I've searched the forums and found a couple of articles that address the quest type I wish to make, however the instructions are too vague for me. I've tried for days and can''t get this to work so please help if you can. I want to make a quest where you kill x number of monsters and turn the quest in once you've completed the task. I've tried using variables and conditional branches and nothing seems to work. Thanks if you can help.

First you will have to make battle sequences through events... it can't be just a random monster battle generated by the map..
After that, you can incorporate the variables if you win (Add +1 variable 001)... And then make it a condition on the event to turn the switch that completes the quest. (Condition: Variable: X amount of variable 001)

Hope that helps for the variable use anyways.

Thanks for trying to help, I think this quest idea is a bit over my head however as I've been trying for days without any resolution Well after a frustrating week it looks as though I have finally found a solution to my problem in a small tutorial that I happened to run across. So hopefully this is now solved..

Actually, it is possible to make it happen within a random encounter. What battle system are you using?

yeah it would actually, make a troop set and put in a conditional that checks if x switch is on and if x switch is on put in a conditional for each monster in the troop to +1 to x variable and make sure u put the span = Moment so it keeps repeating.

Thanks for the help guys, I did find a tutorial that taught me how to make it happen in a random encounter. At least with the default battle system that is. I don't know about other systems.
