Abstract- Rebels have risen against the crown, a movement spurred by a mistake the king made years ago. Whether by fate or chance, something stirs, threatening to turn legends and myths into reality.
Genre- Medieval Fantasy
Platform- RPG Maker VX

Support: Recruitment

Everything has rules, from the mortal that follows the rule of death to the god that cannot interact with mortals. These are called the Universal Laws. The universe dictates what each and every being is capable of, able to draw out a plan and set patterns for life. In a sense, we are all bound and caged by these laws, but what if someone was able to break the laws? One could do anything.

Lyna is a young officer in the king's army, fighting a war for a younger dead brother. The rebels rise against the crown because of a mistake the king had made years ago and all of Alteria is on edge. Just as Lyna is able to turn the tides and it seems the rebels are being pushed back, everything changes.

The world is called Merum, and the only known continent is Alteria, where it seems endless ocean meets with land. The kingdom of Alteria is ruled by King Hydul III, a fair, if bit overly logical king. There are orcs, goblins, ogres, and humans, which are split into four sub-races; Alterians (akin to 'normal' humans), Barbarians (whom have the ability to increase their awareness for a time), Cerins (humans that are physically weaker, but more magically adept), and the Kilee (dark-skinned humans who are known as the best sword arms). The land is mostly plains, but there are three major forests and two mountain ranges.

Merum as a whole does host magic in the form of Focus and Words. Focus being akin to one's magical energy and Words being akin to spells. With focus and a spoken word from an ancient language, a Magi (anyone who knows magic) can produce a variety of effects based on the base word.

Lyna
Age: 23
Gender: Female
Personality: A little naive, but a confident woman that holds volumes of resolve. More of her personality will develop as dialog is written.
Biography: Lyna grew up in Terum. Her father was a guardsmen and had taught her and her younger brother how to fight. During her time at the academy, she was lucky enough to gain entrance into Magic 101 and learned the basics. However at the age of 22, the rebellion started against the crown. In a quick bout, her younger brother was killed in a raid by the rebels. So seeking some sort of closure, she joined the king's army, hoping to end the war that had killed her brother. At the beginning of the story, she's serving as an officer at Fort Summer.

King Hydul
Age: 47
Gender: Male
Personality: A fair and just ruled, but perhaps lacking in the empathy department. About twelve years ago, when he lead a small war against the orcs, he had pulled troops away from Lycana to protect his nobles. A mistake that some say he will regret.
Biography: As a prince he was a normal young man, but when his mother and father passed away at the age of eleven, he turned a bit cold. Though he kept fair judgements, he's since then seemed older and more distant.

Kyle
Age: ???
Gender: ???
Personality: A fiery and passionate leader that displays control over emotions. For whatever reason, people tend to want to believe Kyle, a making for a natural leader.
Biography: Claiming to be part of the raid on Lycana twelve years ago, Kyle lost a young wife in the following battle. Kyle has since then trained and made contacts and issued a rebellion against the crown for their inhuman sacrifice.

Elena
Age: 25
Gender: Female
Personality: Most would consider Elena strange. She's as causal as she is excited, mixing expressions to the point that some don't understand her. She has a good heart though and a sharp mind.
Biography: Besides being a Magi, there's not much that's known about her.

If this isn't a random encounter game, I suggest the Lufia Movement Script since you already have the character menu for it. Just a thought if you're going for a more Lufia-ish style.
I don't see much to comment story wise, but the setting sounds very intuitive and inviting. I also like your mapping style as well.

By the way, you may want to change the background in that skill tree; that background is the default, isn't it?

Honestly, I've never played Lufia ... so I'm not sure how that game handles encounters. In fact, I just [now] watched a video of it, lol. I'm only using the menu script because I really enjoy how it looks. However, as random encounters go .... if I do anything, it'll probably mimic the popular "you see the enemy and running into them starts a battle."

Yes, I'll likely change that background in the future. On that note, my plot is already set ... since I'd like to keep most in the dark, if you really want to comment on the story, I can try and develop a summary for you, but without going into too much depth, you might have questions. =P

Oh great, I use that one. But yeah, it works well for all its simplicity.

