But she won't use it, she would want to figure everything out on her own with no code to help her anyway.

It's not a hint, it's an actual code that needs to be entered to access a secret item. You can't find it anywhere but this thread.
Twinstargemini
I will try and persuade her, but it doesn't work, you won't get angry me. I hope, anyway, wish me luck. She is really stubborn, I am going to try and get one more member for RRR. If I do, I am so going on the good list for this place, because she is like a tyrant to persuade, because she could say to me, off with your heads.
Dark Gaia
Well, she really would like RRR. All my best games come here first, and we all love new members, and besides, she can still be on Gaming World at the same time. I frequent something like 15 forums myself.
Twinstargemini
Okay, I will persuade her.
Dark Gaia
Yes, well let's keep to the topic from now on

P.S. The Project Of The Month polls are now up, so go and vote for your life!
Twinstargemini
Okay, anyway when do you think we will see the demo around a new one, somewhere in January or are you just going to keep it to the full game in February.
Dark Gaia
Well, a new demo is in the works, so it should be out sometime in the Jan/Feb slot, though I wouldn't expect the full game until June at least. Hopefully the new, longer, demo should tide you over for a bit.
Twinstargemini
Okay, also how many characters do you think we would be able to use.?
Dark Gaia
In the current demo, you get to use four, but in the new demo that will be released soon, you should be able to use six characters all up. In the full version, you will get to use nine. I know I've only listed eight in the characters section of this topic, that's because the ninth character, Kiru is a secret one.
demonlord5000
You ruined the secret for me ='(. Heh, you know I would of end up finding him anyways though. Anyways, anyone else out there got any reviews for the game? Also, if anyone gets stuck in the game, I'll help them out a bit (but I won't give spoilers!). I would also like to say: Vote for legionwood!

Ps. Free cookie to the next person that reviews!

But not if you make a negative one.
Craze
Alright, so I 've downloaded the game and I'm going to give it a shot after I finish up some college application business. My first impressions from the screenshots are kind of negative, however--I remember seeing them on a different forum and reacting harshly. The old man goes on about five billion tangents in a single textbox, and the dialogue in general seems a little bland. The ground also seems to suffer from tilevomit. I really don't like that cliff screenshot with the soldier at all. The rm2k3 backdrop in the beach battle also doesn't really fit since Lann is standing in the water. If I was fighting for my life, I would not want to have shifting footing. :<

Although these are iffy reactions, I still told Dark Gaia that I'd play this and so I shall. I'm not going to do a 'real review' (points and whatnot) because I hate organizing my thoughts like that, but I will post my progressive reactions to the game. I'm a huge jerk and very honest, so don't expect anything sweetened-up, bless your heart.

EDIT: And here you go, my notes.

Notes on Legionwood, demo 2.
Craze's system: +positive, -negative, =indifferent.

