Abstract:Reji’s dreamworld becomes a nightmare when he wakes as “Sun” and is sent on a life or death mission to destroy the Shadowed Hearts, ancient artifacts of evil that have been causing monsters to appear in the world.
Genre: Dark Fantasy, RPG

Reji is a fairly ordinary guy: stressed out, over-worked, and lonely. His only escape from this existence are his dreams, where he can be anyone and do anything without worrying about the consequences.

His dreams though, are far from what they seem. When he wakes in a new world where he is called by the name “Sun” things begin to get strange. He is greeted by a woman named Nova that claims to be his sister, and a boy named Night that claims to be his brother. Apparently here he is a member of a mercenary group called the Astral Blades. They have been hired to search out and destroy the Shadowed Hearts, powerful artifacts capable of summoning terrifying monsters into the world.

Unfortunately, his dream is becoming uncomfortably real as he begins feeling pain and is unable to wake. Trapped and with no other choice, he beings a desperate fight for survival with no guarantee that he will ever be able to return home.

Meanwhile, the Shadowed Hearts have begun a sinister turning in the world, one that may have dire consequences should Sun ever be able to wake.



Setting

Wonderland is a lush world where the humans have lived in peace for centuries thanks to the Inari, Unlike the humans of Wonderland, Inari are able to channel forces of magic, causing the humans to view them as both spiritual leaders and the embodiment of deities. With their great power the Inari shape the world and keep the threat of Shadowed Hearts in check.

However as the Shadowed Hearts begin to grow more powerful, the residents seem either unaware or unconcerned. Some have even begun to make sport of the creatures, hunting them for fun. If the monsters pose too much of a bother the residents merely have to call in a special monster-hunting unit like the Astral Blades.

Wonderland consists of six isles floating in an endless sky. Each isle has a unique climate and aura, making them almost seem like different worlds

Mainland-
The majority of the inhabitants live on the largest isle, simply known as Mainland. It is a lush, green world of deep forests and rolling plains dotted by small settlements here and there. It is also home to Muse, capitol of Wonderland.

Muse is a bustling, thriving city of magic. Long considered the heart of wonderland, many residents come to the city seeking their fortune or adventure. Though all appears calm on the surface, a dark stirring has begun to encroach on the city and has recently caught the attention of the local Inari.

Lore-
The second largest isle in Wonderland, Lore is an ancient and mysterious place. It is filled with overgrown jungles, ancient ruins and long forgotten dungeons. Ancient treasures and powerful beasts are said to lurk deep within it, waiting for anyone brave enough to find them.

Devine-
Devine is one of the three smaller isles, but it has long been considered the most beautiful. This isle is home to the Golden Forest and Heart of Light. Some have even called Devine celestial in nature, and legend says that you can even walk upon the clouds that shield it from view.

Serasa-
Also one of the three smaller isles, Serasa is a land of stark contrast where rivers of lava flow through icy caverns and icebergs stir within vast plains of flame. An unforgiving climate that no inhabitant can survive in, Serasa was long ago abandoned by all inhabitants of Wonderland. For time unknown it has lain unclaimed and untamed.

Din-
Din is technically considered a land, though it is unlike any other in Wonderland as it is a living isle. A great winged whale that soars between the other isles, Din was once revered as a god in ages past by the inhabitants of the world. Even now he is looked upon by some with awe and others with fear.

Shadow-
Steeped in corruption and darkness, Shadow is the final of the three smaller isles. It floats lower than the rest, usually bathed in darkness by the isles above it. It is as harsh as Serasa and possibly less forgiving, a true land of death for any that step upon its surface. Many believe that the Shadowed Hearts originated in this place, though none are brave enough to venture there to find out.

More characters incoming along with possible story update, and more screenshots. I am still working on most of the mapping so screen shots may take a little while.

While your current screenshots don't reveal much about the game's world, and you are using the over-used Kaduki sprites, I'm really digging the game's potential storyline. It sounds fresh, exciting, and dark, what a good fantasy should be. For some reason I keep thinking of Kingdom Hearts with a dash of Heart of Darkness (from PS1).

