of a few battles have been altered to maintain the same difficulty throughout.
> You can expect to add Thyrra and Zanthus to your team.
> The game takes on a more non linear route with paths you can choose and more sidequests.
> The same intriguing story of Legionwood develops more.

Release Protocol:

Current release date: August 2009
Release Structure: 2 versions will be available, the full game including chapters 1 to 4 for new players, and a much smaller patch for existing players which will add chapters 3 and 4 to the previous two chapter game.
l33tpie 6
That's great news, Gaia! The patching system will be a definite plus for those of us with Legionwood 2.3. Looking forward to testing the next two chapters! =D
Ireng
Gaia should I wait for the new full version to be released or just play the first chapters for now? Will old players have their saves reused for the next version? So they don't have to start all over.
l33tpie 6
Gaia said that he will make all save files compatible with the next version so yes, I'd say you should download the current version and finish it.
Dark Gaia
Actually, I'd wait, as some minor changes will be made to the previous chapters, such as the Upperthorne Dungeon becoming solvable.

Also, just a note to fans waiting with baited breath, there is no longer going to be a patch version. There are too many asthetic changes to the game, that a new version must be downloaded. I've managed to shave the file size to around 50MB however.

Finally, you will be able to continue from your save file, but due to music and graphic changes, only saves made at the end screen of Chapter 2 will be able to be used.
l33tpie 6
I think I'll start AGAIN from the beginning come next demo, as I think I left some things behind and want to attempt the Upperthorne Dungeon.
Dark Gaia
Yes, you'll enjoy that. I've finally completed the boss of that dungeon and I think you'll find fighting him is quite a challenge.
Michael
Gaia, what script did you use for that menu with the pictures?
Because I might use it for my game.
Dark Gaia
I used the script called "Neo Database Text" by ERZENGAL.

Update:

So far, I've finished mapping and fully eventing the following areas from the next chapter, bring it ever closer to release:

1. Blackrock Inn
2. Midwich Prairie
3. Zolom Nest
4. Blackrock Cavern
5. Border Desert
6. Technopolis

So far, this is about 40% of the chapter done.
l33tpie 6
Zolom Nest reminds me of a certain serpent in FF7...

Good to see you're working on this. Can't wait for the next chapter! =3
Dark Gaia
Hey, it's because of fans eagerly awaiting it that I keep motivated. You'll love the Technopolis, believe me. It's an area unlike any you've seen in Legionwood so far. Chapter 3 begins to deal with the deep past of Legionwood and begins to get a bit "science fiction".

Also, remember, you can expect to find the summonable monster Fenrir in the next release also, which should change your battle tactics in a big way.
l33tpie 6
Science fiction is always good, I'm interested to see how it will tie in with the story and gameplay. The summoning feature also sounds good, can't wait to abuse the use of it use it tactically.
Dark Gaia
Ehehehe. You can't abuse it, I've spent hours thinking up ways to make it effective, but yet prevent you from abusing it. Namely, the summons are powerful but only about as powerful as your highest level character, and are AI controlled, also you can only summon once per battle. If you summoned the wrong monster or your monster was killed, you have to stick with it, adding more strategy to the system. Also, the summons "level up" (albeit less often than actual party members) so you'll have the balancing factor to worry about as well.
Seirno
That sounds like loads of fun. Since they're AI controlled, does it summon a 5th party member in a way then? Would be nice if you could heal them, since if they did die, it could cause problems.
Dark Gaia
Yes, that's the idea of it. The summon is actually an AI controlled fifth party member, and it's up to you to keep them healthy if you want them to last the battle. You'll even be able to cast stat enhancing spells on them.
l33tpie 6
With the amount of areas you've displayed, I'm going to assume that this chapter will be longer than a regular Legionwood chapter, so 3 hours+?
Dark Gaia
Yes, I've tried to cram as much gameplay into Chapter 3 as possible, but with this in mind, there is actually less story and cutscenes than the previous chapters so I'd expect about 2 hours within, maybe 3 if you do the sidequests.

