We all have different opinions, right? But theoretically, if a game belongs to your favorite genre or franchise, and everyone around you (critics and fans alike) say it's the best thing since sliced bread, don't you think you should, by all rights, enjoy it?

You see, lately I've been playing "Castlevania: Lords of Shadow" recently. It's pretty to look at and all, but my experience with it is that it's a glitchy, convoluted mess with unintuitive controls, tedious combat, and way too much just climbing instead of actual playing. I've had the game for about two or three weeks now and I'm only partway through Chapter 5; not because it's hard, but because I just find myself getting bored if I try to play it for any more than an hour at a time. I think the only reason I even keep playing is to see where the hell the story is going. As a Castlevania fan, this feels wrong. Hell, as a God of War fan, I see NO reason why I shouldn't like this seeing as most of basic mechanics are unabashedly lifted from it. But the whole thing just feels painfully lackluster to me. But I seem to be alone. Everyone I talk to, every review I see, every random internet name seems to almost unanimously everything this game does. What is everyone seeing that I'm not!?

I had the very same problem with last year's "Demon's Souls" which was just a snooze fest as far as I was concerned. To me, the game felt sloppy, slow, unrewarding and largely uninteresting... the complete opposite of what everyone else in the world seemed to think. I get it, it's hard. And I like hard games (I grew up on the NES [and I BEAT Battletoads]). But I felt like it just dragged on unnecessarily. I actually fell asleep playing it once! Then there's that "brilliantly innovative" online interaction which just felt like an unpolished "okay gimmick" at best. While a good idea on paper being able to see what other players are doing, it seemed like everyone else I see just kind of ran into the room and checked their menu for a minute. I just... I'm not impressed. But no, this was so highly respected by everyone. Where I normally believe Atlus doesn't get nearly the credit it deserves, the one time it GOT attention, it was from their worst title, in my opinion.

So, how about you guys. Do you have a game that you bloody HATE (even though you thought you were going to like it) that everyone else around you seems to love for whatever reason?

Counter Strike.

:3

I don't know what all the fuss was and still is about it. I still see people playing CS 1.6 in Network Cafes. To me it's horrible graphics, horrible gameplay, and the annoying ability to jump like jack rabbits. Other than that, is the Need for Speed games. I could just never get into them and keep continuously getting pissed at annoying races that unlock me cars that sometimes I never use. Not to mention the time it takes me to get good in a course. Race after race is unappealing to me.

It's an action platformer with RPG elements and slight twists here and there. The project is based on 'The Seventh Tower' series by Garth Nix, but I assure you, I'm changing a lot of things!

Wind Waker.

I didn't HATE it, I could never. I enjoy all Zelda games, but the boring ocean traveling, predictable story, and overall tone only left me wanting to play Ocarina of Time instead.

Future Tactics for PS2.

Biggest waste of 20 bucks ever. I thought the game was gonna be entertaining, but it was a serous let down.

Devil May Cry series...

I find those games just brainless and boring. Moreover I've never seen a person above 15 playing one...

The first 3D game I've ever played was Super Mario 64 for Nintendo 64...The star collecting system was genius!
You can't possibly find this game boring... confused.gif

Baldur's Gate.

Well probably not hate (since hate is one of those reallyl strong words). But I was really disappointed with the game. I had heard all the hype. I had even bought into it. Then I played the game and.,,

Meh.

Most of it was because of how shit Dungeons and Dragons is (was). It was too easy to die early on. There wasn't any interesting roleplaying going on (I had just played Fallout 2, I bought Baldur's Gate, Fallout 2 and Planescape Torment in a kind of box set), the dialogue choices went nowhere. I just didn't know what the fuss was all about.

I eventually played through the game (so I can't have hated it that much I suppose), but it was really quite a bore.

Ever tried Baldur's Gate 2?

Oh man. I have a LOT here. I'll list two of the main ones, though. First off, Planescape Torment and just in general, most of the Black Isle stuffs. Every single PC RPGer ever absolutely creams over those, but I just can't get into them. Too...many...words. And that's especially strange because I love 90% of the Final Fantasies, Dragon Warriors, etc., so I don't get it. Maybe it's the pacing...I don't know. The other one, though, is truly surprising to the point I constantly wonder if there's something wrong with me: the entire Halo series.

Here's the thing...I love oldschool FPSs. Duke Nukem 3D? Yes. The entire Doom series? Yup. Quake 1 and 2? You bet. Shadow Warrior, Blood, the Half-Life series, both Condemneds, both F.E.A.R.s, both No One Lives Forevers, etc.? It's pretty much a sure bet. But the Halo games? Meh. And I really can't put my finger on exactly what it is I don't like either. Even stranger is I like games like the Battlefield series, Modern Warfare 2, Left 4 Dead, and so on, so...yeah, I really don't know.

I'm not a big fan of Halo myself, I bought the first one for PC and and didn't really enjoy it too much. Was alright, but definatly not a game I want to keep playing. Yet I love L4D and COD XD

21 and a DMC fan. lol

For me, it'd have to be FFVII. Not that I hated it. I had fun while playing it(not as much fun as Crisis Core or Dirge of Cerberus though. Blasphemy, I know). To me, it's not the best game ever. I don't hate the game itself, I hate the overzealous fans. Some of them are just ridiculous. One of my best friends in high school almost stopped being my friend cause I didn't feel the same way about it as he did. And two of my other friends were against me in the same "argument", if it can even be called that.
It was basically: Friend 1: "Satou, FFVII is the best game ever."
Me: "Okay cool. I don't think it is. I have for fun with other games. It's not the best game ever. It's actually way overhyped."
Friend 2: "Satou, 97% of the people on the Earth think it's the best game ever! 97% of the Earth can't be wrong!"
I forget the rest of the conversation but those were some things that were really said and it was one of the stupidest things I've ever heard in my life.

I am

The Devil

Materiality. Material Force. Material temptation; sometimes obsession

The Devil is often a great card for business success; hard work and ambition.Perhaps the most misunderstood of all the major arcana, the Devil is not really "Satan" at all, but Pan the half-goat nature god and/or Dionysius. These are gods of pleasure and abandon, of wild behavior and unbridled desires. This is a card about ambitions; it is also synonymous with temptation and addiction. On the flip side, however, the card can be a warning to someone who is too restrained, someone who never allows themselves to get passionate or messy or wild - or ambitious. This, too, is a form of enslavement. As a person, the Devil can stand for a man of money or erotic power, aggressive, controlling, or just persuasive. This is not to say a bad man, but certainly a powerful man who is hard to resist. The important thing is to remember that any chain is freely worn. In most cases, you are enslaved only because you allow it.

Bioshock

I just don't like it, I bought it on a spur of the moment type thing, apparently it's a brilliant game.
I, however, was pretty disappointed.
I just haven't enjoyed it at all. I've found it so uninteresting, the guy constantly talking to you gets really annoying, I keep running out of ammo and health packs, its just ... blargh.

Fallout 3

I don't hate it, but I think I regret buying it.
For similar reasons actually.
I don't find the storyline that interesting, I'm constantly running out of ammo, its too open world for me to really concentrate on doing a quest.
The thing I hate the most about this game however.
Almost everyone has the same voice actor and it got old quick.

I didn't like the Bioshock demo...so didn't get it, so my opinion can't really be given XD
Fallout 3, I agree on the open world, never really ran out of ammo though, the storyline was meh compared to other Bethesda Games and the main thing I hated was the no open ending >_<