---Started game, 12/30/08, 2:33pm
+I like the title music and how the 'load game' option isn't even displayed in the menu.
-The title image is really ugly and pixelated. I hope that guy is a real character and not just a random "OMGNIFTY" picture.
-You can see a character in the lower-left corner for a second. Ew. Start the game with no party members plzkthnx.
=Why am I being told that the game has [adjectives]? I don't really care.
-Don't use that stretched-out Warlords 3 dragon, especially with a goofy five-year-old's writing-esque font.
=You are using [adjectives] again. I know that I am playing an RPG game, okay? Stop telling me all this.
=[ color="SmashedPumpkin"]Legionwood[/ color]
-DO NOT USE AUTO-CLOSE MESSAGES.
-'Burried' is not a word, methinks. Also, there is an obvious line in the middle of the ocean where the 'dark/deep sea' fades out. It looks terrible; drag the tile over the edges of the map again to make them wrap around correctly.
-IT'S is INCORRECT. It's is a contraction--it is. ITS is possessive, and what you want.
-You could tell me all this by saying 'THERE WERE DISPUTES'. I don't care about this information, it isn't interesting, it auto-closes too fast, and the repetitive music is annoying me.
-Stop using it's, and it's (that is the correct usage) 'their,' not 'thier'.
-A millenia? Really? Nice word, ridiculously unbelievable.
-It might just be my switching between Notepad and the RGSS2 player constantly, but that music IS TERRIBLE.
-"...left unslated for centuries," is gross and doesn't mean anything.
-STOP USING IT'S WHEN YOU MEAN ITS
-STOP STOP STOP STOP STOP STOP TELLING ME WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN I WANT TO PLAY THE GAME AND I HATE THIS MUSIC AND I JUST WANT TO PLAY STOP STOP STOP TELLING ME ABOUT DARKNESS, LEGENDS AND THE PAST I JUST WANT TO PLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYY.
="It is very vibrant."
+You have some interesting villains, one that wishes to die and and one that seems that he might go turncoat. I hope they live up the their potential.
-I'm getting... sick of these... ellipses....
+I like how the closests and whatnot have descriptions.
-I dislike being told that the arrow keys let me move.
+Only opening chests from the front will probably piss me off, but it's (see, correct usage again) a nice touch.
+'Peptide' is a great name for an item.
-In the inventory, 'weapn' is used instead of 'weapon'. That looks bad.
-In the equipment menu, instead of having an arrow or 'to' or something similar, there is a question mark--'Attack 17 ? 15'. Ew.
-The character screen should show the other stats shown in the equipment menu.
-When showing where the marketplace is, [hero] says 'Liara' instead of [heroine]'s name.
=This woman is worried about keeping track of her children while wandering about aimlessly. Heh.
=Let's go! Let's go! Let's go!
-There is something constantly being suggested but it seems awfully forced. Like, seriously... something happened, so tell me once (maybe twice if you must), then drop it until it's (correct usage) important. I'm sick of reading "since..."
-Even with your high-falutin' anti-lag scripts, the town is barely tolerable while the pub is fine and dandy. Eh.
+I really hope that these sewers are optional, because I want to find that wedding ring but don't feel like a forced sewer dungeon right now.
=People in this town really like to drink the day away.
+Heh. I like the drunkard yelling at me when I block his view.
=Equipment is really cheap... 8 Kyphers for 8 more ATK? When I have 201 after buying a bow and whip for--wait a second.
-[Heroine]'s name is Liara. I named her Alicia and confirmed that choice. What the Hell?
=BUT WOULD YOU GIVE YOU LIFE FOR THAT RING? Muahahahahahahaha!
-Town is so laggy. :<
=Oh look, Merces. I don't know how I feel about him being right there in the inn.
+The inn have run-down shelves is a thoughtful detail. Nothing major, but I hope little things like that continue throughout.
=This isn't a pressing issue, but I want a blacksmith in my basement that makes cloth armor with a hammer. That's talent right there.
=I guess equipment is cheap because skills are expensive (kind of)? Whatever, we'll see if it works as the game expands.
=I can use a spellbook to cast a spell once, or actually buy the skill for only ~2.5x the price. Eh.
+The church music is a bit grainy, but nice.
=I would turn spellbooks into scrolls, but it isn't a big deal (jRPGs do not a realistic situation make, which is why they are fun, but seriously... lugging around tons of books?). Also, I stole from a church. Heh heh heh. A church with a crack in its wall (huh?).
=Well, at least the urinating man is honest.
=The well leads to... a catacomb? I was expecting water, but okay.
+I like the lighting effect, even if the darkness isn't dark enough to warrant it (that was subtle hint to darken the not-so-light areas).
-Where the Hell can I find a save crystal? :<
=Oh, I can just save on the world map.