For example, this chapter only adds one new town (Hawkshire) and the chapter starts off in a series of five consecutive dungeons! You can expect a dungeon crawling episode this time around.
Dark Gaia
Update:

The third chapter, Death And Dealings is almost ready for release, and will be done by the first week of August. In this chapter, the story becomes much deeper, and the secrets behind the mysterious Castoth and Ark's strnage past, as well as the origins of the Great War and Legionwood's deep past will be revealed. Lann and the group will begin to discover the significance of the Two Swords and the role they serve in this saga. As a player, you will encounter many new areas, and will be able for the first time to sail the seas of Legionwood in a ship! Many new skills await you, including two new summons (one on an optional side quest) and many side quests can be access via the ocean which can unlock items useful in later chapters.
l33tpie 6
Awesome! This is something I'll look forward to playing.
Dark Gaia
Nice to hear! I'm working very hard to make sure you don't have to wait very long.
TaFresh
Awesome! Gaia, you've got to let me review this again bud! This chapter may earn you...Editor's Choice maybe? Ha Ha.
Dark Gaia
Sure will Tach!

I'm still pushing the chapter forward and progress is coming along nicely.\

Oh, did I mention there's about 30% less lag in this version and the file size has been decreased by about 40MB?
Automaton
Wow, your mapping is amazing!, i just dont really like the 6th and 8th screenshot, ima download this now and try it out biggrin.gif

EDIT: is there a demo or anything?
Dark Gaia
Hi! Glad your find the game interesting. There is a "demo" available with the first two chapters, but I don't reccomend you play it. In a few weeks, the newest version with chapters 1-3 will be released, and since it is drastically different, there isn't any save file compatibility between versions. This was mainly because of a new script I added. However, this means that from this latest version, you will be able to port save files.
FallenBlaze
cant wait for the release of it, ive decided to get the fresh version adn start from the beginning, so i can get all the good experience from it smile.gif
Dark Gaia
Hi Fallenblaze, glad you're looking forward to it.

In case nobody read the post before, continuing your Chapter 2 save file will not be possible if you wish to use the new summon system. Continuing files get some strange RGSS Syntax error when they attempt to summon.
Kaimi
Summoning!? I LOVE summoning!
So - when's the next version?
livpj11
Not sure if this was already reported or not but I just downloaded 2.3 and I can't see any text in any window. I am guessing that I don't have the font you used? However from the looks of the game I can't wait to try the new version you are gearing up to release. Keep up the good work!
Dark Gaia
Go to where you installed the game, the font is included in Fonts.

Latest News:

Sorry on the delay of the new version's release. I'm moving house at the moment, and I'm very busy, furthermore, soon our internet will be disconnected for a week or so. It is on it's way though, it will certainly be out by September.

Some new features will include:

> Skippable and some shortened cutscenes (including the intro)

> Ship travel, more side quests, new party members and two summons

> Abilitiy to detect if the font is installed; if you haven't installed it, the game will run using Times New Roman for you

Also, an important annoucment:

Save file compatibility has been removed (sort of). This is because of errors caused by the summoning script which I was unaware of before now. Continuing files will encounter errors when they summon. Since this was happening, I took the opportunity to overhaul the music and maps too, so you will need to start your journey again. However, there will be some cool suprises awaiting you, such as the Upperthorne Sewers being fully complete!
l33tpie 6
Excellent! Moving house is annoying, I have to move again in October and I know how annoying it is. Just a quick question, how are you doing the skippable cutscenes? Conditional branches?
Dark Gaia
It just simply does a choice handler before each cutscene asking the player whether or not they wanna skip the scene. If they say yes, it just teleports them to the next map. However, this can only be done in certain scenes that don't involve too many switches or variables being altered such as the intro.
Dark Gaia
Update on Progress:

Okay, I've got the internet reconnected and I've moved house. I meant to get the final touches done on Chapter 3 during this last week and release it tonight, but I was required to help pack/move/unpack and didn't actually get any use on my computer. Needless to say, this has delayed the release quite a bit, but I promise it's on the way!

As a temporary stopgap while you wait, I've decided to release the first chapter of Taltarus: The Legacy, the secret remake of Tales Of Worlds I was planning to finish and release after I was done with Legionwood.
Dark Gaia
Hi everyone! Here's a crucial

Progress Update

Chapter 3 of Legionwood, Death and Dealings, is nearly complete. I am currently mapping the chapter's final dungeon and re-balancing some skills, items and battles (which are being made harder, you won't want to underlevel) and within two weeks will be ready for release.

However...

