Hey, I tried your game, and it's really nice sofar

... I just wanted to ask about this screenshot I saw (in spoiler).
Did you use a script for it? or is it a evented picture?
Ark Reaver
Apr 2 2009, 02:35 PM
To my knowledge, Dark Gaia has used a picture for this effect. Some small amount of eventing would have been there as well.
Dark Gaia
Apr 2 2009, 10:45 PM
Yes, it is a picture created via events, with an event showing a picture overlayed on the screen. The transparency of the picture is set at 180. I use the technique several times in the game, on many different maps.

I think the begin detail and all is awesome and will you do me a favor and teach me how to make my characters stuff appear like that.

Thanks for the compliment, and yes I could teach you whatever you need to know.

After playing a bit more of the new Legionwood demo, I have a question: Is the fog on the world map there for effect or is it part of an elaborate plot in the game? I got the idea when I thought of FFIX's mist continent. Just a silly question for you to answer =P
demonlord5000
Apr 6 2009, 10:25 AM
Hmm, thats an interesting idea. At first I thought it was just for affect, but then again, there could be some elaborate plot we don't know behind it yet. Mist has been used in the past in more games than one as well (legaia comes to mind). Anyways, that is an interesting idea, since fog hasn't been used a whole lot.
Dark Gaia
Apr 7 2009, 07:53 PM
Did I ever tell you guys you're too smart for your own good? The mist is not there for effect at all... In fact, it is a part of a massive twist in Legionwood's plot, one that will make you question the very nature of the world itself.
l33tpie 6
Apr 10 2009, 10:59 PM
Would it happen to be a massive evil tree in the outer continent producing the mist?
Dark Gaia
Apr 10 2009, 11:04 PM
Why yes! How did you know!?
No, it is something far more sinister. I would reccomend you play One Night so it doesn't seem so confusing when you find out what it is. The mist is there for a reason, and it's been there since ancient times for a specific purpose. I'll just let you in on a hint: It is there so that the inhabitants of Legionwood cannot see the sky (ie. Outside of their world).

Its obvious you spent alot of time working on this game, I've been playing the demo for awhile.
I don't have any negative feedback, I like it : )
Dark Gaia
Apr 10 2009, 11:17 PM
Yes, I have spent about 21 months on Legionwood now. It is by far my greatest work, and I'm very proud of it. Glad to hear you're enjoying the game so far! I have more coming your way soon!

Hey DG, I've got a question... What genre would you put Legionwood in? It's got a slight "epic fantasy" feel to it in my opinion... OH! And I'm finally getting somewhere! I've just got Alexis. XD
FallenBlaze
Apr 12 2009, 12:57 PM
first time playing one of your games, and i must say, i love it!
but i dunno if its just me but once in a while i get errors saying the level stack is too deep, the last one that happened is when you meet up with alexis on the ship and its about to sink and stuff
demonlord5000
Apr 12 2009, 01:13 PM
Glad your enjoying it. For the stack level errors, I think they only happen once, when and if, they happen at all. If they cause a bunch of troubles, you can try switching the screen size (helped me for one particular game in the past). If you still need help, you will likely have to wait for him to log in. Anyways, enjoy the game!
Ps. since he isn't here to do so, I will say it. Don't forget to try out his other games, such as one night!
FallenBlaze
Apr 12 2009, 01:53 PM
ill try out the other games, and for the level stack either view causes an error, its probably best to wait and see what he has to say, but thanks for the advice it may work on other games
Dark Gaia
Apr 12 2009, 06:49 PM
Yes, I have no idea why such errors occur. It seems to happen when VX games aren't recieving enough processing power, so make sure Legionwood is the only program running and change screen size if problems persist.
Glad you're liking it so far, and do try One Night! Don't try Tales Of Worlds just yet. I'm currently working on a VX remake of it, so hold out for that.
@EvenAngels: I would put it in the "medieval/fantasy epic" genre, but I must say, it certainly gets a bit "sci fi" soon.

well, i will try closing all programs and see if that works, and ive tried tales of worlds, its not bad, cant wait for the VX remake
EDIT:
i finished legionwood (well as far as it goes for now) and ill admit it, its gonna be my favorite game when its fully done, everything is orginal and awesome! i like the music for the most part, now i cant wait to see what happens in the next 2 chapters! too bad its a couple of months away if i got that right

Apr 13 2009, 07:52 PM
Yes, unfortunately the next release is still a ways off, but if you wait and hold your breath, it will be well worth it once it is out! I won't reveal anything much about it, but you can expect the story to get more darker, and you can expect a couple of new features and of course the same old Legionwood challenge.
@blade911: Only I am working on this game. Just me. That's why it takes so long to develop.
FallenBlaze
Apr 13 2009, 09:40 PM
can you give us a sneak peak on the new features and stuff?
l33tpie 6

