Status: In Development!
My newest game! An all original story, with twists.

Demo link
http://www.mediafire.com/?c88k41c7zmik1a9

Genre:

Action, dark fantasy, Drama

Setting

This game takes place in Feudal Japan. The "feudal" period of Japanese history, dominated by the powerful regional families (daimyō) and the military rule of warlords (shōgun), stretched from 1185 to 1868. You will be playing in the Edo period, a Period of war, politics and conflict between European and Asian Religion.

History

During the Edo period, also called the Tokugawa period, the administration of the country was shared by over two hundred daimyō in a federation governed by the Tokugawa shogunate. The Tokugawa clan, leader of the victorious eastern army in the Battle of Sekigahara, was the most powerful of them and for fifteen generations monopolized the title of Sei-i Taishōgun (often shortened to shōgun). With their headquarters at Edo (present-day Tōkyō), the Tokugawa commanded the allegiance of the other daimyō, who in turn ruled their domains with a rather high degree of autonomy.

The Tokugawa shogunate carried out a number of significant policies. They placed the samurai class above the commoners: the agriculturists, artisans, and merchants. They enacted sumptuary laws limiting hair style, dress, and accessories. They organized commoners into groups of five and held all responsible for the acts of each individual. To prevent daimyō from rebelling, the shōguns required them to maintain lavish residences in Edo and live at these residences on a rotating schedule; carry out expensive processions to and from their domains; contribute to the upkeep of shrines, temples, and roads; and seek permission before repairing their castles.

Back Story:

The "Christian problem" was, in effect, a problem of controlling both the Christian daimyo in Kyūshū and their trade with the Europeans. By 1612, the shogun's retainers and residents of Tokugawa lands had been ordered to forswear Christianity. More restrictions came in 1616 (the restriction of foreign trade to Nagasaki and Hirado, an island northwest of Kyūshū), 1622 (the execution of 120 missionaries and converts), 1624 (the expulsion of the Spanish), and 1629 (the execution of thousands of Christians). Finally, the Closed Country Edict of 1635 prohibited any Japanese from traveling outside Japan or, if someone left, from ever returning.

The christian problem reached its highlight under Ieyasu's successors Tokugawa Hidetada and Tokugawa Iemitsu, particularly after the predominantly Christian population of Kyūshū had risen in the Shimabara Rebellion against the shogunate in 1637. The uprising was crushed brutally; more than 40,000 Christians were killed. Authorities of persecution were set up, with the goal of a nationwide persecution and extermination of the Christians. Anyone who was suspected of being a Christian had to abandon Christianity publicly and dishonor Christian symbols, which were called 踏み絵 (fumie, "step-on picture'"), as well as register in the Buddhist register of faith of Buddhist temples and visit those regularly. Those who refused to abandon their Christian faith were executed, often through public crucifixion or incineration. smile.gif

Shimabara Rebellion:

It is an uprising in southwestern Japan in 1637‚€œ1638 during the Edo period. It largely involved peasants, most of them Catholic Christians. The shogun vs Samurai Christians and peasants converted to christianity.

It looks interesting, is it going to be ABS? Might I ask what kind of room that is? It seems a bit wide.

Hey buddy, Well this is a grid tactics game, and it also has a upgraded frontal view system.

I promise it wont disapoint.

That big room is a school[dojo], where Kojiro, a dragon slayer, will be imparting classes.

Interesting so it's a dojo of sorts? I'll keep an eye on this game...

I applaud the setting just on principle of it being something new, and the fact you actually seem to know things about the period.

However, your mapping leaves much to be desired. Everything is rather bare; the grass is all uniform with nothing on it in the dojo map, and the few cracks on the combat map aren't enough. I'd suggest looking at the screenshot thread or perhaps some mapping tutorials.

I agree, Well the outside of the dojo is not done, but I do need tutorials, can you provide some links.

UPDATE: I have been learning more on mapping, so the maps will look much better now.

You're mapping seems a bit to open to me. I cannot see the characters. The maps in some cases do not have a authentic Japanese feel to them.

Features
- Over 500 skills. Don't say this
- Over 100 pieces of armor and weapons.
- Deep story. Don't say this
- Move in all directions.
- Great graphics
- Tactics battle system. I did not get this feeling from your screen shots
- Advanced Front view battle system. Why? you have a tactical Battle System
- Game contains mini games Can you elaborate?
- A very fun game to play, with many hours of game play. Don't say this
- Game has cut scenes and epic battles. Don't say this
- Awesome music. Don't say this

Things where I say Don't say this means that you sound pretentious. like "My game is the best, the best and the best. I don't have to explain its just the best, the best and the best."

For example your story that you posted is more of a history text book (I am not famillar with Japanese history). I would make my own story based around a historical event. You have things like 500 skills - that might seem like a lot. are we going to learn all 500 skills? thats too many skills. I would probably use only 1 or two of the strongest skills. Its proven fact that most users will use fireaga over fire because one does more damage then the other.

Using words like epic, deep and awesome is pretentious and should be avoided at all costs.

Other then these minor issues. good luck.

Hey buddy, thanks for taking time to check this game. Well, caves for example cannot have a japanese feel into them, because humans do not inhabit it.

About the tactics system, well there is only one screenshot, you are going to have to wait for more later, my game is early in development.

Why do I have 2 battle systems? well I believe it adds cool strategy, you should play my bleach game.
http://bleachexile.weebly.com/bleach1.html

Also about the 500 skills, you are wrong and right, yes you will only use the stronger skills in a game, but mine is different, you will use skills that work effectively on certain enemies, kind of like in a pokemon game, where you will use strategy.

Couple of comments, tips, etc. Partially to elaborate on what Adrien said.

Instead of advertising mass amounts of this and amazing sounding thats, you should put a little depth into the features. Who composed your music? What style is it? What makes your 500+ skills unique(not just "certain ones only work on some enemies")? What makes your battles great?

As far as the graphics and mapping go, this one was probably my favorite screenshot:

A lot of the other ones, as mentioned before, seem bare, empty, or repetitive. You'll get better with mapping as you go, but you should also pay attention to the graphics you're using, and try to keep a consistent theme or style.

As for the battle system, I also don't understand why you have both a tactics and a front view system. Though, in my opinion, you could do some pretty cool things with that. Maybe large-scale battles with the Tactics system, and 1 vs 1 fights with the front view? Or perhaps something like Bahamut Lagoon's system?

The game has promise, but a good presentation is key to catching your audience's attention.I look forward to seeing where this goes.

Historical fact:

Did you know students at the dojo had to have sex with their teacher?

This game will have several surprises... tongue.gif

to the questions about being a great this and that... well you have to play the game!

Play my bleach game and you will see those great battles.

The game has Japanese music obviously.