+The world map uses music similar to Hero's Realm's music (haha, the double apostrophes there look terrible). This isn't a negative because it's a great tune and better quality than HR's midi, anyway (I think).
=Only three save slots? I mean, you only need one or two for a game like this, but it just seems so small.
+Awww, cute tiny sprites. =D
-What does "the wood is rotton" mean when you investigate the crate?
+Battle theme is nifty enough, but I'll probably tire of it soon enough.
=I'm not going to make this a negative because I might be wrong, but I think that "Amphibian" is incorrectly spelled.
=Well, you weren't kidding when you warned about this dungeon being hard! Defeated!
-Make the battle tutorial skippable, please.
+Liara whipping the snake was cute, though.
-Why does Study Enemies show a 'miss' message?
-Don't tell me an enemies current HP, tell me the max HP.
+The sound effects in battle are very crisp.
-When I use Embrace, it shows an empty message box. :<
-[Hero] is standing in the bushes during battle. :<
+Yay, auto-healing after gaining level just saved me two salves. =D
+Combat is very simple, very bouncy, very quick. I might grow sick of it eventually--it's (correct usage) not really a challenge, but it IS fun to just murder things. I wish 'Pierce Bite' absorbed more damage, though. Healing 18HP is silly when I do ~90 damage to the bat!
+There are a lot of little places to see that I can't really access yet. That's nifty, and doesn't feel too restraining (yet).
+Haha, I like the Selatan Plains music. The tunes as a whole (except that intro music HSGNSJOGNngljaliHSLGhgboih) have been good.
-Kill the lens flare.
-My normal attack does only 10 less damage than Blind Fury.
-Why do I have to select 'Heal Up' at a save crystal, instead of just healing me automatically? It's annoying.
-Enemy attacks don't have sound effects.
=Dropping weapons as loot in chests is a bad idea, unless its unique (unlike Iron Sword). I can buy a Iron Sword after killing two encounters, and it takes at least five to get to the chest with an Iron Sword.
-------------Play ended at 4pm exactly (taking a quick break).
--------------Play continued at 4:57pm.
=Does Luck affect your defense? I ask this because Serpents are doing only 1dmg to Liara after she uses Four Leaf Clover, and I'm guessing that this would be VERY exploitable in boss battles. She's also doing 30-40 more damage with her normal attack than Yalex ([hero], but I'm sick of typing the brackets), despite usings a whip instead of an iron sword.
-Escaping enemies don't show a message, just a message box with no text.
=Maybe save crystals could only heal once/twice a day or something? They pretty much negate inns--this is why healing-save-point games usually don't have inns--and are free. It would be neat if they didn't recharge until you spent the night at an inn, and also discourage grinding.
=Another note: skills are really, really cheap, especially with large boosts in SP as you level. Maybe make them a tad bit more expensive? There is no reason not to use Double Strike every single turn.
=It's (correct usage) not terrible yet, but consider lowering the encounter rate (or, rather, increase the number of steps before triggering).
-Chests don't pluralize items when you get more than one; basically, don't use the default chest-maker. =D
+The font isn't bothering me as much as I thought it would.
=Not a huge deal, but I'd like it if Double Strike did two attacks instead of just double damage.
=Trying the catacombs again.
=Hahaha. Got surprised, and Yalex is only alive because of a miss. Flee! Then die anyway. Guess I'll have to go buy those Techs a second time...
=I just sold all those skins and pelts. I hope that wasn't a bad idea.
-I guess Implosion will be good against high-DEF enemies, but right now it seems weaker than the elemental spells but still costs more SP.
=I'm not sure how I feel about being able to put all skills on everybody. I can't remember if you're going to use the KGC script that limits skills or not, but I HIGHLY SUGGEST it so that characters don't become clones of each other with access to all skills.
-Study Enemies didn't work on the Crayfish/Baracuda fight. Also, a crayfish is not a crab (more a lobster) and a baracuda is not a fish but a snake. :<
-Luck is overpowered. Liara was hit three times and only took three damage TOTAL. Tone down FLClover. =D Also, give those enemies more HP to make it a more challenging fight. Two shots of Shock Bolt wasted the enemies.
-"That was close!" <-- Yeah right.
-That Study Enemies skill I used during that last fight? It triggered that the start of the next random encounter instead.
=Oh hey, Bandits are good Implosion targets. Yay--it's (correct usage) the only magic skill I have on Yalex, so. =D
-The girl turns to face you when it gives you 'must put into arms' message. =P
-YOU DON'T EVEN PUT THE CAT IN HER ARMS! KSNglSngoiheog3th398rvhihgkjshg;hsrguohwhGouhrgkhdfbvkhd
=More varied enemies in the cave would be nice.