I was toying with the idea of adding an hour or two of extra story quests into the chapter, and extending it a bit further. I'm asking you, my players, for your opinion on the matter. Do you want the unmodified, 2 hour long Chapter Three as soon as possible, or are you willing to wait an extra week or two for a longer, more involved chapter?

l33tpie 6
I'd be willing to wait the extra week or two (less for me 'cause I'm a tester right? biggrin.gif) for the better chapter. One of the many flaws of my own game was not having enough sidequests to lure the player away from the boring old story, not that Legionwood's story is boring, but it's always good to have that break from the main plot, you know?
Seirno
I'd be willing to wait a little bit longer for more content as well. Would have more appeal to the game opposed to being too linear.
Dark Gaia
Thanks for your opinions. I'm leaning more towards extending the chapter a bit more as well. Normally, the chapter was intended to end upon the player just recieving the ship. I'm thinking of extending it a bit longer so that the player can sail the seas and discover a few hidden dungeons while they advance the story a bit further. Basically, I will cut the first bit of Chapter Four off, insert it into Three and as a result, overall, the final chapter, Chapter Five will be shorter as a result. (Though it was never meant to be long anyway)
FallenBlaze
hey its been a while since ive been on here, cant wait to check out the new chapter when its all done
mudducky
Are you still looking for some comments and feedback for the current demo Dark Gaia? Or would you prefer I'd wait until chapter five is released? tongue.gif
LoveHinaX
i love legionwood so far!!! can't wait for the next chapters smile.gif keep up the awesome work!!!

edit: im stuck in this ruin (digging hole)... the room where you get the crystal from the statue... it says that the crystals have to look upone the wizzard again green above and red below... but after pushing the crystals around for a while i cant figure it out! lol i feel stupid...

edit2: nvm ... i got it -.-
Dark Gaia
I would reccomend you wait for the next chapter, chapter 3. This chapter will be able to be compatible (save file wise) with Chapters 4 and 5 so you won't need to keep restarting. However, all players of the current demo will need to restart, so I reccomend holding out a bit longer.
FallenBlaze
its a good thing i wanted to start the whole thing over lol, keep at it DG~
Dark Gaia
Well, I've made sure that it will be fun to start again, what with new quests, changes to maps, rebalanced battles, etc.
FallenBlaze
so do you have any rough ideas on when it will be released?
Dark Gaia
I'm back after a two to three week haitus with the wonderful news that the latest version is finally released!

The first link can be found as usual on the first post in this topic, and more mirrors are to come. The game has been beta tested, but any bugs you find will be recorded as well. Enjoy!
Seirno
Awesome stuff. Downloading it now. This'll give me something to do while my wireless net decides to randomly spike and lag out on everything else.

Edit 1: Is the Sea Hydra boss fight supposed to be all black? There's also a very small typo in the beginning of the game when you're talking to the merchant about the apples, "square" is spelled "sqaure" somewhere in that dialogue.

Edit 2: A few game crashing bugs that have to do with the BGM. First one is "Terranigma - Sad Theme" whenever you're playing as the parents. When you go into the forest after the shipwreck, "06a-Battle-Field". When you try to enter the ruins, "Crysta".

Something strange I noticed is that after you wake up in the Inn from getting the sword, if you go back upstairs the sword is sitting on the table again. The dwarf guarding the ruins is also duplicated.

Iguana Analyze still has the HP wrong, says it has 9267 total HP.
Dark Gaia
Hmm... I'll fix those. Some problems remained from the soundtrack change I see. I'll release another patch and fix them. Thanks for telling me. No, the Sea Hydra boss isn't meant to be all black, so I'll check that out too.
Dark Gaia
Attention!

The beta testers I used at school seem to have not informed me of a few audio errors which occur in the mid areas of the game. As a result, I've released a new 800kb self applying patch to fix these. This patch will also perform the same operations as the last one.

If you're downloading the game from scratch, please get this latest patch. Unfortunately the patch will not work for those who've already used the first patch I posted yesterday. You can still fix these problems without redownloading however, by following these steps:

1. Go into Legionwood 3.1/Audio/BGM folder.
2. Copy "jbsm024" and rename it to "Crysta".
3. Copy "jbsm010" and "jbsm026" and rename them to "06a-Battle-Field" and "Terranigma - Sad Theme" respectively.
