Nothing I can easily show, I'm still working on the intro. Been very busy lately as I'm working fulltime with 2 uni subjects on top of that and trying to maintain some semblance of a social life, so yeah.

Well he IS just stating an opinion (which is one whole reason Vanit posted it on the net, to get people's opinions who know the game, and to see if they like it.) Just because it isn't a page long report repeating how much he likes it, to 'smarten' it up, doesn't change that.

Except that he posted the exact same comment on 12 different posts. The exact same. In the world of forum stuff, that's known as megaspam.

I think the mods know what they're doing. :V

Also, now the last three posts including mine are spam. Thanks.

I just stumbled upon this today while playing FFVI and wondering to myself if someone had or was working on a 2D remake of FFVII. After seeing what you have posted (screen shots, video, etc...) I am incredibly impressed! I cannot wait to see more of this and I wish you the best of luck sir!

Honestly, when I saw the title of this topic, I was like "Oh no..... some noob is going to butcher the game for everyone..." BUT! You have proved me wrong! This looks fantastic! I can't believe how much work you've put into this and how awesome it looks!
If Square does take it out, it'd be really foolish. I've always promoted fan games because they make you want to play the real thing! Plus, Square has a LOT of money and they should probably share some of the glory with someone who works extremely hard to make a remake!
Anyhow, I can't wait until this is finished smile.gif Surprisingly, I think using rm2k3 was a better choice than using XP or VX. I don't quite know why, but the graphics just seem.... older and more nostalgic smile.gif
NICE JOB biggrin.gif

This is my first browsing in this board for like 6months after a long hiatus and anything with ff caught my attention. I always say to myself that everytime I see any "remakes" of ff games on rpgmaker will end up either unfinished or failure but after seeing the whole thread makes it a little more promising keep it up biggrin.gif.

Do you mean to ask when another demo is coming out? Your post is pretty unclear.

I have the PC version and the PSX version.

3 discs, which isn't much for the kind of storage these days but then again, that just means I can't keep it on a thumb-drive and play some FF7 on the road when I'm bored. Oh, and disc changing is quite a chore lol

Didn't look at the demo (I assume only the bare minimum SE and BGM for the demo is in the folder), and supposing the game was actually completed, how big does anyone think it would be compared to the original? (granted, comparing 2D sprites with 3D model and animation data probably isn't a fair comparison but to me that's not too important)

No matter how you look at it, it'll be significantly smaller.

O hai guys! I do intend to release some stuffs soon, never fear!

As for size estimation a full remake of the game would probably be in the ballpark of ~200mb, mainly due to 700+ sound effects there are in FF7.

Goody!! I haven't been on the forums in quite some time and came back at jsut the right time then.

200mb shouldnt be too much for anyone that has anything other than dial-up , which hopefully is most people. those 700 sound effect are part of the nostalgic essence, I'm glad you are willing to include them all.

IMO, no fangame is a failure unless it is made to purposely butcher the series. But this has incredible potential, I only hope that Square (or any developer) would never try to shutdown the development of any noncommercial fangame like this once and if it reaches the epic level in terms of progress, gameplay, etc.

I know there have been cases of fanmade movies being terminated, like that indie zelda movie. But good luck Vanit, take your time bro!

Was really impressed with the demo. I especially like the electric sign that read "WARNING INTRUDER". That was a nice touch. I'd love to know how you coded your item menu and even your equip and materia systems. I'm just curious about the concept. Though, I doubt you want to go over countless pages of repetitive code. Is there a way for me to open this up and look at it? The demo I downloaded is just the .exe file. Which by the way, is that some kind of patch or did I miss something along the way of rm2k'ing?

Sorry for all the questions, I use rm2k3 too and am really intrigued by how well you've coded everything. I've made attempts at coding battle systems and menus with some degree of success. I gave up on the battle system for lack of free time and sickness of repetitive coding. So, any chance to learn new styles of coding or concepts I'm all ears!

I'm glad you liked the demo, drenrin! I've actually intentionally sealed FF72DR with Molebox such that no one is able to see the code and resources. There are many reasons for this, but for educational purposes it would probably not be much good - the code is not well documented and the system uses over 250 common events across the battle, menu and text systems. I don't think anyone else but myself would be able to make much sense of it (I think that happens with most RM2K3 projects that use any degree of custom systems).

If you go ahead and make some threads regarding the things you'd liked to learn more about in the right sections of this forum I'd be happy to explain the concepts I used to you or anyone else who is interested. smile.gif

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll probably end up posting something of the sorts in the future. I'm always so busy I hope I can find time. I understand why you'd seal your game, and to be honest I'm wondering why I didn't think of that myself. I have notes all through out my game and still get lost and confused at times.