-You can see two save crystals on the same screen. That's ridiculous.
-Save crystals change color based on where you face them.
----------------Pause! (taking break at 5:40pm).
----- ---------- --------Playing again at 6:15pm.
-Why did that chest give me an Iron Dirk? It's (correct usage) useless; same bonuses as an Iron Sword but with less ATK.
-Uh, this one chest doesn't have to be opened from the bottom (top-left of the cave). Way to break your consistency. :<
=It's not a pressing issue, but removing the exclamation point after the EXP/Gold rewarded post-battle would be great. 6 Gold looks like 61 gold.
-YOUR DIALOGUES ARE TOO LONG. You could cut, like, at least half of the filler out of your conversations. After falling down the hole, the characters repeat themselves about 500 times. I'd say that the long dialogue sequences like this--not REALLY long or anything, just more than they need to be--hurt the game quite a bit.
-THE OGRE SAYS FAR TOO MUCH.
+Heh, I like the upbeat boss music.
=Luck seems to be better balanced for bosses. Liara's taking ~40 damage while Yalex takes ~65.
-Boss music loops horribly. It just cuts off and starts again. :<
-Skills really need to cost more. It's far too easy to Ice the ogre to death (don't you dare call that strategy when the Study Enemies skill says USE ICE MAGICKSLOL rather plainly).
-Stop using the 'that was close' line. I only healed once.
-The ogre's wooden club is weaker than my 11 Kypher Iron Sword.
=I'm guessing you haven't finished the world map, because a huge section of it is monster- and location-less.
-Randomly using cracked floor tiles in the middle of a house doesn't look so hot.
-People say FAR TOO MUCH. There are TOO MANY TEXTBOXES IN THIS GAME.
=Thomas is a perfect example of this. When you talk to him while exploring Charn, he goes off and repeat himself using slightly different words. Less is more when it comes to text.
-Melde's dialogue could be lessened to two lines.
="Cor blimey," eh? First, the smith should say Cor--it's (correct usage) not Gore, and I bet you like DQ8. =D
-How can Yalex see Ark and the guard through multiple houses?
-The Ark/guard scene takes... so... long... .... ........... "Let's get this done quickly" my rear end.
-The man from another world is my level?
-The mortician has the wrong faceset. He also has too many lines/repeats himself.
=I was hoping that Melde's dialogue would change after I got Ark, but oh well.
-There are tons of little typos in this game--'underneith', improper use of 'or' (should me 'nor' in Melde's text), stuff like that. Go through all your NPCs and fix typos as you CUT THEIR HUGE MESSAGES TO SHREDS and such.
=Let's get moving! Oh, and do x, y, z. Let's get moving!
-The guard says to read the reports, but then the party just goes on about the monster anyway. Useless.
-...the guard captain is identical to Ark. Make him more unique, please, even if he is a temporary ally?
-Yalex is standing on the wall of the sewers.
-The guard captain has Ark's frenzy skill, but has no frenzy bar.
-Groups of five bats != fun. They do 1-2 damage and take multiple hits to take down.
=...what difference does the height of the bridge make when using wood? Also, you COLLECT BRIDGE-MAKING WOOD and then Ark says that it's (correct usage) useless. Ew.
-Okay, so the timber works HERE but nowhere else. What the Hell? I guess the height thing makes sense now, put there is plenty of rope and... UH I just don't like this reasoning very much! There aren't any stairs or changes in elevation here!
+Flamekins healing themselves with Fire Bolt is very cool.
=Heh, Ark does ridiculous axe damage to everything.
-This timber gimmick is getting old fast.
-Guard Captain can use Minor Cantrip after a while. Guess your script's bugged! Also, your two-hit skills are kind of wonked. Get the fix, or just make an animation. The Tankenktititekntai battle system isn't THAT hard to figure out.
=CHICKEN SPICE! BOOSTS YOUR HP!
-Starting to get bored, here. Fleeing battles constantly. The mild lag isn't helping, either.
=Water pressure wouldn't apply here, but whatever. Don't let me leave until I press another KDSNNEoi34thJSnvd button.
-So did Merces or whoever just jump the bridges, because, uh, he's probably killed the entire royal family by now.
=Why didn't he just run and kill everybody? Why wait?
-Shut the the Hell up, Merces. I just want to fight you and watch you escape into the night.
=Okay, so first it's just the people, then thousands of people, now millions of people. Make up your mind!
-CAN EVERYBODY SHUT UP AND STOP REPEATING EACH OTHER?
=Freeze freeze freeze. I'm seeing a theme in the bosses, here.
=Efreet and Merces (Assassin) deal little damage. Not very threatening for a boss fight--and I was fleeing half the battles I encountered in this dungeon!
-He went into the castle? I just saw his charset disappear just like the Efreet's! How peculiar.
=Haha, the soldiers were impotent. I pity their lovers!
------------------End at 8:15. In-game playtime ~2 hours.

