Okay so I have a habit of renaming my games half way through LOL!! Anyways I've completely gutted Tale of Rings and renamed it VERGO The Jade Ring. The Jade Ring (VTJR) has a completely revamped story (not that many people out there knew the story of Tale of Rings but...) and graphics. I've switched to parallax mapping and am actually proud of the turnout so far. Feel free to check out the topics here and comment. Feedback is VERY welcome and desired at this stage in development.

STORY
Story


World Map





The land of Remkore lays war torn and shattered after the defeat of the evil wizard Plagarus. Plagarus' own grandson Jason rose up and defeated him in an epic battle between good and evil. Now a massive power vacuum exists as shattered remnants of Plagarus army thrash about with no one to lead them. Amidst the chaos, the angel Iris delivers a ring to one of Plagarus' most noble magistrates, Garrack. Iris commands Garrack to bring peace and order to Remkore by using the power of the Jade Ring. The Jade Ring gives Garrack immense power and magic. Garrack immediately starts his quest by eliminating the remaining magistrates under Plagarus and takes control of the Shadow Army.

Plagarus had made a deal with the Arch-Demon, Flarus to destroy all the forces of evil but was tricked and made a servant of the demon for all of eternity. Plagarus was made immortal by Flarus and was only able to be killed by the heavenly sword, VERGO. His curse was only lifted when Jason finally was able to kill Plagarus with the VERGO. Once Plagarus was defeated, Jason imprisoned Flarus inside the sword where he waits to take his vengeance upon all mankind. Flarus' servant demons called Demon-Heads are searching for a way to free Flarus from his holy prison.

Garrack began searching for the Demon-Heads to destroy them and once again bring peace to Remkore. Our story begins here where a young boy is thrust into the darkness. Can he save the continent of Remkore and ultimately all of mankind from Flarus' power? The answer lies in VERGO The Jade Ring!

Main character in VTJR. This young boy will be a catalyst in an immense war between evil and extremely evil. Can any good come of the current state of things?


Name: Selwyn
Species: Human
Temperament: Irritable
Age: 16
Eyes: Blue
Weapon Choice: ???

Sweyn is the Hero's brother. He is a bit irritable and doesn't like to joke much. Sweyn's story will be written by the choices that the Hero makes throughout the game.


Name: Muriel
Species: Human
Temperament: Mature, happy
Age: 18
Eyes: Red
Weapon Choice: ???

Muriel is the girlfriend of the Hero's brother Selwyn. She remains calm yet instructive throughout the game. Muriel's story will be told by the choices of the Hero.


Name: Ky Yen
Species: Dwarf
Temperament: No-nonsense, mature
Age: 28
Eyes: Blue
Weapon Choice: Staff

Ky Yen is a no non-sense master sorcerer who helped Jason defeat Plagarus. She does not put up very well with laziness, evil, or stupidity. She will be one of the hardest characters to get a high influence with (just ask Valem). Valem and Ky Yen will do everything they can to stop the darkness that is coming.

Temperament: Calm, Mature
Age: 29
Eyes: Blue
Weapon Choice: Sword

Garrack strikes fear into the hearts of all who cross his path. The power of the Jade Ring gives him near immortality and corrupts his temperment and judgment. Garrack was a respected magistrate and was fair to all kingdoms in his control before receiving the ring and maybe destroying the ring could free him.

Temperament: Deceptive, Playful

Nura is a cursed Gold Fox that the Hero finds in trouble on his journey. Does Nura play an important role in the outcome of the realm or is she just a distraction?

Species: Human
Temperament: Mature
Age: 27
Eyes: Blue
Weapon Choice: VERGO

The grandson of Plagarus still holds VERGO and will stop at nothing to make sure Flarus is never released from the sword. Jason will also give his all to insuring evil does not take control of Attor.

Species: Elf
Temperament: Talkative, Mature, Sarcastic
Age: 535
Eyes: Blue
Weapon Choice: Long-Bow

Valem only wishes to help Jason in his current travels and couldn't care less about the current Hero and his goals. You will be hard pressed to convince him to be of much help.


Name: Elizabeth
Species: Human
Temperament: Mature
Age: 39
Eyes: Brown
Weapon Choice: ???

Elizabeth is the mother of the Hero. The typical motherly figure any boy absolutly loves. Ky Yen takes a liking to Liz and asks if she'd like to learn sorcery. Will she accept? Will the Hero allow his mother to come with them??? huh.gif

Real-Time Action Battles using a heavily modified Yggdrasil Core
Skill casting has been added to the battle system. If the skill has an instant damage area (not a ranged attack) there's a cast time needed.
AI Engine for battles: Proper skill usage (AI uses skills that are relevant to that time), AI will try to flee their target if they start casting (this has a cooldown though).
Battle Options have been added. Pressing the "B" button will bring up battle options like party auto uses items, flees casting enemies, and prioritizes healing. A couple more have been added but I'll let you check those out.

Post Office Letters that unlock party member quests.

CONCEPT SCREENS
Concept

This first screenshot is very early gameplay from the town of Halina (water town) I think it turned out nicely; however, some extra effects and lighting will be added to make it look like I want it to.


This is the concept art I am throwing around. Photoshop builds of different areas of the game. I'll post more as I get further.

New screenshots have been added to the mix. My water has gone through all kinds of renditions; from cloudy blue to just plain weird to what it is now. I think I'm keeping it smile.gif Tell me what you think about it. Also the latest dungeon screenshots are towards the bottom (lots of teal tints). The dungeon is called Thunder Tower and has some really good puzzles in it. One new battle screenshot has been uploaded as well.

Huh... I'm working on the voice acting BUT it's coming along slower than expected because hardly anyone was interested. I'm finishing up a few details here and there and will release a full Episode 1 game very soon (without voice acting sad.gif )

Episode 2 is in production and I've switched to parallax mapping (YAY!!) The visuals and things will look much nicer in E2.

I wanted to give you all and update: the battle system is stellar and I've basically rewritten the core of Yggdrasil with a complete AI and the ability to have party members in combat. It's been a long road and LOTS of programming but I'm pretty excited to release the game. This will feature the player moving his saved game file from one episode to the other at certain periods (to revisit areas). The same world map encompasses both episodes.

Oh, and there are 62 states in this game (states as in poison, burn, frozen blah blah). Many are good states though. That's just an LOL for ya.
