It's been 5 years since I made the hard thought decision to completely cut out soda pop from my diet; and, even after all this time, I'm still amazed that I have managed to stick with it for this long -- especially since I used to guzzle this shit down like it was water back in the day.

Back in 2006, I used to weigh around 300 pounds; drink 6 cans of coke a day; eat a bag chips; and just shit...I don't wanna even think about right now (or I‘ll be sick to my stomach). One day, I decided that I wasn't going to be like this anymore, and completely cut out pop and chips from my diet. Ever since that day, I have managed to lose around 55 pounds, and managed to maintain a pretty decent size of 245 pounds (6'2, not too bad). I look back when I used to drink this shit and think, 'Man, I shouldn't have EVER touched that shit. Why was Coke-Cola so good?' Heh.

Flash forward to 2011, and soda seems to be just as popular as ever -- and cheaper too! I shake my head sometimes at people who still drink this shit, but then I remember that I, too, was once like them. But it's amazing to go by the pop isle now in the grocery store and just go like, 'Wow...'

My question to you guys is this: 'Do you guys still drink soda pop? Have you guys ever managed to cut something you used to eat / drink all the time from your diet for a long period of time? And, what do you drink now?

Since I don't drink pop anymore -- I'm a water / orange juice guy. happy.gif I don't touch those awful energy drinks (when I was a kid, I used to think they were beer. Ah...the joyful days of youth).

I've completely removed Soda from my life as well. It's been about 6 months for myself. In it's place I've been making Liptons sweetened tea and drinking green tea or various juices. While I am overweight (208lbs for 6') I'm mostly doing this for dental reasons though. Both sides of my family have a terrible history of teeth and gum problems. While this can be easily offset by regular visits to the dentist, I haven't been to one in well over a decade because of no insurance + no spare money.
So, in an effort to protect my teeth I have given up soda and try not to eat any kind of taffy or other similar kinds of candy.

I'm glad to hear that you're still sticking with this though, I can vouch for how frustrating it is to walk through the supermarket and see the prices for soda and then have to grumble while paying 4-6 times as much for the healthier alternative of your choice.

It's good that I'm not alone in my quest to get rid of sodas -- forever! And green tea...mmmmm...haven't had that in a long time.

Luckily one of the main advantages of living in sweet ol' Vancouver is that you can drink the water from the tap and there are no safety risks. So, I mostly just get my water from the tap. Heh.

I had lemonade earlier today, before that, not for a month or so. There's no need to "shake yourehead at people who still drink this shit", there's nothing wrong with drinking soda in moderation.

I know soda is bad for you, but I can't help but drink it. Though I do maintain a healthy weight for drinking so much soda (125lbs. for 5"4') but I am slightly worried about my kidneys ... If I could quit it, I would, but there is nothing I like to drink : / I absolutely hate water and I don't like tea or green tea that much. Instead of soda, I'll sometimes drink CapriSun juice but isn't that as unhealthy as soda? Milk also upsets my stomach, so I can't use that to replace my habit. If anyone could offer me a suggestion of what else to drink, that would help me out because I slightly want to quit myself ...

Coke is my main soda, I use to switch around sodas a lot but now I'm sticking with coke. I also enjoy Sundrop every now and then. However, I can't stand Dr Pepper because to me, it just tastes like medicine. Cheerwine is okay but it's not my favorite because it sometimes will taste like medicine if I drink it a lot.

I drink way to much soda. Mainly coca cola.
As soon as I opened up the topic and saw the cola can my eyes opened up cause i've just gone in kitchen and got myself one and not long got out of bed.

As said I know they are bad for you but I just cant help myself. There ideal for when you cant be bothered to make a cup of tea but really need a drink.
The only reason i mainly drink cola is because water is sickly most of the time so anything you need to dilute could be tasting wrong as well.

Well done on staying away for over 5 years though, doubt i have the will power for that!

I believe all things in moderation.
So some days I'll drink 2L of coke, and others I won't touch the stuff.
Some days I'll have nothing but nuts, fruit, eggs, and pasta. Some days I'll eat pure shit.

The sad truth is it makes no real difference to me. I can eat at mcDonalds and never gain a pound... Which I'm actually annoyed about more than anything.
Back on topic though, I'd never think of giving something up completely. It's like on South Park, you just need discipline. If you enjoy something, you shouldn't cut it out of your life completely (unless it is extremely unhealthy or addictive) you just have to not have too much. Savour it.

Because of my need for caffeine, I made the switch to Diet soda a long time ago. I prefer Diet Coke over the regular stuff; it seems to taste better. On the other hand, regular Pepsi tastes better than the Diet, but luckily they have Pepsi Max which isn't too bad and still 0 calories. Now if only they'll come up with MT Dew Max.

I been drinking soda its like my favorite thing to drink (Besides Tea)
and filtered water is good to me and also i drink chocolate milk.

I would NEVER have the power that you have to take caffeine of my list and stay away from it.

I drink very large amounts of soda, and its bad. Its not like I drink a ton of t every day, but when I do have it its in relatively large amounts. But I'm not overweight (150 for 6' , if anythng I'm a little underweight) so at least there's that. A couple of my friends had this random endeavor of giving it up. I didn't think about joining them for a second. Its just my preffered beveage, though its not an addiction or anything.

But for those who have gotten rid of it, bravo. Its ceertainly somethuing the body can do without

I gave up eating Mc Donalds 6 years ago. After I found out their fries don't mold (which any food should), I stopped eating it. I figured if nature had a hard time decomposing the fries, how hard is it for my stomach to digest it?

I thought that was all Mc Donald's food. Weren't they the ones that did a test with a Happy Meal and found that even the burger didn't spoil after so many days? And kill the junkfood as well. Twinkies also don't mold or spoil.

Soda, well... I'm not crazy for soda but it's the only thing I order at a fast food place to wash down my meal (pepsi, cola, or sprite).
Could I give it up? It's possible, but McDonald’s $1 drink days are on and I hate to let that pass.
Besides, I'm actually only 109lbs and about 5"5' so you get the idea that I don't care much...

@Sparrowsmith
2L coke? Never gain a pound from McDonalds..... You must be my twin blink.gif

---EDIT---

I'm in Calgary and all we get is snow and Chinooks...

You can actually do that here in the states too, but bottled water is apparently the next fad or something.

I actually drink more coffee than soda, that way I get my caffeine fix without the sugar (or the artificial sweetener which can be even worse).

I stopped drinking soda and eating junk food many years back when I was into boxing. ( I was 13 years old by that) When I left boxing I kept my habits. I still avoid drinking soda and eating junk food.

Fuck yeah xD water and orange juice ftw. That's the only thing I drink now. Sometimes I can't avoid eating on fast food restaurants because my friends at college eat fast food almost everyday, most of the time there are plenty of options and I choose Subway or something similar but sometimes I can't do anything else and I'm forced to eat junk food.

And I only suffer when it's pizza, I love pizza so much.

EDIT: I stopped eating Mc D's completely. I didn't specify that in my first response.
I try not to eat food that does not spoil. I was never an eater of twinkies ever since I had my first one when I was 9, that was almost 19 years ago. I did not like the cream in them. The only thing close to a twinkie I will eat, are the snoballs. i love marshmallow treats. I know snoballs mold, since it has happened to me, I kept it for too long by accident.

Actually I have just started to almost completely cut soda pop out completely. I still drink it but only every once in a while and only because I still like the taste. I don't drink soda because of some kind of addiction I drink it cause it's tasty. happy.gif For the most part I drink Crystal Light now mostly because it's cheap and still quite tasty!