Summary: Annoying intro, annoying and redundant dialogue, numerous typos, decent characters, initially fun battle system, laggy dungeon and towns. Has bursts of fun and not-fun, and could use a difficulty injection. Not terrible, but not anywhere near a must-play.

Craze, I must congratulate you. You are the first ever person to give this a negative review. Nobody else ever told me about these faults before! Well, actually, they have, and as I've said countless times, they have been fixed for the CURRENT VERSION which is yet to be released, not the demo you played, which still has them intact. I also strongly object to your remark of "frequent typo's" as I don't count a couple of "it's" as "frequent typos".
The demo has no anti lag scripts, the lag is there in your version, and not there in the current version. I cleaned up the mapping as per some people's requests, I've streamlined the dialogue and I've said countless times how I've redone the intro. Judging me based on an old intro is NOT fair. I told everybody the new demo was not out yet, and I've admitted countless times the old one has problems. Thus, it is unfair for you to judge the game based on the old, now obsolete demo, and old problems that are now fixed.

I admit that not everybody will like my game (though everyone except you does) and hope that you can hold out for the new version and review again with renewed vigor.
Craze
You told me to play your game, so I did. Reading the topic beforehand was something that I did not do because my goal was to play the game. If you didn't like me saying what I thought about the current release that you have, then perhaps you shouldn't have a demo link to something you're not proud of. =D

There were more typos than just the annoying failure to appropriately use "it's". Many NPCs and some of the Ark/Guard Captain scenes had their fair share. Most of this was around the second half of the demo--Charn was victim to quite a few unfortunate wordings.

I'm sorry if you didn't like my less-than-worshipping notes. I did like parts of the game, and I hope you don't take this to heart and become antagonistic toward me. It would be a shame if a mod at a large and well-known community couldn't take a few constructive blows.

The lag in Demon Tower was fixed with a tiny patch, and the current download incorporates that fix. A link to the patch was placed right next to the download link in every Demon Tower topic on the internet and a post was made in each stated that said patch was released.

Although I'm sure a person of your integrity would not judge a demo without finishing it, did you ever progress past floor five of Demon Tower, which draws you in with its nostalgic graphics and general feel?

