Well have you decided anything about your game yet?Like what's the setting?Is it going to be a medieval type setting, futuristic, modern day?
Tabius, Veran, Demar,Namor, Constance,Talia, Isiah, Yuri, Selena,Opheila (always been much better with girl names for some reason). These names mean liittle to nothing without knowing what they are going towards.
I can give you some pointers to come up with some of your own. 1.Go through people that you know , does anyone you know have a name that you've always considered cool?Steal it 2. If you decide on a setting or theme for your game before you go through making character's names become alot easier to come up with at least for me anyway. 3.Not to endorese copying or anything but a name in books you read or movies you've seen,Famous actors that you always found their names interesting.Use those names or better yet take that name and use it as a spring board for new names Angela, Lina, Joel, Lee hehehe quick example 4.Often thinking about the cloass of that character might help you come up with names example when I think of warriors I think of rough and tumble names like Rawl, Kole,Toby (ok maybe not toby), Kane, Or mages or scientist Wade, Simon,Demetrius,Horace Anyway I rambled on enough.I hope it might help.The bottom line is you will hardly be satisfied with the names others give you.The best thing to do is to take time out and decide what you want in your game and make the names up accordingly.People can give you advice but in the end the game must be your own.

Guys... what is this nonsense you're doing? You can't just give him 6 random names like that (yes, I know you're asking yourself WTF now haha)... there are many genres and styles of rpgs, many settings and so on. Too many things to consider if you want proper names to be used. Anyways, here's something that will help you ninjaswag:
Make sure you bookmark it. And if anything, google dude, everything is in google. And next time, include those details about what kind of game are you making. Don't be lazy.
Well how about Bengaiden for a strong and intellectual male character. It's a character I'm putting in my own game The Magnus Light but isn't part of the main characters in your party. Just mess around with names and its easy. It depends whether you are going for japanese style names or english or something original. A lot of my character names are original because I combine english names with some other random word that comes to mind to make the name sound fresh.
In my game Bengaiden Sigmund is his full name but I wouldn't mind you using just the first name.
Good luck making names for your project, it's not difficult just look for something that sounds about right for the character. Also try and combine basic names with something strange and you might surprise yourself...

Of course there is! Names are extremely important and are usually the first thing you see about a character, place, spell, etc. It has to sound right, make sense in the world's context and preferably have a deeper meaning as well. If a name doesn't suffice in any of those points, then I would consider it bad.

Yes. Like I said above, there are many things to consider. You can't name your main character bob dylan and then have the game be centered around feudal japan... that wouldn't make any sense right? You would want to name your main character yoshiro yamamoto or something that fits that scenery. That, of course, assuming you're creating a serious awesome game, if it's a parody game then these rules shouldn't matter.

To be honest, there's something that always bugged me with the concept of giving a meaningful name to characters. The main reason being that we're named at birth, or even before, so names fitting the personality or the role in the story aren't really realistic: how could the parents know before hand what will happen to the child?
My personal preference is to give names according to geographical locations. Basically, choosing a name depending of the character's birthplace so you can roughly guess where someone is from just by the last name. Of course you can have exceptions, but don't you think it's more realistic that way?

Hm, half true. Aside from personality and story -- two aspects which cannot be determined upon birth -- there are more realistic cases in which names have deeper meaning. For example, a peasant could plan to push his son to become rich, and thus gives the son a typical 'royal' name. Though not a lot of RPGs go down that truly realistic road. But if you do, there's always of course titles and nicknames, both given for a deeper meaning than 'insert x random name'.

Thank you! my point excatly, you cant always have great sounding serious names that just not real life! and what makes a game have to have a serious or fitting name anyways, games can be silly and fun, and a goofy name goes well with that i think.

Nope Still think they cant its not even about good or bad names, its just about the games. Just dont get hungover by a name, there are alot of other hard parts to making gamese serious and time demanding.
YES it is a bad name. You can have bad names for games. It doesn't take a genius to know this. Games generally aim at using unique names to make their game stand out against others. While I agree with what Kread said about geographical locations and the parents giving a child a name that means it wouldn't fit their personality I still believe naming a character reflects the characters background and culture. This is why strong names are generally given to characters who fit that role.
Of course giving a character a silly name would be good for a comical game but players may not take them seriously if they are in proper serious games. I mean imagine if Cloud's name from ff7 was called Kapopopopoopopop. People would think what the heck? Is this for real and probably not want to buy the game for the unique story but because it would be funny. Also look at it from the concept if you couldn't name characters in the final fantasy games.

The names don't always have to depend on the genre of game you are making. Sometimes names like Sora and Raiojn and stuff like that work for any game. The worst thing to do is to ask people for names. That would be unoriginal. Think up your own names. The best thing to do is to get out the old Google translate and type something in. Sometimes you will get a nice sounding name. For example, Hikari, which is Japanese, means light, which is English.

Those only work for characters of the same origin as the names. I couldn't imagine a rugged American character named Sora. As such, an American RPG would have a hard time fitting that in.

Name with some common sense, unless the purpose is to create a Gary Stu style game. Just be aware those games are more for private, self enjoyment. Posting it online is in poor taste and judgement.
Naming is something you get progressively better at as you do it. It can be highly useful to create pools of names for use, sorted by region and time-frames. This will prove even more useful when you name NPCs, which can help add depth to your worlds.
Just because you have a Fantasy setting also doesn't mean you need to get all J.R.R. Tolkien with names. Simple, familiar names can create a far better immersion.
It may sound unusual, but I tap into a character and then allow them to unravel their name to me. I've disliked some names, as I wouldn't name them that, but their names actually made sense. So I use them regardless, and I think it helps bring out their personality. They really take on a life of their own.
That's probably the best method, tap into your character and have them speak their name to you. It's a creative process though. I don't think everyone can do it, and certainly not whenever they want to.
