I'm thinking about a class/skill system sort of based off the Myers-Briggs personality test. In the test, there are four categories with two sides each, and everyone leans more toward one side or the other in each category. Then you take the first letter of each side you lean toward and that's your personality type. The categories are:

Introvert/Extrovert
Sensing/Intuitive
Feeling/Thinking
Judging/Perceiving

For example, I'm an INTP, and that combination supposedly says something about my strengths and weaknesses.

So I was thinking of a system like that, where you can distribute points over different dichotomies that would make you stronger and one area and weaker in the other. For example, the categories could be:

Black Mage/White Mage
Fighter/Defender
Protector/Saboteur
(I can't think of anymore right now)

Let's say you have 9 points for each category, and if I give 6 points on the Black Mage side and 3 on White Magic, the character can learn up to level 6 black magic spells and up to level 3 white magic spells. If I give 8 to Fighter and 1 to Defender, then the character will have higher attack but less defense and less agility.

Does this make any sense? Does anyone have suggestions for categories?

I think it's an excellent idea. However, I don't think a type of personality should be something that affects classes, as I didn't like Defender, Protector, and Saboteur. My advice is that, instead of affecting classes, it should affect stats, and knowing what stats your characters are, it would be logical to give them classes according to their specialties, just like in real life smile.gif

Introvert/Extrovert
Sensing/Intuitive
Feeling/Thinking
Judging/Perceiving

Magic Attack/Attack
Agility/Luck
Defense/Magic Defense
Max HP/Max MP

But again, it's my opinion. Your idea is pretty awesome by itself. smile.gif
