Hey there! Glacia is a project that has been in development for more than 3 years now. We have released the final version of Chapter One, and we are posting this here to draw more attention to it. If you have not previously installed the RPG Maker VX RTP (Or don't know what that is), download the Glacia: Chapter One v2.2 RTP Included version of the game below. If you download the regular version, you will also have to download and install the RPG Maker VX RTP from the RTP Standalone link below.



Glacia is a retro/old-school JRPG style game following an epic tale of kingdoms, magic, and betrayal. This is the first of five chapters.

Glacia was initially conceived and developed by CaptainRegal in September of 2008. Since then, several people have assisted with parts of Glacia's design, and the game is currently being developed by CaptainRegal and DarkBox.

We've estimated Chapter One to provide between 5 and 7 hours of game play, and we'll be keeping it around this same amount of game play for every chapter that we release hereafter.



Rain Garshon, the naive young prince of Glacia, awakens to find his wife strangely absent from their bed. Unbeknownst to him, this marks the beginning of nation-shaking treachery that will turn his once blessed life to utter ruin in a single night.

This perpetrator of this betrayal, none other than his very own wife Lailah Garshon, has made it impossible for Rain to return to his kingdom. Now, Rain must travel the world of Elesca searching for proof of his lineage.

However, what he finds is something sinister waiting in his family tree. Before Rain can take back Glacia's throne, he must first discover if it was ever his to begin with.

through force, murdering the King and turning the nation against
Prince Rain. Her motivation is unknown."



Blaze Trofield

Origin: The Hamlet
"A soldier of Firia, and Becca's husband. Blaze is dedicated to
helping Rain regain his throne."



Becca Trofield

Origin:Big Flame City
"A soldier in the Firian military. She despises killing, but will
always do what is necessary."



Spider Wessin

Origin:Flora City
"The most skilled archer in the Kingdom of Flora. Loyal to a
fault, Spider would rather die than break a promise."

I played the game as far as Combustion and
Story spoilers are inside.
I have to go to Flora City and ask its chief about the city's alignment, and go to Ancient Temple as well.

The story itself is a bit of sudden, and we are taken straight into the centre of the action. The king and the queen of Firia (I might still get some names wrong) kinda shocked me that they acted so calmly and warmly regarding the Prince, but I actually liked them both which is not something common with me.

Outside of the story... The inn charges are quite wild. The Hamilton charges nothing, Ember charges 50, and the City along with Combustion charges 100 which are, at least for me, to high, so I would charge them the half price. Another thing, sidequests are fun to do, but having to report every single one just to unlock a new one is strange as I don't suppose the Adventurer's Guild would be great by doing "one thing at a time."

Well, if you haven't reported the quest back, how will the guild know it's been done? There are other adventurers in guilds across Elesca that are also doing quests for them, so I wouldn't call that one thing at a time!
As for the Inns, they are meant to be expensive to encourage you to use healing potions, alchemy, spells, etc instead of simply walking back to the nearest town and instantly being healed for a penny per night.
The King and Queen have a lot of people relaying them information, so it's not really a surprise to them when Rain shows up. Not only that, but Blaze is a loyal warrior in Firia, and as such the King and Queen trust what he says. Rain has also been to Firia before to meet them, considering how Firia and Glacia used to be allies, so they do remember who he is. Ha ha and finally, the King and Queen rule Firia, so they know very well that the imposter doesn't exist, and if Lailah is lying about the imposter it's very possible she was lying about everything else as well.

I agree with the guild thing. But inn's should really be rethought out. Given the monsters tend to respawn when going to a location, I can't see the dependence on potions/spells/alchemy being broken if inns were a tad cheaper.

Overall I like the game thus far. But little things are bugging me, like the Captain just going, "BYE." to the prince and leaving him to fend for himself while he is likely target number one. I mean, he's an experienced military man. It just strikes me as lack of common sense.

Also, when you're playing as Captain paper work you can save in the forest, I don't know if it's intentional or not.

If you take what the inns do, completely heal your hp, completely replenish your mp, cure all status effects, and do this for your entire party and compare it with the cost of buying an hp pot, mp pot, a status cure, for even one character.... You're getting a huge bargain. There's no reason that inns should just cost willy nilly gold. You can already stay at an inn with the gold from just two battles.
As for the Captain dropping you off, it's explained that he needs to go ahead to Firia to explain the situation and get it set up so that they can get back to Glacia right away. The Hamlet is the safest place in Elesca, pretty much. The weather there is always mild, everyone is friendly, there isn't a safer place to be. Not only that, but Blaze lives there, Rain's friend. If you talk to any NPC's or anything you'll be told that.

I was well aware of that. However, it still makes little sense that a military man would abandon a VIP, till he was sure he was safe. I mean, wouldn't his wife be gunning for him. I would think she would have an assassin or two available to her to send to keep an eye on possible locations he could show, like where his friends live, people he would try to contact, ect. (I was kinda hoping for one.) It wasn't an "I am not paying attention." It was more of a the situation didn't make sense.

For the inns. I don't mind it exactly, but if they were lower it would make it easier early on. Learning new skills takes awhile, which at the start seems to leave our heroes mostly with just limit breaks and normal attacks, and that can just be tedious instead of fun. The cheaper inn services could result in folks going for better gear to help the battles move a bit quicker. Also, inn's aren't like potions, you can only use them in the cities where they are located. I always viewed the extra cost for the usefulness of portable healing.

Although, I am digging the combat system, and for what it's worth. I am still enjoying the game overall so thanks for the hard work guys. smile.gif

Okay, I understand where you're coming from. The only thing I have to say about that is that Lailah didn't anticipate Rain's escape, so she wasn't able to send her assassins out like that. I get how it doesn't make sense to you, though.
As for the inns, we might look at curving the prices a bit more earlier. I also see where you're coming from here.

Hello. I played through part of the demo last night. I died during the boss battle at the base in the forest, and I had forgotten to save before completing Rain's section...so that set me back a lot. Save anywhere is a great feature, but I always forget to save if there are no save points or reminders (am I the only person to have this problem?). I have a few other thoughts:

- The GUI, HUD and text boxes look AWESOME.
- Your alchemy system seems potentially very fun. Unique concept (at least I haven't seen it elsewhere)
- I don't understand how to use skills...which made battle very boring for me. I'm not sure if I missed something, but how do you assign and use them? I thought I assigned Water Kick to Rain, but it's always gray so I can never use it
-The World Map looks good but lags - are you using an anti-lag script?
- The story and characters overall are interesting, but I think Rain's attitude toward his wife changes way too quickly. Finding out your wife is trying to murder you is pretty hard-to-deal with. Some additional monologues might improve his character development.
- I noticed several typos (mostly involving punctuation) in the text. Let me know if you need a grammar editor :-)

Overall good work - I'm looking forward to seeing more!

Okay, I understand where you're coming from. The only thing I have to say about that is that Lailah didn't anticipate Rain's escape, so she wasn't able to send her assassins out like that. I get how it doesn't make sense to you, though.
