I've been thinking about creating a japanese rpg, but what would be a good japanese name for an RMXP project? if I was going to create one.

Yeah, you can't just come up with an awesome Japanese name and use it for your project if it has nothing to do with anything.

I'd also not use a Japanese name if you can help it. Your game isn't truly Japanese in anyway. I did that once, but gave my game an English name in the end.

If you want help with coming up names, you should probably post as much information about your game as possible. If it's too early, then no one can help you.

Not really, no. The name of the game doesn't have to be about the story, does it? Take an example from other rpg's like mine, it's called The Sword of Heroes, but the story isn't all about the title, is it? Same with final fantasy.

EDIT: I'm not even creating one, I'm just thinking about it and I just got inspired by it.

Well, titles that hint the themes of a story would be a big plus. But if you just want a title that sound cool then just look up different Japanese words then mix and match the best ones. A translator might help:

Example? Nenshou Tamashii or sumthin. Translates to Burning Souls. .

Or maybe Rei Mugen sounds better? Which means Infinite Souls. I'm not sure which we use for soul though, rei or tamashii. Maybe because I don't have enough experience with the language. Maybe you'll only be able to make a really good Japanese RPG title if you actually learn the language .

Do you mean an RPG in Japanese or a JRPG? If you mean the latter, it doesn't have to have a Japanese name.

Yes, and I asked if he meant for a game in Japanese or a JRPG, and that if it's a JRPG, he doesn't need to give it a Japanese name. I'm not sure what wasn't clear in my post.

Yeah, that sounds good - maybe the story can be about having different souls of something, I'm getting something already.

I meant a JRPG and it doesn't have to be in japanese. The characters will have japanese names and it will have a japanese theme to it, but everything else will english ok?

let's not even go into the incredible fallacy that, to quote his vernacular, "japanese stuff" = anime.

plus, a name that doesn't reflect upon the nature of the game? I'm sorry but we can't all be squaresoft at day one. it might not have to be about the plot but it's got to reflect upon the game in SOME way, or else the name might as well be "project #32596430-6" for all I care.

well no, it's not pointless as an exercise. What IS pointless is that you're asking us to do this without a concept. I'm sure you have something you had in mind for this game. Sure, you haven't developed it yet, but there's gotta be a starter point.

No, I haven't really thought of anything yet and I'm getting something now actually.

Imagine if the game was called Infinite Souls - in japanese, it'll be called Rei Mugen - I can see a sub title at the end of the name (which sounds like a decent title) anyway - and the people will be born with these special type of souls and they'll be called Infinite Souls. There'll be this person who will be the villian of the game and he will steal these Infinite Souls from people. He won't be trying to destroy the world, he'll use these souls for something.

Not bad and I don't know if I prefer the english name or the japanese name. then again, it will be a JRPG after all. Let me know what u think ok?
