Okay so I have a habit of renaming my games half way through LOL!! Anyways I've completely gutted Tale of Rings and renamed it VERGO The Jade Ring. The Jade Ring (VTJR) has a completely revamped story (not that many people out there knew the story of Tale of Rings but...) and graphics. I've switched to parallax mapping and am actually proud of the turnout so far. Feel free to check out the topics here and comment. Feedback is VERY welcome and desired at this stage in development.

STORY

Seven years after Plagarus' defeat the seven Shadow Army magistrates vie for dominion of the realm. Garrack (the most powerful of the magistrates) receives a small Jade Ring. The diety that gave the ring to him demands Garrack bring peace to the land of Attor. The Jade Ring gives Garrack incredible abilities and Garrack, drunk with power, begins destroying the other magistrates and crushing any who resist.

Jason finds himself again fighting to destroy tyranny and restore balance to the realm but when you decide any means is acceptable to destroy evil you can easily become exactly what you are fighting. On a small farm west of the town Ela a boy awaits his journey. Will he be able to help Jason overcome his anger? Will he be able to stop Garrack from becoming the next Plagarus? Can he find out who gave Garrack the ring to begin with and what the ring is for? Why should he even care? The answers lie in...

Sweyn is the Hero's brother. He is a bit irritable and doesn't like to joke much. Sweyn's story will be written by the choices that the Hero makes throughout the game.


Name: Muriel
Species: Human
Temperament: Mature, happy
Age: 18
Eyes: Red
Weapon Choice: ???

Muriel is the girlfriend of the Hero's brother Sweyn. She remains calm yet instructive throughout the game. Muriel's story will be told by the choices of the Hero.


Name: Ky Yen
Species: Dwarf
Temperament: No-nonsense, mature
Age: 28
Eyes: Blue
Weapon Choice: Staff

Ky Yen is a no non-sense master sorcerer who helped Jason defeat Plagarus. She does not put up very well with laziness, evil, or stupidity. She will be one of the hardest characters to get a high influence with (just ask Valem). Valem and Ky Yen will do everything they can to stop the darkness that is coming.

Temperament: Calm, Mature
Age: 29
Eyes: Blue
Weapon Choice: Sword

Garrack strikes fear into the hearts of all who cross his path. The power of the Jade Ring gives him near immortality and corrupts his temperment and judgment. Garrack was a respected magistrate and was fair to all kingdoms in his control before receiving the ring and maybe destroying the ring could free him.

Species: Gold Fox
Temperament: Deceptive, Playful
Age: ?
Eyes: Gold
Weapon Choice: ???

Nura is a cursed Gold Fox that the Hero finds in trouble on his journey. Does Nura play an important role in the outcome of the realm or is she just a distraction?

Species: Human
Temperament: Mature
Age: 27
Eyes: Blue
Weapon Choice: VERGO

The grandson of Plagarus still holds VERGO and will stop at nothing to make sure Flarus is never released from the sword. Jason will also give his all to insuring evil does not take control of Attor.

Temperament: Talkative, Mature, Sarcastic
Age: 535
Eyes: Blue
Weapon Choice: Long-Bow

Valem only wishes to help Jason in his current travels and couldn't care less about the current Hero and his goals. You will be hard pressed to convince him to be of much help.

Temperament: Mature

Eyes: Brown
Weapon Choice: ???

Elizabeth is the mother of the Hero. The typical motherly figure any boy absolutly loves. Ky Yen takes a liking to Liz and asks if she'd like to learn sorcery. Will she accept? Will the Hero allow his mother to come with them???

Real-Time Action Battles using a heavily modified Yggdrasil Core
Skill casting has been added to the battle system. If the skill has an instant damage area (not a ranged attack) there's a cast time needed.
AI Engine for battles: Proper skill usage (AI uses skills that are relevant to that time), AI will try to flee their target if they start casting (this has a cooldown though).
Parallax Mapping

Post Office Letters that unlock party member quests.

New screenshots have been added to the mix. My water has gone through all kinds of renditions; from cloudy blue to just plain weird to what it is now. I think I'm keeping it Tell me what you think about it. Also the latest dungeon screenshots are towards the bottom (lots of teal tints). The dungeon is called Thunder Tower and has some really good puzzles in it. One new battle screenshot has been uploaded as well.

I'll constantly be updating screenshots throughout my time building this game.

as sailerius said, the char faceset is....bad, just bad , really uncomfortable to look at , is there gonna be a fix?
the name of the title is kindda readable , but the title screen look really messy and random, the lighting makes it uncomfortable to concentrate reading the name, especialy on top of "tale".
class selection is very good, nice to look at, did you make that yourself?

Yes there will be a fix for this. I just haven't got around to making the new facesets yet.

Ok, thank you for this. It's hard sometimes when you're the designer and you already know what it says. Sometimes you don't realize others can't read it. I'll fix this.

Yes, VX mapping is quite boxy. I'm a really bad mapper though, I'd like someone to help out with that. I'm hyperactive and I get bored very quickly LOL