He can't judge you on stuff he's not able to see. You can't tell your beta testers that something is fixed in an unreleased version so they can't point out the old flaws anymore. Honestly, even though most of what Craze pointed out was negative, I have to say that was the most amazing review I've ever seen. I'm hoping to release a much updated demo of my game soon and Craze if you dissect my demo as much as you did Gaia's I'm gonna be one happy chappy. =D

I would like to add that as has been pointed out before, the battle tutorial is obscenely long and after a little while I just started skipping it all. I do understand you need to make the battle system quite clear for people new to RPG's, but most of us are not and your battle system is nowhere near as complicated for it to even need a tutorial. I would suggest maybe adding a book somewhere that will run a mock battle when you read it, should people wish to see the basics. Your call though, it's not a huge deal.

I haven't finished your demo yet, but I'll try and get it done today.
Dark Gaia
Actually Craze, I don't mean to come across as antagonistic, if that's what you've got the impression of. I actually appreciate that you've expressed what's wrong with the game, as I've said, all my beta testers (except for one) always sing the praises of the game and nothing else, so it is good to see what is wrong with the game too. What pissed me off though is that you simply pointed out problems I have fixed a long time ago and notified people about. It was partly my fault because I posted you a link to an outdated demo, but as I can't just churn out a new demo just like that, (though one is due soon) I expect you to keep in mind the shortcomings I have expressed and to remember that I have fixed them, so to point out the flaws I am aware of is not to my taste at all.

I apologize for seeming antagonisitc towards you, and I thank you for pointing out what people will NOT like about Legionwood. Also, I removed the comment I made about your game. That was innapropriate on my part and I had no right to make it. Please don't take it to heart. I actually think your game is not half bad. As you can see, until I have the time to actually sit down and read it, I cannot take negative criticism well.

EDIT: This has nothing to do with anything, but I just for the first time noticed your sig. I like it, that's an ad you don't see often.

EDIT EDIT: Now that I have lightened up a bit, reading through your review made me laugh, even when you were expressing the negative points. ("the blacksmith can make Cloth Armor with his hammer". lol. Even though it's a typical JRPG nonsense situation, you raise a valid point.) I can see exactly what a player would be thinking and that inspires me to fix it right away. I have immediately gone and sought out new versions of those scripts which have bad features, like "?"s in the equipping and blank boxes when you defend. They were old versions, so had bad features. Oh, and I've now started going through and "hacking the dialogue to bits" while fixing up as many of the typos as I can find.

...so to point out the flaws I am aware of is not to my taste at all.

Granted it's not very constructive for multiple people to point out the same problems, especially if you've already fixed them, but it's not only unprofessional but also bad for your reputation to claim it's 'not to your taste' to see that kind of thing. What else do you post your demo here for? You simply can't expect everyone who downloads your game to also read every post in the thread. That's very unreasonable.

QUOTE (Dark Gaia @ Dec 31 2008, 02:49 PM) *
The thing that made me think you were simply being antagonistic towards me is that you did not mention any positive things you found within the game, only negative ones. Was it that you didn't find any?

He did mention a lot of things that were positive, he even used + and = signs to point them out. But that aside I personally feel there's a significant difference between praise and negative criticism. I love praise (Hell, who doesn't?) but there's only so much a "This game is awesome!!111" can get you. What do you do with it? How can that help to make your game better? Idon't think it can. It keeps you going, but that's all. I would much rather get a list of bugs and features that people didn't particularly like or felt weren't developed properly. That is the key to improving your game.

I mean I dunno about anyone else, but when people point out mistakes in my game I love it. But then again maybe I'm just a masochist. tongue.gif
Dark Gaia
Dactrius, I'm sorry, but I hadn't actually sat down and read his post when I said that. Now I have, and I take that back, and I've edited my reply a little. I heartily apologize to the both of you here. I know phrases like "It's not to my taste" are unprofessional, but I phrased that wrong. nd yes, what is a demo for? I should have known he would judge the demo as is, not based on a version that he cannot yet play.

Now, let's please get off this and get onto topic. Oh, and if you have time, go play Craze's game.
kaz
Woah. I settled down for a read of the topic and hey, hey people cool it down.

I can understand Dark Gaia defending his game, and he has apologised for his remarks.