I think when Dark Gaia has enough done on it, he'll show us what he's done. Til then, we'll just have to wait.
Dark Gaia
Apr 14 2009, 04:37 AM
I'm afraid l33tpie's right my friend... I always keep my development under wraps until it's ready to be released. The reason is that these features are hardly set in concrete yet and may not actually stick.
However, one feature that is certain to make an appearance will be Tactical Battles! In the next chapters of Legionwood, war breaks out on a large scale, and you'll find yourself unwillingly involved in massive army verus army battles.
l33tpie 6
Apr 14 2009, 04:58 AM
Tactical battles sounds sexyawesome. Two battle systems reminds me of Prophecy. Hopefully you won't make overly long battles, especially considering it's an army.
FallenBlaze
Apr 14 2009, 06:18 AM
thats gonna be quite interesting, for a good game im a patient man so i can wait, keep up the good work! now if only i could be that good at making stuff like that
Dark Gaia
Apr 15 2009, 03:30 AM
The tactical battles will be armies of say 20 to 30 units fighting each other. However, as in Legionwood you only control YOUR characters, only about 6 of the units will actually be under your control.
Also, announcing a second new feature which just became set in stone... Summoning!
Yes, you heard right. You will now be able to find and collect special "guardians" who, when summoned, will fight alongside the party as an AI controlled fifth member.
FallenBlaze
Apr 15 2009, 06:31 AM
kickass! but i bet the summoning will be limited and stuff, to like once per battle or until mp is gone or something like that am i right?

Apr 15 2009, 05:35 PM
Wow... this project has really taken off since I left. It looks amazing... you must have picked up the ability to code all these extra features yourself, I assume.

Yes, all coded myself by me and for me... err... all the fans. The summoning is limited, but not in any bad way. The limit is that you can only have one guardian fighting for you at a time. If you want another one, you must dismiss the first one or let it die.
FallenBlaze
Apr 15 2009, 10:40 PM
i figured that would be one of the limits, is it like gonna be part of the story line or a side quest?
Dark Gaia
Apr 16 2009, 05:44 PM
In the story line you will pick up three guardians, but to get the other ones, you'll have to embark on side quests, and they are well worth it. There's one for each conbat style. There's a physical attacker, elemental attackers, a healer, an enemy weakener (heaps on statuses and lowers stats) and more.
FallenBlaze
Apr 16 2009, 06:58 PM

well, ive always wanted to make one of my own but i never had the patience nor the skill to learn it, so this is the next best thing, anyways sorry for going off topic....
how many more hours of gameplay will be in the next two chapters?
Dark Gaia
Apr 16 2009, 07:42 PM
I'd say around about the same amount as the first two chapters had. Of course, this will be added onto the first two chapters in the new version so all up around 8 to 10 hours in the next release.
FallenBlaze
Apr 16 2009, 07:46 PM
so when the next release comes we just overwrite the files and just continue on from we left off right?
Dark Gaia
Apr 16 2009, 08:05 PM
Yes. You'll have two choices: Download a completely new download featuring Chapters 1 to 4 (this will be for new players mainly) and start again or copy over your save file, or download a small patch (about 10mb) for people who already own Legionwood. This patch will simply add all the new files to your copy automatically, and once it is done you just resume playing.

l33tpie 6
Apr 17 2009, 09:50 PM
Using patch maker for the next demo, eh? Make sure it works properly before sending it out so you don't have to re-upload several times like One Night. Also, are all the beta testers going to be the same for the next demo? If not, you know I'll be up for it no matter what.

Apr 18 2009, 10:45 PM
I've recruited a very trustworthy team who really helped me last time, so I'll be staying with the same lot. Of course, some people have left RRR since then from the team so I may be recruiting some more. I'm also thinking of recruiting a few more Team Gaia members too.
And yes, Patch Maker is what I'm using. I'm keeping track of any new files I add on a document so I'll make sure I don't leave any out. Mainly it'll just be the new maps and a few new battlers though.
@Fallenblaze: Yes, they are jealous of my game's popularity over theirs. They believe their game is much better and deserves my fans.
EvenAngels
Apr 19 2009, 01:11 AM
@Jealousy: That's a real shame.

It's a pity they can't just look at Legionwood and try to work out
why it's more popular...

It takes a lot of spare time and patience more than skill. If you are absolutely willing to tell your story and perservere, you'll learn to get better and then nothing can stop you.
You don't have to be skilled to create a great game, you just need to put a lot of effort into it. If you put heaps of effort, most often people can tell and will love it. Look at my Tales Of Worlds game. Being my first game, it isn't very polished at all, but people can tell I gave it a red hot go and respect it for that.

Well that's the key thing. So long as you don't half ass it, you can make something great. I have set up a new RPG Maker forum at LinkRemoved so if you need some more advice from serious RMers, join up.

He can have a user bar but not refer people to it, We dont allow blatent advertising on the site. Foe example you can, on the odd occasion refer to your game as an example in a thread, you cannot however refer to it everytime you post.
Direct references like the one made above are against the rules.
