She looks good. =] I think you excel in colouring because you like to do it. And it shows.

QUOTE The greats like Picasso do not have "rules of proportions" and he was brilliant Just popping in to say that anyone who legitimately thinks that Picasso and the old masters weren't, in fact, obsessed with proportion and form is demonstrably clueless about art history. Hope that helps. e: I feel I should elaborate and say that even if this was the case, Picasso's life was spent testing the boundaries of 2D expression. It's almost profane to evoke his name in defense of generic poorly-composed anime.

QUOTE (Ugaki @ Oct 20 2011, 05:52 PM) A lot of his art still does not have accurate proportions. It can't be disputed, unless you are blind and think that people are made that way that he draws them.... I guess I will push proportions of my manga style the way he "pushes" the boundaries of his art. If you don't have anything to really contribute to my art thread, please don't comment. Save art theories for another thread. Thank you. I'm assuming that when you refer to Picasso, you're thinking of the Cubist works for which he is most famous. What a lot of people don't seem to know is that Cubism, like a lot of other things Picasso did, was an experiment. He wanted to depict sculpture in 2D, from all the angles in which someone could view a 3D picture. While his works are anything but accurate representations of human figures, all the skewed proportions and odd perspectives had a purpose -- whether experimentation, evoking a feeling, or anything of that sort. Your art has no such excuse. You're drawing anime without any foundation in basic figurework or anatomy. Your proportions are wrong not out of artistic expression, but out of a simple lack of actual skill. This isn't the end of the world at all! Form and proportion are a big stumbling block for every budding artist. But to rest on these laurels and pretend that it's intentional and carries artistic merit is both disingenuous and short-sighted. To compare it to the work of the old masters is just insanely self-important. You aren't pushing boundaries. Your art is indistinguishable from the dA profiles of every other teenager who's picked up a HOW TO DRAW MANGA book without first learning how to draw a sphere on top of a rectangular prism. The difference is that most of these people identify this shortcoming and start to learn how to do better. If you think your lack of skill evokes Picasso, you're clearly making no such efforts. You have the potential to be fantastic at what you do, but only if you'll admit to yourself that, here and now, you aren't. The moment you sit back and decide "yes, my art is perfect" is the moment you stop improving.

Firstly, I will ignore all more comments on my style of character and the proportions of the Fragments style. It isn't a mistake and the style will not be changing. I can draw more proportional people if I want to but I draw this way on purpose for the game leader who wants them this way. Criticism is fine as long as it is not pertaining to my overall style for the game of Fragments. I will be doing more style of characters too, so it can please everyone, but Fragments is my main project and so you will be seeing most of that style than anything else. Sorry.
Secondly, I have been getting some waves of email and PMs and more on Deviant Art too about rates and commission for me. I do not take commissions right now. I do take requests to work on in spare time between my project drawings while I am writing. I have to first be interested in your project and the deadlines will have to be loose. But I will not take payment for my art at this time; The requirement is my interest only. For this your game project needs to have a good hook or plot, or some interesting characters available to draw. It needs a little direction but does not need to be fully developed. Action/adventure are my favorite genre, or anything that requires very cutesy drawings. Your project cannot be very demanding with quantity of pieces. A few character concepts and animated face set is fine. Full scale illustrations I will not do due to my lack of time and I won't want to hold up your projects. When my work on my main project is over, I may start with taking larger requests. (:
Lastly, here is a few more pieces.
 Completed line art test.
My progress on the gift for my girl.
A Fragments character work in progress.
My getting fed up with people telling me to make a "more natural proportions" drawing and telling me I don't know how to draw proportions and that I'm just making mistakes, so I drew a very quick gesture of my more proportional style, proving that it is not the case. I used no reference, I just tried to draw myself. It may be "off" but I have only been doing art for a short while, and this is arguably more "proportional" correctness than my usual style that I choose to draw in. Ah well yes, I can draw more proportional if I like to, so if your requests are more serious manga, I can do those. This quick sketch is proof.
I have a few requests I am already taking from some members on Deviant Art, email, and other forums. I have room for may be one more request, but you will be needing to be patient as I fulfill the others. I work on many pieces at one time, but I am only one person and art takes me some time to do even though I do work quickly.
Thank you for the compliments I have gotten so far, too. And I will continue to grow and I have grown considerably in my two weeks or less of doing artwork. I appreciate those who take notice of my newness and who support my growth. (:

Wow, it's only been a day or so since I've replied here and you've worked on quite a few pieces. ^^ The completed line-art is very good; I really like it. Are you planning on eventually colouring it, by any chance? =D The rest of the images are coming along quite nicely. And I still love your colouring quality. The realism test, for the eye/iris, is quite good. It's a left eye, and I can actually tell.