When members review a moderators game can they please keep that role out if any comments.

Yes DGaia is a moderator, but he is the game maker of Legionwood and should be judged on that. If he does not take critique well, then that is Dark gaia the person that replies, and has no bearing on his moderator abilities.

That aside Craze you are one hell of a beta tester (reminds me of me) and you took the time to type it all out. DarkG will be able to fine tune his game to perfection!

That I will. Thanks again to Craze, and thanks to Kaz for her bit too.
Craze
I accept apologies, and I'll surely try the new Legionwood demo when it arrives. I'll probably try to actually play it instead of spending half my time taking notes, which might make it more fun. =D

kaz: I'll try to remain unbiased when it comes to a community member's role.

If you don't make notes while playing it I'll never know if it has any flaws. biggrin.gif

Well, I'm just glad that we work this out. Good luck with your game.
Twinstargemini
Also I asked my sister and when she has time she will come on this board.

Anyway, on-topic, she asked me, do we buy magic again or do we learn it by leveling up?
Craze
You buy techs (not just magic, but physical attacks as well), but you learn Frenzy moves/overdrives by leveling up.
Twinstargemini
Okay, thank you Craze. Very helpful, I will tell her, also I like your the looks of your game. When would the full game be out?
demonlord5000
It will be a few more months I believe. Thats why he's trying to get out a better demo, to leave us a taste before the main course. That and it couldn't hurt to have views on a little bit more of the game. Anyways, if ya have any more questions, let me know.
Dark Gaia
Won't be long now till the demo is released. I'm just giving the finishing touches to One Night and then I can get started on that demo.

And in related news: Legionwood has won Project Of The Month Gold! Thanks to everyone who shows their support.
Twinstargemini
Yay! Go Darkgaia. Well done on winning it. You deserve it.
Dactrius
Big grats on the win! thumbsup.gif
l33tpie 6
Great job on Project of the Month, Dark Gaia! I managed to get on the internet whilst at my Grandparent's place for holidays and vote for Legionwood. Then I saw it didn't really need my vote because it was leading by far. Looking forward to the next update!
Twinstargemini
I don't think it needed mine either, it would have won without me.
Dark Gaia
Yes, well, I'm glad some people voted for it. This victory has really spurred me to push myself further in getting this game out. Not long now till the next demo, I promise!
Dark Gaia
Update:
Well, I got bored while waiting for my bandwidth to come back so's I can get the new demo online, plus my other game One Night, so I made a few minor changes.

1. I went through and changed all the little errors Craze pointed out in terms of grammar and such.

2. Increased the difficulty. Monsters are noticeably harder now. Also, I decreased the encounter rate by a fair amount, but to keep it fairly easy to level up, I increased the experience you recieve. So that equates to less battles but more experience, but harder battles too.

Keep your eyes open. As soon as I've got One Night up and running, it's full speed ahead on the second demo!
l33tpie 6
Excellent news, Dark Gaia! I've been waiting quite some time for the next demo to come out. But I just have a question about the current demo: Does Gaia's Cavern have any actual use or is it to be implemented?
Dark Gaia
In the new demo, it will have it's use implemented (which I'll keep secret) but as of the old demo, it and the Sprite Glade have no use.
FlyBoyUnder
Great Game!
Amazing! With Fogs, it is so... beauty!
I'm downloading! ^^
Dark Gaia
Just remember, that's the OLD demo. Some features are underdeveloped, or nonexistant. So bear that in mind. It also lags a lot. When the new deom is released, you'll have a much better version of the game to play.
l33tpie 6
I may have asked this before but when can we expect the next demo? I've recently been playing through Tales of Worlds and noticing some connections...
Dark Gaia
Well, now that One Night is safely out and over and done with, it's full speed ahead on Legionwood. I'd expect the new demo in around 3 - 4 weeks.

EDIT: I'll reveal that in a way Legionwood is a sequel to Tales Of Worlds, so it's good that you're playing through that as well. You could also say that One Night is Legionwood's sequel.
Dark Gaia
Unveiling the changes you will find in the Latest Demo!

