Heya.

I have been doing some fiddling around with the VX maker and I was wonder if anyone could help me,

I tried to build a village that looked like it was on fire ( For example was attacked and its on fire,up in flames)

Has anyone got any idea on how you would do this? some of the tiles I have tried using just didnt look right and its started to bug me xD

Thanks in advance smile.gif

One of the most difficult things about being a designer using RMVX is that you have a very specific or a somewhat "beyond you" concept you wish to use.

You find that the resources aren't readily available to get the image out in the way you want it. It can be frustrating, especially because it can delay you.

My first suggestion is to consider what kind of emotion you want to convey with the scene.
My second is to draw it out on paper. Even if it doesn't look good just draw something out on paper. Paper is disposable, easy to find more, and a great canvas to start at.
Third be sure to include the details and everything you want to have happen in the scene.

My suggestion with VX is to use a mixture of animated fire and explosion effects. I have no doubt you can find a few fire character sheets and animations that could work, or even use some of the animations provided and turn them into character sets via shrinking them. Resources exist aplenty, and with free programs like GIMP it's easy enough to make your own.

Otherwise you may just have to make due with what you got provided.

Another thing that really conveys this, is the use of tone. Set your screen tone to a deep orange, maybe with the occasional red flash that occurs at random intervals. If you have the town before and during then you might also consider changing up the houses to show damage from the fire, like using burnt roof tiles or such, also maybe have sections of grass burning or the trees on fire. It'll all help the tone.

Another major player is the sound, find a good song that fits the mood and maybe even add the fire BGS to the map to give the full 360 effect of sound/sight and emotion.

Yeah, also considerate if there are people, make them running around in panic, or add voices of shouting, rather easy to find and easy to convey, having voices or people on the ground, knocked out or dead, adding voices of shouting, or even the occasional "Active Cutscenes".

By this, I mean wherein a player walks up to a certian house or walls, and watching a brief cutscene in which a wall collapses. To make this more dramatic you can add like a "Pan Screen Left" command in a cutscene where a player walks over, it pans the screen left and the screen shakes, and a wall falls down and creates a blockage, or knocks over something. Again, rather easy to do, if you don't have the animations, you can always just flash the screen and move the charactersets arond a little.

Along with the previous said, this'll really create an atmosphere where the player feels they are invloved in the fire.