Thanks, I'm hoping to get some important mapping completed soon and get some game play screenshots up. Right now I'm working on story development and visual polish (menu, title screen, and such).

I am going for a rather dark consequence oriented game. I want what you do in the game to matter later on, though I suppose good and evil aren't really factored into the equation here. Honestly though, there's a lot more to the story but I want to keep the big plot points a surprise for now until I get everything smoothed out.

I just added the remainder of the group characters as well as a bare-bones list of features. More will be added as soon as I get a little more polished off.

For me, I really like story ­full ­­­with mysteries, dark and fantasy. Your story is something that captured my attraction. It happens in a dream world. It made me remember my­ childhood when I al­­­ways ­want to stay in my dream and have adventure ­ith it.

The storyline is what I am trying to focus on most. It's going to be quite deep and have a few twists in it that hopefully keep people on their toes. The story is much more complex than it seems at first, and the characters should prove to have very interesting development. I'm putting a lot of effort into group dynamics and personalities; I want every character to stand out, not just Sun.

Gameplay is obviously top priority too, but I'm still fighting with what leveling/skill system to use and am working on balancing characters and monsters. Same holds true for the mapping. I'm currently using Mack's tile set, but I'm still working out the bugs since I'm pretty new with this system. As soon as I get some maps together I'll post a few pics of the game world though.

I really hated your logo until I saw it against the title screen, which I can understand why you choose it.

Your characters are pretty fitting, I just had a hard time placing Sun, because I could just see him being little less calm and collected as a physical appearance and more skittish, nervous, or even scatterbrained to the eyes. Everyone else is fine, but if you ever get the chance for customized appearances, I'd definitely go for it.

The story is pretty balanced, I'm sure there are a few portions that could use tweaking, but nothing drastically alarming.

Thank you for the feedback. I'm still trying to finalize a lot of things about the game, overall style included. Please let me know if you have any pointers on my logo, I think I'd like to polish it a little, but am lacking in creative reasoning for it at the moment.

As far as custom characters go, I would love to give them a try, but I am not so talented with spriting. My drawing maybe alright to passable with the current program I have, but I need to get a hold of one my friend recommended before I try anything serious. I'm really hoping too though so that I can give my game a more individual feel.

Actually, if you will look at the full name it is called "Dreamworld Wonderland", which is its full, currently running title. I highly suspect that there are many games that have the name "magic", "dragon", and "knight" in the title, but the rest of the name is different.

I have searched, maybe not hard enough, but did not find another game with the same title.

This does look very interesting. I like the premise and graphically it looks great, although I think a couple more examples of your maps would be preferable.

Also, could you give an example as to how the skill grid will work? Will everyone be able to learn everything, or is every character's unique?

but dreamworld is not a common name, not every game is called disgaea or Wither, for example.

it is not important, i was only informing you. the other project was scrapped so i dont see problems.

The skill grid system is a script by Omega7, and it is set up so that you have a separate skill tree for each player. They will not learn skills through normal means, simply by leveling up. Each skill must be purchased by pathing to it on the grid (each square costs experience).

I am going to have additional skills available at a special skill shop in certain areas of the game that can be purchased for "heart fragments", a sort of second currency within the game. I think these skills will be available to all members of the party, but I still have some tweaking to do with this.

I'm hoping to get some more mapping of different zones done soon and up, but I'm trying to work out all of the zones and how they tie into the story before I go mapping willy-nilly.

Guard System (By Synthesize:converted to VX):
A system designed so that an overworld sprite shows on the map denoting where a monster is. These sprites are capable of spotting you, initiating a chase, and initiate a battle. They can be avoided by staying out of their range and or sneaking behind them. I am currently working on a hiding system for stealth sections of the game.
There will be two types of enemies like this, the kind that can spot you only if you are directly in front of them, and a second that can sense you ( if you are anywhere within their detection range.) The second type are more dangerous as it is harder to avoid them. They will have different graphics so that the player will know what to watch out for.

New Logo (I believe more functional in relation to the story and game)
