I've tried searching for this everywhere, and have yet to find an answer. I already know there is a way to go into the scripts and tone down the blur effect to the point of getting the battle to take place with the map you are on as the battleback, however, I have not yet heard if there is a way to actually get the background to go black by working with the scripts that currently come with the maker (in other words, without having to add new scripts).

It would seem to me to be something of interest, if for no other reason to eliminate the blur effect completely, but I personally think it would make the battles a bit more retro in style.

If not, I'm sure it's easy enough to do by adding a script and just indicating for every battle to pull the same background, but thought I'd ask anyways.

Thanks!

It's ugly. But here it is...

CODE
#==============================================================================
# ** Spriteset_Battle - Black Battleback
#------------------------------------------------------------------------------
#  This class brings together battle screen sprites. It's used within the
# Scene_Battle class.
#==============================================================================

class Spriteset_Battle
  #--------------------------------------------------------------------------
  # * Create Battleback Sprite
  #--------------------------------------------------------------------------
  def create_battleback
    bitmap = Bitmap.new(640, 480)
    black = Color.new(0,0,0,255)
    bitmap.fill_rect(0, 0, 640, 480, black)
  end
  #--------------------------------------------------------------------------
  # * Dispose of Battleback Bitmap
  #--------------------------------------------------------------------------
  def dispose_battleback_bitmap
    #@battleback_sprite.bitmap.dispose
  end
  #--------------------------------------------------------------------------
  # * Dispose of Battleback Sprite
  #--------------------------------------------------------------------------
  def dispose_battleback
    #@battleback_sprite.dispose
  end
  #--------------------------------------------------------------------------
  # * Update Battleback
  #--------------------------------------------------------------------------
  def update_battleback
    #@battleback_sprite.update
  end

end

Excellent Brewmeister! This is exactly what I was looking for. Who do I credit for this if used in game?

For anybody else that has wondered about this, here is a screenshot of what this would make battles look like.

I'm trying really hard to imagine where else you would use it..... ???

If you find a non-game use for this, credit me. Otherwise, don't bother, it took 2 minutes. smile.gif

I figured there were scripts out there, I just didn't know if I'd be able to tweak existing scripts verses having to add a new one (as in the script adjustment that is available to eliminate the blur and have your map as the background), at least for making a black battleback.

I'm not terribly script oriented, so have not had much luck yet with getting battlebacks to work, and I was bored with the blur, so thought I'd give the black battleback a try, and while it may not be what everybody likes, it definitely works for a more retro style.

But thanks again, though, all this information definitely helps.
