I am not very good at shading or coloring, so this is all I have. XD

This is Illenia Ashtear, a character I have owned for nearly 15 years. She is a scholar at a large University where people can learn magic and other things. ^__^

She's beautiful! You did very well on her outfit and shading/colouring looks great (despite not being extremely detailed).

oooo. Face is well done, outfit's pretty cool too.
but just some proportions-
usually i draw torsos 2-3 heads tall. and elbows are about belly button level (which i think looks better raised a bit.)

Hey you colored something! Finally! And its not half bad either. The colors are vibrant and the basic shadows look correct (imo). Could use a bit more detail like XMO stated but its a good start! Just keep continuing.
I have a question? What size canvas are you using to make your characters?

Well, mister Bacon ser! At first I draw in pencil, then I scan the art, then shrink by 20%. XD

The sizes very each time. o.o I usually just zoom in and color.

I'm actually really afraid to color detailing, because I have no idea what I'm doing. D=

Hint at coloring: no one really knows what they are doing when they first start. You just pick a lightsource and just go with it. For the stuff you are doing you dont need to get into any real detail; a simple anime color blocking will do! (if you didnt see it on .org ven posted a thing in the sketch thread about anime equued coloring).
Its just like anything else with art; the first time you do something new it usually sucks. But if you practice and make it a habit you will start dishin out all of these crazy things. There are wrong ways to color things and usually the people who are less bold are the ones with the most mistakes. You arent coloring incorrectly just remember to try something new even if it doesnt turn out. Because if you try it again and again, it eventually will.

I don't know how to use my tablet (and it's my ex's) and I don't have SAI. Isn't SAI expensive? XD

SAI's one of the easiest ways to learn to use a tablet. ;D

But for some stupid reason, it no longer works on my computer. It just shuts down on me and tells me the program has to be terminated. This is bullshit. I'm pissed. I can't get anything to work on my computer anymore.

I installed a game that USED to work on my computer, and now it doesn't.

Sai should be only about 65$, so it's not too expensive. o.o
Besides, it has a lot of benefits, and considering that photoshop is like 500$+, it's not that bad. It offers vectors, advanced brush modifications of basically anything (including quality, style, textures, density, etc...), and auto- smoothing.
GIMP isn't that bad though, either.

And maybe you can find a discount tablet online/ have some nearby friends split the cost w/ you and all share the tablet? Or if he doesn't use it much, ask if you can buy it off of him.


Also, wow, are most/ all of your apps breaking down? Maybe you should invest in getting a new computer or something. O.O GIMP used to not work for me either though.

I do not have a job, how am I supposed to have the money to save up for such nice things?

Even I do get a job, I'll be using my money to visit my family up north, whom I have not seen in nearly 2.5 years.

I either try to get GIMP to work, or I just work on pencil art for the rest of my life.

I only had a summer job for 2 months last year, and managed to save up $2000. o.o
If the tablet price is an issue btw, yea, see if you can find a cheap one online. You should be able to find one that's approx. 300$ or even 100$ - 200$. And then you can just try to split the cost with people who you know-- if you can get just 10 people for example, that'd only be 30$. :-$
If you go for an older model, like a graphite, you could prolly get away with paying 60$ for a used, small one. $449 was about how much I paid for a medium intuos 4, when it was pretty new too.


Also, nothing wrong with pencil art. :]]] but try reinstalling gimp. Or cleaning out your registry, or checking if it's shortcut is right, or downloading another/newer version. Does anything pop-up when you start gimp?

Actually, Monoprice tablets work pretty well and they only cost $30-50 (:
i use a monoprice for my digital art.

Well as of right now I don't have a job, so let's just drop me buying ANYTHING for art in awhile.

I would at least like to get GIMP working, though...

I think her breasts are way too big, but the pixel shading and colours are great (and the eyes and ears are cute, but the hair style is fantastic). ^^

You can say that because you aren't wearing them.

I'm just saying that it is unnaturally large when you consider that her actual body size is quite small.
(Of course guys wouldn't see that as a problem, lol.)
