Genesis

Abstract: The story is based off the book of Genesis. I change some things to make it fit into an rpg but, it is meant to go through the whole book chronologically.
Genre: This game would be classified as dark and historic. It is a very serious game. It's an rpg btw if I didn't make it clear earlier.
Engine: RPG Maker VX Ace

edit: this game is 5-6 hours long so far and it is going commercial. I've deleted the demo (since it's too long) and will be making a shorter one. The mods can shut this thread down if they want to. I'll try getting my game on Amaranth as well as a few other sites. I plan on releasing this game in short 5-6 hour segments. I'm guessing that'll be 3-4 games. Hope you enjoyed my game...and want to buy the full product.

edit2: You can buy the complete version for $5 at Genesis

or you can try out the free demo: http://www.mediafire.com/?2r4srl5aur3r8db

Story
Merton and Maria live in the town of Eden. It is paradise and nothing ever goes wrong... until one fateful day. Merton and Maria are exiled from Eden and live in solitude until Orpheus, Merton's friend stumbles into them. What begins is a story of redemption and an attempt to restore the human race back to its original form.

Setting
So far, it takes place in a pre-flood world. People live 700+ years and angels and giants roam the world. This is the world currently portrayed in the demo. It will expand into more modern times as the story progresses.

Characters
Merton:The main protagonist. He has a strong sense of duty but, this does not prepare him for his exile and the hard labor that follows later in his life. He is a knight who specializes in swords and defensive skills.

Maria: Merton's wife. She is curious and this leads to very serious consequences for more than just herself. She is a white mage specializing in curative and wind magic

Orpheus: Merton's friend. He has a short temper and is very independent and self-willed. He is the one that offers Merton to leave his life of solitude and visit the City. Orpheus is a warrior that uses lances and specializes in offensive skills.

Lance: A righteous man before God. In an age of wickedness Lance still remains faithful to God. Lance's faith is not overlooked by God.
Lance is a Green Mage who uses earth and status magic.

Azer: He claims the world is coming to and end and that God will cause it to rain upon the earth for 40 days. Everyone thinks he is crazy. But, is he?

Screen Shots

Features
I'm using many yanfly battle engine ace scripts to make the battles look and flow better.

I have a synthesis system done entirely through events where you pay a fee and use up some items to make rare accessories, items, etc.

So basically you are basing your game off of scripture but twisting it?

Yeah. The stories are EXACTLY like the bibles ones. I just changed the names and made it an rpg. I'm trying to stay as faithful to the Bible as I can. But, it's an allegory so some things are just symbolic. Whenever I use verses it is out of the 1611 KJV Bible.
My 3 hour demo ends right before the flood. I don't know how long my project will be but, as long as I have interest in it I'll keep adding material.

Just got to "The City". I think you have a good concept. The scripts you use for the interface are nice. Can't comment on gameplay much since I mostly watched a lot of cutscenes, but combat looks like it has potential to be fun. Some thoughts...

I originally was hoping you were completely sticking with the Bible stories, which you say is your intention, but if that's what you want to do why invent characters, places, etc.? The Adam and Eve story could make a fun game as a survival epic. I made a game based on The Epic of Gilgamesh, which contains some of the same stories from Genesis (although it was written 2,000 years prior - the god Enlil from Gilgamesh is similar to the God of the Bible). Probably about 85% of the main plot I lifted straight from the text. I had to invent a couple scenes and add dialogue to play up character conflicts to make it more fun as a game, but if a good story already exist and it's copyrighted, why not use it? I do commend you for your interesting NCPs.

I like your use of biblical quotes, but sometimes the tone of the narration and dialog clash, especially when characters use words like "Jerk". I'm not a good plot writer (I write poetry), so I'd suggest seeking feedback and the writing forums. It's not bad at all, but getting some feedback from other writers could make it better. Good start though!

Oh and also...the music. You need some variety in the soundtrack. The same elevator piano track shouldn't be playing when the characters are having a friendly chat and when they are being expelled by God from Eden smile.gif I felt like I was watching a slient-era film, which could be a cool effect but you'd need to make everything black and white as well.

I'm trying to use classical music and it's hard to pick out the appropriate music sometimes. I'll definitely try to make it more appropriate when I find the right pieces to match the scene. I eventually want to have no rtp music (although some of the battle themes aren't bad).

I had a set of names picked out for another game and decided to use them for this instead. But, I'm bad at picking out names so, for the next segments of the game I'll stick to the original names.
I have to invent some places to create the atmosphere of an rpg (towns, dungeons, weapons, etc.) but, as I've said earlier I want to keep the integrity of the story and the intentions of the text. I can see your point in making an entire game from just one story in the Bible but, I'd like to cover the whole book of Genesis (that means a LOT of characters. lol).
I have always been a huge J-rpg fan and that is why my game looks the way it does. I throw in a dungeon whenever I feel there has been a prolonged period of no battles and a lot of dialogue.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Something that could help you (it helped me) is to study the time period of the Bible and the geography and politics of the time it was written. Doing that gave me some direction in terms of design and writing.
