Slurp Cut (Chrono Trigger)Style animation Options

Like the title says, I have a character with a chain attached to a weapon that I want to hurl at things on the screen, and pull it back to him. I think the Jump command could work pretty sufficiently for the appearance purpose but having a 'trail' of chain links is where I'm drawing a blank and figured I'd post.

If such a script / event sequence exists it didn't turn up from web surfing.