1. New Menu System (this new one is an orthodox RM style menu, though features a bestairy option plus a party modifier)

2. New mapping. I have installed an entirely new tileset, making big changes to the maps, for the better.

3. New battle system. I have reduced the encounter rate, but enemies are now much harder and give more expeience and money.

4. New character strategy. Five new characters will be present, plus more abilities have been released, such as passive ones.

5. New graphics. A new, custom made title screen exclusive to LW plus a new windowskin, and enhancements to facesets (more expressions) and character sprites.

6. New soundtrack. Featuring new battle music, world map music and other epic songs exclusive to LW.

7. New content. About 4 hours of content can be expected in the new demo.

8. Completely Streamlined. No lag, and faster, redone dialogue with an easier to read stylized font.

9. Easier for the Begginer. No more searching barrels or speaking to NPCs for hours. Important objects and people are marked with a special icon, allowing you to speed through the game!

10. Two games in one! Gameplay frequently switches between two different scenarios. The normal one involving Lann, and a prequel scenario involving Lann's father Glamis.
l33tpie 6
Wow! There's no way my game will be able to compete with this o.o" One thing I don't really get is the lag. I never, ever had a bit of lag while I was playing your game. Then again, my computer is pretty epic..2GB Ram, 2.6 GHz proccessor. I'm intrigued to see what this new tileset is, could it be mack? Also the idea of two games in one sounds great! Really, really looking forward to the next demo!
Dark Gaia
Well, there's SOME Mack in the tilesets, but I'll let you in on a secret. Most of the new tiles are my OWN edits and creations. The edits are mainly of the RTP tiles, but there's a lot of new custom ones too.

The lag... While it's true neither you or I experienced it... Apparently some did, so I had to take care of the matter.

I hoped you'd all like the "alternate scenarios" idea. Only about a month now until this demo's release!
Michael
I love this game. It's very much detailed in it. I have a few questions because I'm abit of a noob when it comes to the graphic's of RPG Maker VX.

Questions
1) How did you make that trees/cloud refection in the game. Like on the ground you can make a shadow of moving clouds and tree leaves waving about.

2) How do you create fog in a game so it looks like it's raining?

3) How did you change the text in the game? Is it a script or something? please tell me about these things

If it's a script on any of them please PM me about the scripts and how you did it. I'd really like to know. And I don't know if you mind me posting questions here. Please move this reply if it's in the wrong spot. I do not know.

Thanks hopefuly,
UltiHaker
l33tpie 6
UtiHaker, this topic tells you how to change the text in the game.
Dark Gaia
And as for the fogs and reflections, they are just pictures that are layed over the screen via Show Picture.

P.S

Keep an eye out for all the Team Gaia productions in our new Team Gaia Subforum! Coming soon!
l33tpie 6
So we're getting the subforum at last. This is great news! How soon can we expect it? (PM me the answer if you don't want to say it here)
Also does this mean we will get our own member group?
Dark Gaia
Well, Darkling officially told me today the forum will be granted. Perhaps within the next two weeks or so I'd say. We don't get our own user group, but of course, a sub forum is enough.

As a member of Team Gaia, you're entitled to place your project into the forum as well.
l33tpie 6
Sounds great. Hopefully I'll have little homework and be able to get my next demo out in time for the forum.

On-topic: Though you may not have any plans for it, will Lann & Liara be returning in Legionwood 2?
Dark Gaia
I have plans for five further Legionwood titles after this one (though only 2 or so will actually get made most likely) and Lann and Liara are unfortunately exclusive to this game only. 1000's of years span the difference between Legionwood games.

Here's a little secret. Watch out for Merces as the main character of a future title. Oh, and keep an eye out for the return of Ark as well.

Lann will return as well, though that will be in One Night 2.
Canuck
That's great news! My project is underway as well and I guess I'll post it there in a bit.