My plan for my game was wrapping anything that may spoil the story in well... spoiler tags. So it's up to the discretion of the people reading the post to whether or not they want to spoil the story.
You can do that or just leave your story as it is. A bit of mystery is compelling, yeah. I just find a story is a big thing to comment on. Good luck though, I think this will turn out great.

Well, I added the general summary of the story ... but I warn others that it may very well ruin the entire plot if you plan on playing it at all.

Yeah this is a really great, original story. Without repeating much of what's said in the story, I like how it starts and ends with Eruix, makes it all the more interesting.
But yeah, all you need is a big finish xD a plot twist or something, you could say.

***** Suggestions *****

Well, the game starts with Lyna as an officer ... so anything before Lyna's story would be unknown to player and to Lyna. That's the twist.

Interesting! I look forward to seeing more. Might have to start playing RPG Maker games again; I may pick this one up first when it's done.

This one sounds interesting, and so far I like what I've seen. The story sounds a bit fresh, and I like the custom menus that you have going on. I really don't see the need to detail your game's plot as you've done, unless you're trying to get ideas to help flesh it out.

Not sure what you mean by not needing details ... if you mean the spoiler, it's because someone asked for it.
Besides that, thank you! I'm glad the plot seems original.

Ah, yes, I meant the Spoiler. Surprised somebody would ask about the plot of the game, when usually the background story would suffice. Eitherway, I'll keep a look out for updates.

So... should I post in recruitment or ask here? I'm looking for some help when it comes to the battle system. Besides scripting, it's one of my weak points - trying to come up with abilities, enemies, enemy skills, balancing it all, etc.

Sorry, yeah. I asked for more information about the story.
It does suffice... I was just more curious if anything.

I think recruitment would be your best bet; I've never posted there but people usually just list the spots they need filled and what they have to do in those positions. If they ask what your game is about... link them here.

But if you need help scripting on battle systems, that's one tough spot to fill.

No, not the scripting part ... just balancing all the abilities.

Update I
Made a little progress, despite being in college, going to work, studying for a promotion, and having a girlfriend, lol. I've nearly gotten the first area down, though there's not too much to explore since I want to put the player right into the plot. Also added a compromised system between the question of, "do I let the player talk to every NPC and find side-quests himself?" or "do I add exclamation marks to point out where quests are?"

The compromise I settled with was about every 3-4 seconds, any NPC that has a quest lights up for a second until the player gets next to them. Once the player has recognized the NPC (by standing near them) it disables the flashing. To me, this was the best was to let people know where quests were without ruining the immersion too much.

Also, I could really use a Battle Designer. Basically this person would come up with enemies (within certain perimeters, as to not ruin the setting or immersion), weapons, items, equations, and balancing it all. This includes being able to fiddle with the skill tree script I installed. In either case, here's the link if anyone is interested; Recruitment Topic.

I'll keep you updated. =)

• Minor Update I •

Okay, so just a minor update to get other opinions. What do you guys think of the new menu background? The castle in the corner is supposed to be the image for chapter 1 and in theory, should be replaced when you get to chapter 2 (assuming I can figure it out / Edit: Will probably need a scripter's help for this).

Minor Update II

Welcome I Think (Battle Designer) and MrGuy0250 (Composer) to the team! So far, MrGuy0250 has composed a neat little battle theme for Chapter I, while I Think has shown great potential in being able to design and balance the combat system. When the demo finally comes out, please let us know how to improve, whether it's events, story, music, combat, or otherwise!

• Update II •

It's been a little while, but I finally have another update! This update includes the very first demo release! Keep in mind that it only lasts maybe ten minutes or so, but it gives a taste of what's been done so far. The combat system isn't quite up to par yet, but that's only because I Think is busy on working on the entire system before releasing me a copy, but everything else should be polished. If there's anything you want to comment on or if you find any bugs, feel free to reply. Thanks.

Read below.
