Original console is better because it is legal, even if you own hard copy of the game, an emulator makes use of the console's bios, which is illegal even if you own said console.
Apart from legalities, I'd still prefer a console, because it's tangible, will allways run smoothly, and I like to keep the boxart and manual.

I have converters to use basically any controller I want on my PC (PS2/3, Xbox, GameCube, Dreamcast, and a couple of others). So I can play the game however I want. I also like that most emulators have save states because some games have long stages with no saves in between and I HATE it when I have to leave and go do something and I had to leave my game on while I was gone just so I could continue where I left off without having to start over.

Lol whut? Emulators are legal. Legal like a Michael Jackson concert. It's ROM's that are illegal, not the emulators themselves. Unless you have some evidence that they've changed the laws, in which case my laptop has not 3 trillion dollars worth of stolen goods, but 4 trillion worth
I prefer console. Playing on an emulator dosen't give the right atmosphere. The only reason I like emulator is because of quick save and the fast speed button, wich makes it easier to train in RPG games( Like FF6, when I defeated Ultros with Fire 3 the first time I meet him. Pretty overkill).

@klok emulators as programs themselves are legal, yes, but the bios they use are not. And 90% of emulators have the console's bios built in, or comes with one. Thus is why I say emulators are illegal. An emulator cant function without a game, much less without a bios.

For me it really depends on what system I'm using. I have an emulator for GBA on my PSP because my little brother is CONSTANTLY using my GBA. I had another one but the screen broke and I obtained the BIOS from that one legally. My philosophy is that as long as you have paid for the actual thing, it's okay. I bought Minutes To Midnight (Linkin Park) from Amazon and only one song burned to the disc, so I just downloaded the whole album for free instead. Same thing when Wal-Mart jipped me with the clean versions of a few songs on A Thousand Suns, so I just downloaded 'em. Of course there's always viruses you have to worry about though. I've bought RPG Maker XP about 4 times due to computer failure and I've decided that I'm NOT buying it again if I ever have to. Gamecube and higher though I'd rather play on the actual system, for the sake of smoothness.

Going to straight up and tell you the truth. Consoles, because I wish I could afford them more often. Consoles usual guarantee a safe and non-bug problems with texture or glitches. Even though we get some at rare cases, not as much as emulators. I played many PSone emulators before, and I do usual come across sound, and clipping textures in the way, even slow down if you don't know how to fix it.
With consoles, I really don't have to worry about that, just pop the disc/cartridge inside and play. So I do like more consoles because of that. But I'll still play wth emulators on the side. (ΘεΘ; )

I prefer consoles but I use emulators because you can't really buy a SNES or NES these days (or if I go to my local gameshop they have one in a glass case but it's too expensive)
I used to own a Nintendo 64 with Ocarina of Time Gold Cart and MK3, then that got lost when we were moving out of the house, now I just emulators to play my favourite game =) (except no need now since I have it in 3D)

A lot of emulators actually don't include the bios. You have to search for them yourself.
Personally, I prefer emulators since I'm mostly a PC user. I believe that roms are actually a good thing since it's a good way to archive old games that would probably be extinct or very hard to find. This way, the new generations of gamers can actually know what their ancestors were playing.
I prefer emulators to play NES, SNES and N64 games. My gaming activity has been declining lately, so I rather spend my money on something else than on a console and a few games that I will probably use/play for less than a week.
I also prefer emulators due to the fact you don't have to pay thousands of dollars (or whatever currency) to play a game which these days would be considered a rare item. However I think everyone here would much prefer to play on consoles for the same reasons you buy a playstation or a computer.. It's generally bug free and non glitchy as Yuu-Mon Musuedo had said.

Consoles. I never emulate. EVER. I find it low-class. I'd rather spend 300 on 1 game than just play it on the computer.
It's good for you that you are rich enough to spend 300 in a single game... But not everyone have spare cash to spent like this... And if i had i would spend it with better things, like helping the starving people from Africa ;D

SNES and NES expensive? They're like 30 on Ebay X_x There is no excuse to emulate. And no need.
Okay, so get an English version of SNES Shin Megami Tensei 1 and 2, or NES FF 2 and 3. There's a LOT of GREAT games that never officially saw the sun in ocident, and without emulating/hacked ROMs/ISOs you will have to play them without knowing anything. If you prefer to have a bad experience by playing a game that you don't undestand a thing, or don't play it at all... it's with you. But for me it's reason enough.
I prefer emulators because they're by far more pratic, in 10 mins of search i can have the game i want to play, also i can get some rarities... I don't have to spend money, wait days for the delivery, and also won't regret if the game isn't what you expected. I will just delete it and go to the next one =P Also it doesn't use physcal space, no CD/Cartridge aging and occupying space, accumulating dust. (Or making me lose my time to clean them) So i emulate without worry, and i can play some games that are totally innacessible for those who don't do it.
The only negative side of emulators is the legal part. But well... i can live with that =P

Original Consoles are better, hand down. First reason is because they obviously work better than emulators, second reason is because console controllers are easier to handle than keyboards. Third is because they deal better around multiplayer.
I do not despise emulators or roms, however. My DS randomly shut itself, so I had to play games in an emulator ever since. I just have to keep remind myself not to overuse a savestate and buy legal copies to support games that I really like.

There is joystick for computers. Also with the option to choose wich type you want (since there somes consoles with joystick with terrible layout, play Nintendo games with a Dual Shock like joystick is a total win : D)
